  1. PM urges all Thais to make Thailand worth visiting... say's the man who instigated a coup, elected himself as PM and gave his military cronies plum jobs in his New World Order, kept the country in military lockdown for 10 months with martial law and repressed freedom of speech, replaced martial law with an even more draconian law, promised elections that didn't happen, deterred tourists with his ridiculous martial law and press statements, paid police to cover up a double murder and promised to get to the root of the country's 'problems' which in reality, is people like him staging coups when they can't win an election. Shall we list his successes? Cleaned up beaches and forbade people to take their own skin cancer protection in the form of parasols, something about motorbike taxis having to wear a certain colour vest, made taxis in Phuket use a central phone booking system where people have to call a number and order one and at the same time made taxi stands - no wait, that one never happened... But there must be more, right?

  2. I cannot help comparing this line from the op -

"He asked for cooperation from the media to stop running comments from people who always complaining of injustices or being treated unjustly despite that they were the group of people who always rejected to enter legal process, and always denied doing wrong even though evidence was apparent."

To this, from the Committee to Protect Journalists website, June 15, 2006 -

"The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns Thailand’s caretaker prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s continuing use of criminal defamation charges to silence critical media outlets. The most recent charges, filed on Wednesday, targeted three Thai-language dailies, Matichon, Khao Sod and Daily News."

Seems like the current PM is not the only one who has had "issues" with the media. whistling.gif

Like it or not there is no real simplicity in all this.Elsewhere in this thread I pointed out it was Thaksin that made universal healthcare irreversible in Thailand.(Don't bother telling me he didn't originate the idea - I know that).

He was also a rotten example for democracy - authoritarian, meglomaniac and opponent of the free press.Nevertheless he opened Thailand up to democracy and undermined the vested interests of the old elites.(Not from noble motives - I know that)

Prayuth is even worse than Thaksin in terms of intimidating the press. But at the same time he has brought a kind of peace to the country - which most appreciate even if with some reservations about methods.

And I would not be honest if I suggested he does not have broad middle class support.Yet it is an illegitimate, ludicrous and incompetent setup.

Meanwhile the essential difficulties facing the country have been kicked into touch.Nothing has been solved.

Unless there is understanding of nuance and complexity there is no understanding. There are no storybook villains or heroes.

Good post jayboy, and surprisingly I agree with you for a change.

All we need is an elected government with the political wisdom of Thaksin, the peacekeeping capabilities of Prayuth, and a kind, open and honest attitude towards the population and Thailand will be better off for it.

(I believe we need a few more things to happen but I won't overstep the mark right now and list them for fear of starting an argument) biggrin.png

How about that! For once I find myself in agreement with you Mike! Well said.

  3. Can you image if this happen to a Aussie in Israel The Australian Government the UN and most of the world will go crazy

    But Saudi Arabia nothing

    Wake up soon

But I doubt that they will

That's a great and valid point! It's the same with ISIS, they behead hundreds upon hundreds of Palestinians in camp Yarmouk and not one person protesting in London etc. Un say they're having a meeting about it...

  4. More English speaking cops infers there are already some but.... I have a good friend who is chief of the uniform police on Samui and he can't speak a single word of English, my next door neighbour was chief of some sort in the marine police and he couldn't speak a word either. Doesn't mean they're bad or anything, it just means they don't speak English. Shame because they're both great guys and IF they could speak the English lingo they would both probably getting great advances in the job

  5. The red shirts don't think they can win the next election but think they can bomb their way back into power. Don,t think that will work try another plan.

    Well done Sir!!

Within half an hour of the incident taking place you have already decided the motive and placed the blame.

    Almost faster than the RTP.

As for the elections, why do you think they are put on hold?

Maybe, just maybe because the powers are fully aware of, that free elections will see another red government.

Now we are just waiting for the police to reveal that they have found red shirt memorabilia and ID cards on the crime scene. And one of the ID card names had a FB account with the username B OMB.

Narrow minded people like you are more dangerous than any bombs..............

Go on then expand my mind who else has been planting bombs in Bangkok in the last few years? If evidence is found that it was not the Red shirts I will be surprised, wont you?

It might be red shirts. It might be Yellow shirts or black shirts or a flase flag job by the junta, it might be Iranians again, it might be southern insurgents, it might be gang related. Nobosy has any idea whatsoever at this moment.

  6. SUMMERVILLE, South Carolina (AP) — The death of a black man shot in the back while fleeing a white police officer was the act of a racist cop, a minister told hundreds of mourners who gathered Saturday for the funeral of Walter Scott. Well he's been arrested for murder so they should shut up really. It's a fact that more whites are shot by police than blacks yet 80% of crime is committed by blacks apparently so I don't get the racist angle. I read somewhere police shoot 5 whites to 1 black so the odds are pretty good for the blacks, they just make more of a fuss about it and call the racism card and then the racism goes the other way when you get ministers like this inciting racism and violence. Why can it not be "Bloke gets shot in back by police and arrested for murder"?

  7. Considering that they live in an environment that embraces a whole different set of cultural and historic narratives, that see the Thai state and society as intruders in their former homeland, it would be interesting to see the reaction to such activities and projects - and if they have a positive impact on their future outlook.

The separatists are a fairly modern phenomena and what these children are exposed to daily is propaganda as there is no one alive in the south who wasn't born in Thailand. 'former homeland' is pure bullshit. There are millions of people around the world who live in countries now that, at one time, were part of other countries or were different countries altogether. The list is endless and borders have changed all over the world over the last 100 years. More that half the countries in the UN have borders that are different than they were 100 years ago. Using 'former homeland' of more than 100 years ago is a poor excuse for the murder of teachers, rubber tappers and innocent citizens through acts of terrorism. The root cause, IMO, is the rise in Islamic fundamentalism and accompanying desire for a 'Caliphate' and doing it under the guise of reclaiming their 'traditional' homeland even though no one alive remember that 'tradition' because it was more than a 100 years ago. I point the finger of blame at Malaysia. 'Pa' Prem couldn't say that because it is too controversial for someone as high-ranked as him.

List of sovereign states by date of formation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states_by_date_of_formation

And this list doesn't include countries whose borders have been changed.

Bit like Gaza and their ridonklious claims

  8. He means he wants the media to tell the "sanitized" version of events according to him. Never mind what the actual truth is.

Oh please tell me, JV, what is the actual truth?

That the reds and the blacks were shooting at the army?

That the reds were burning everything on their path?

That the reds had BKK ransomed for weeks?

I also don't agree with the army shooting back, but that had to stop somehow.

Now, as the PM wisely said, let the courts find out the truth and deliver justice to the wrongdoers.

But don't try to hide behind your little finger.....it doesn't work.

Do you mean this ransom of BKK and international flights? http://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/nov/26/peoples-alliance-for-democracy
