Top end of Horex V6 lump .. This differs from the VW in having 3 valves a cyl whilst VeeDub has 4 .. The H uses 3 camshafts , one to open the single exhaust valve ( nearest in pic ) and the 2 inlets get a cam' each because if their alignment to the bore ..

Piston from a narrow angle V6 .. The slope correspond's to the angle of the Vee in this case 15 degree's so that the combustion chamber remains a uniform even space as the piston starts compressing the charge ..

A V6 with 3 valves / cylinder would have 18 valves. I count 12 in your pic. Does  it not have the central cam only operating the ( 6 ) ? inlet valves. The 6 exhaust valves / ports being on the outside of each bank of cylinders.

    2018 CB150R EXMOITION 1.3lt per drain and change. 6 drain and changes = 7.8lt... I've been charged for 9lts...

If you dont ask for the remainder back , they will keep it , as their tip. Next time you use this Honda garage , if there is a next time , try to see if they are even putting the expensive fully synthetic oil in your bike , at 400 Baht / L.   Or continue to buy it yourself , at just 120 Baht / L.  You need to watch like a hawk.

    I forgot to mention....

    # tyres front and rear were Dunlop D605's, not crappy IRC's or equivelants,

    # the exhaust system, tip to tip is full stainless steel.

With all the stuff on it compared to the CRF it compares not only favourably but actually cheaper!

The ONLY advantage a CRF seems to have, is the huge bling/farkles aftermarket out there for it.

Or perhaps that market is so much larger because the KLX does'nt need most of it stock.....

Im running IRC,s at the moment - when in Rome. IRC,s , Quick , VEE and Mitas are all good local tires. Michelin AC 10,s are my road legal favourite. 50/50 dual sport tires are a compromise anyway. To bring a CRF up to KLX standard you would need to replace a lot more than the exhaust , wheels , tires and upgrade the cooling system - that gets so hot , it can melt the plastic fan , LOL. People can spend up to 50 K improving the Honda suspension. There are many after-market component up-grades for the KLX. Its just that they arent "needed" as much as you begin with a much better bike. Hardly anything to upgrade on a KTM  !!!.

    Okey Dokey.

Prolly just wants a good thrashing!

    A right good seeing to.

Now, you know i'm about 2 odd hours from you, for The Love of God, ride the thing here (not load it into the back of your pick up), and i'll have a look at it.

I just can't stand it anymore...

TG , you do know that this bike is one of them there "new fangled" fuel injected , liquid cooled things , dont you.  555. It needs trucking over to you , if he really wants it fixed. He wont be riding it back the same day - checking valves on a cold engine , etc. You know what else to check , cam timing etc , so go for it. You are the only mechanic , apart from one in Chiang Mai , that i would allow to touch my machines.

How do you know that they are not all like that?

Allan says his Lifan pulled from less revs , and was smoother. And was 3 times cheaper. As average as the Honda is , it should be better than this , as others will confirm. I believe this bike has a fault , rather than Allan is expecting too much. He has ridden other bikes before.

  6. Yes , the Kawasaki KLX is well worth a few extra quid ( i think its just 20K more ) . The Honda runs hot with just one rad , and "real hot" off road , if you risk the cheap wheels / suspension and poor quality leaky fork seals. I looked into fitting a second rad / fan , but with all the other poor cost saving measures i noticed on the bike , i didnt risk a purchase.

  7. FPS = for petes sake. Allan bought the wrong bike. Kawasaki has a quality , tried and tested / trusted design , adjustable suspension , light weight and far more capable than the Honda. Having said that , the crf isnt too bad. I still believe there is a specific fault with Allans  bike.

  8. The engines in the CRF and CBR are very similar. They should feel the same. More vibration from the CRF dual-sport tires and softer suspension are the main riding differences. OP has experience of many different bike styles. Honda is 250cc , 4 valve liquid cooled , fuel injected DOHC. OP says it requires more revs / clutch slip to pull away , and is rough / vibrates up to 5,000 RPM. This is compared to a 200cc , air cooled 2 valve carb overhead valve Lifan. Honda quality might be below par nowadays , but to say the Lifan is better in some ways !!!. I still think there is a problem with this specific bike / engine. Valve clearances , valve timing or a spun bearing. Needs checking by a competent mechanic.

  9. As the camchain tensioner is one of Honda,s weak links - along with their voltage regulator / rectifiers , i would ask Nung if he recommends an adjustable after-marked camchain tensioner.  From Lamphun , take the 1015 to the 108 / Hang Dong road , then head North to Nungs. His shop will be on your left - West side of the road - and has spirit houses for sale at the front. Look out for the orange and black sign.

  10. AH , sorry. I should have clarified gears. Camshaft and crankshaft gears. If the chain tensioner / chain is bad   ( again ? ) it could have damaged these gears.  The gearbox gears dont seem to be causing much problems , as you said , but the clutch may be noisy too. You will need to leave the bike with him for a few days - awkward as he is out of town , so a lift may be required , or a bus ride. Confirm he will use OEM genuine Honda parts.

    Honda big bike shop?

He wants it fixed , not fuXXXd. Give the clowns at "bigwig" a swerve.  Try Nung. He is a good trials bike rider , who works on road and off-road bikes. He is based on the 108 HangDong road , almost opposite North Chiang Mai University. Sounds like the common Honda problem of cam chain and tensioner ( renew them together ) and maybe gears. Bike will need to be left with him to do the valve clearances correctly. His Line number is 081 724 7172. He is on google / facebook.

  12. A Dream / Cub is about 45,000 Baht.   If , after 20/25 years of looking after it , i was only offered 10K , i wouldn,t consider that a great price , as  i have seen many other 1 owner bikes from other company,s this age been offered for more than just 25% of their  price. It could be said it has become a classic and should be worth more than that. That Italjet / Sym 125 is a fantastic Italian designed looking scoot . There was one for sale in the Benelli / Keeway / Stallion shop next to Big C on Highway 11 Chiang Mai.

The GFH w/ABS is single disk up front and drum on the rear. ABS is only on the front. Prices do very between dealers. I just bought one before Christmas. And there’s a difference of 3000 baht. Also, some dealers offered a three-year warranty where others offered a five year warranty. I really thought that was set my Yamaha but the brochure says 5year/50,000 km. My dealer is the ABMotorbike here in BuriRam they also included two Yamaha helmets, first oil change, insurance, and I added the three year theft. I also added the windshield, my out the door price 64,800. Oh, it also came with the Welcome Package. A bag, jacket, T-shirt and keychain.IMG_3512.jpg
