  1. This is also going to have havoc on the tourist industry and the foreigners who have families here... It almost seem like government officials and ministers have some alternative motive in seeing the Baht getting stronger... Very Crazy... Could this be a new version of corruption?

I'm no economist so welcome advice on this subject. All I know is that my pensions arriving from overseas have dropped by between B14,000 - 16,000 in the last 10 years. Iis there a chance that some of the powers that be are so proud of the baht's strength that they ignore their own exporters. I would also suggest that those at the top of the shop don't have to worry about money and that which they declare is, well, only the tip of a cash iceberg

  2. Note that the gambling equipment is not destroyed on site (after collecting forensic evidence) but carefully dismantled and taken away by a private company.

It should not be destroyed at scene as it may be needed in any subsequent court case then destroyed by court order but I know what you mean - needed elsewhere ! Once again we read " transferred ", " inactive posts " and the like but never suspended pending disciplinary proceedings. I suppose everybody has too much on everybody else and nobody comes too hard as one day they might want a similar consideration when they are caught with their fingers in the tills

  3. A brief inquiry by the DSI was abandoned after only one day of work, and no person was found guilty.

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil ( at least not against your political paymasters); the path to success in the DSI.

Investigation Thai style, stick your head in the sand so you can't see anything and if you can't see it nothing could have happened

  4. This is called news? I have read the same useless crap for years but nothing happens, nothing changes.

I have been involved in teaching here at various levels including university and to say the system is a failure makes it sound reasonably efficient. They can plan all they want but it still won't work due to endemic corruption where students / parents pay to turn an F grade into a pass or to have a pass grade improved. Look at university finals where diplomas are issued a year later to allow wiggle room as it's always a member of the royal family who presides so all the horse trading has to be out the way.

  5. That was a close call for Chalerm, he nearly had to go to the south.

An excuse came along just in time.

But he will go some time.

Remember PM " pig's nose " had to order him to go and finally had to sack him. It's reported he was " ordered " by Yingluck to attend cabinet and not the meeting then having cancelled a trip to the south fobbed the press off on Tue 19th telling them he couldn't talk as he was in a hurry to get to work. Chalerm couldn't talk, pleeaase !

Chalerm avoiding the media now there's a first, usually he's running after them so he can run off at the mouth

  6. Great can we have a yellow, pink, green, and violet alert later?? I like all the colours, means nothing as usual . and nothing will change.

This is an annual situation and doesn't help the area's appeal to tourists. As already said nothing will change but the annual assurances will be given, the annual exercise of failing to stop it or locate those responsible will continue. See you in 2014

  7. He said there were no regulations to force the Cabinet members to heed the request, but said they should realise the roles of all parties in the democratic system of checks-and-balances.

    .

    What a staggeringly amazing concept.

Will Pheu Thai Party's Cabinet Minsters pay heed to Pheu Thai Party's Deputy House Speaker?

    .

and they are all probably too busy Skyping to Dubai

  8. What all these 'keen observers of Thai politics' need to do is to spend a few seasons up in Isaan with their faces to the mud and their backs to the sky.

Yes faces to the mud and backs to the sky sustained by the thoughts of Chairman Thaksin. I live in Isan and non-red shirt folks are as scare as rocking horse droppings, those that don't agree tend to keep their thoughts to themselves

  9. A former British PM spoke of the " winds of change blowing through the corridors of power " but to change Thailand it will take a couple of super typhoons.

No.Harold Macmilan spoke of a wind of change blowing through a continent (Africa): there was no reference to "corridors of power".

You are quite correct and I happily stand corrected but isn't the overall thrust the same for here ? It will take something special to change this place

  10. So the terrorists lost the election because the people did not want to vote for them, this is hardly news.

All Thai people should be afraid of these parasites.

Unfortunately up here in Isan both Udon Thani and Khon Kaen want to be regarded as the " reddest " of provinces with totally red villages no go areas for other politicians. When Thaksin was overthrown one of my neighbours had a near fit and ran around the soi in complete confusion. Udon Thani's provincial hall was firebombed by reds led by two police sub-lieutenants and on it goes. Reconciliation is a great ideal but not with ingrained attitudes like this and they don't see how Thaksin uses, and abuses, them

  11. .

No small wonder Jatuporn is eager to reach an out of court settlement.

With his earlier prison sentence suspended because of being a first conviction and facing this case in which he blatantly lied and libeled and facing another conviction, he's eager to avoid the high probability of prison.

Still, being Jatuporn, he's hesitant to admitting to it completely.

One thing is for sure. Nobody is going to accuse Jutaporn of having any sound reasoning or judgement.

Seems to me Thai politicians spend a lot of their time in lawsuits against each other. It would be good for the country if they were so attentive to official duties
