I'd suggest that if it wasn't because of the current situation we'd be assured that this unit, like all others, is at peak readiness at all times and available at a moment's notice etc etc.

It's a disgrace the deputy national police chief admits to a ' lack of preparedness ' but it's probably not an excuse just a statement of fact as why should they prepare for something they'll never be called on to carry out ?

Now wouldn't that open quite a can of worms.

Public officials shouldn't be allowed to have other sources of income except with prior approval which should not be given lightly or simply on ' the nod '.

However having said this I'm sure nothing will change because it would affect too many important people and especially those who can make the decision to stop this sort of thing.
