I live here for 40 years but started driving motorcycles when I got living upcountry.

Never had an accident and neither had my son or other family members, not in BKK or upcountry.

Never saw a kid under the wheels of a truck, pathetic reply of you designed for bleeding hearts.

Your and others bashing is seen as meddling in Thailands affairs.

You are allowed to stay here and thats all there is to it.

Thailands affairs are Thailands affairs, not yours.

You've certainly settled into the Thai way of things with Me, Me Me so it's ok for you and yours to do whatever they like as long as they get away with it.

Maybe you and your family have never had an accident but have you ever caused any ?

Thailand:  Hub of broken CCTV cameras.

Amazing isn't it, CCTV is installed for safety, security etc and just how many times when footage is needed the system is ' unfortunately ' not working  ?

Of course there's always the previous Bkk system where ' cameras ' are fakes and only there for effect.

The other thing to consider is it's a different type of tourist coming from China.  Yes, they don't spend as much.  Of course.

But I'm talking about the fact that if Thailand farts wrong and China doesn't like it, well buddy, tourism drops very fast.

You insult the UK or the US, sure, you might see a minor 10% dip for a month or two but then they forget about it and they come back.

If Thailand plays hardball on a rail project or isn't as ponying up enough money for a dam, well, maybe the Chinese government lets some travel agents know that Thailand isn't a nice place.  Oh, and best not take a side China doesn't approve of on issues concerning Taiwan or the South China Sea.  Nope.  That simply isn't acceptable.

And the more and more Thailand relies on tourism to hold up the economy and the more and more China is the main source of that tourism, well, Thailand's going to be walking a very thin line.

Macau's tourism has suffered when the Mainland bans people from going to gamble and not so long back the Chief Executive of Hong Kong warned that it was necessary for citizens to be nice to mainlanders otherwise Beijing would restrict visitor numbers.

    China doesn't mess around.

IMHO the National Buddhism Office (which has official status) needs to urgently step up and take some action.

Surely they have a serious responsibility to take action to protect the sanctity of Buddhism where a monk, especially a senior monk, is seriously accused of illegal activities, including hundreds of millions of Baht.

If they refuse or drag their feet I believe the government should intervene in this office.

As a connected point, why hasn't this office already taken action to investigate this 'monk' years ago, and especially since he already has a long-term negative record for previous activities?

Is the National Buddhism Office frightened of this monk or his connections?

Plus stick your head in the sand and believe / claim none of your brothers would do such a thing !

"The pub owner in Chiang Mai has already shuttered his business, but the big problem of alcohol being sold openly close to schools and universities – and under the eye of the police – is getting worse."

The big problem has nothing to do with where alcohol is being sold.

The big problem is that because those behind the attack felt themselves to be beyond the reach of the law they were quite happy to see a pack of guards assault someone they deemed less important than themselves.

Actually, no, I'm wrong. The big problem is that they are probably usually correct in making this assumption.

The only reason they may be in trouble this time is the victim also has connections.

Yes indeed, much of the article is nonsense but this is a very interesting ' competition ' between the status of those who are, or think they are, special, hi-so or however they see themselves against someone whose dad is part of the current ruling organisation and does have influence all the way to the top.

It would be easy to say there's no prizes for guessing who will win out but clout here can have a strange application at times although it does seem the would be celebrities have overstepped the mark this time.

They don't give a stuff because the police don't give a stuff. Simple. It is totally impossible to discipline a Thai and everyone accepts that and so nothing is done to change anything.

You are right about instilling discipline but on the other hand it'a amazing that in respect of some issues they can be totally brainwashed..
