Brave doctor heads rescue during Singapore Airlines emergency
simon43 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
'Brave' doctor is simply not appropriate English to describe this doctor. (AI obviously needs to improve..). "Efficient doctor" or "Competent doctor" might be more appropriate. -
I was bored out of my mind in Pattaya
simon43 replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Some people are very happy to have actually reached retirement age, me being one of them. What with a cancer scare and crappy lungs, I would be perfectly happy to live in a small condo in Pattaya, enjoy the sun and daily walks along the promenade, chat with Thai locals, have my lunch at the cat cafe and simply thank my god that I am alive and reasonably healthy 🙂 I have stayed in Pattaya many times, and the above is my daily routine and it's great! In fact, the main reason why I do not live permanently in a Jomtien or Pattaya condo is because I can't install my myriad of ham radio antennas... 🙂 It does help to have a hobby that you can do, and stay away from the bars/bar-girls/bar-boys etc. -
Have you ever thought of joining the Thai tourist police volunteers?

Whenever I see Dr Oliver for a consultation about vaccinations, my lungs etc, he doesn't charge me, only a reasonable fee for any medicines 🙂

I have more difficulties than you because I go and change all LED and fluorescent light fittings for incandescent, filament bulbs in the property where I live. Have you ever tried to buy filament bulbs nowadays? Why? I swap over the lights because fluorescent and LED lights generate electrical interference - they cause havoc with my amateur radio hobby! Maybe you remember a thread I posted a few years ago where I disconnected the LED street light outside my home? That almost ended in disaster when the wooden ladder I used broke due to termite infestation and I fell 3 metres onto concrete, breaking several ribs and my cheekbone. The interfering light was 'gone' for a couple of months until the electricity company spotted that the wires had been cut (I denied knowledge of this and told them that a panicking owl had broken the wires!!)

Thanks to you and MrBoJangles for this advice. My Swedish landlord (well, his Thai wife) is preparing a rental agreement from a sample document that I found on the internet and his wife will then register on that website to complete the TM30 online. I don't intend to stay at the Khanom address all the time - many times I will be in Pattaya. So this seems to be the easiest solution - thanks again.
-
I would be staying at 2 different addresses. Many times I will stay at my hotel address in Pattaya, and therefore I think it's easier to do all my visa 'paperwork' in Pattaya. But I will also stay in Khanom. So from Caldera's post, it seems that my absent landlord in Khanom should register for online TM30 notifications.

DrJack54, I ignored your previous reply because you are not providing useful information, unlike the other posters in this thread who have provided relevant advice and comments. i asked a simple question >> if my visa is issued in Jomtien and my agent in Pattaya does my 90-day reports, what do I need to do to stay legal when staying at the rented property in Khanom? Stop with the childish comments and try to provide some added value to my thread. dr

That is my plan. If I'm in Khanom and the IO comes to visit, I can say that I usually stay in Pattaya and I come down to stay in Khanom from time to time. But that is my core question. if my visa extension is issued in Pattaya and the visa agent does my 90-day extensions, do I need to report my stays in Khanom?
-
Yes, when I return to Thailand in a few weeks the agent will 'arrange' the visa at Jomtien. Note that I do have 800,000 baht right now but not in any Thai bank account. (It's in my Lao bank account because of the 5%/annum interest....) The visa agent in Pattaya will arrange my retirement visa while I have an address in that locality (the hotel). But what do I need to do when I move down to Khanom? I will have an absent landlord (overseas). I want to ensure that I have no problems with the Khanom IOs....
-
Yes, I have a Bangkok Bank account for more than 20 years. But it does not have 800,000 baht in it right now (or in the previous months), because I have been living in Laos and intended to stay there until I got 'stimmied' by the air pollution. 12 months from now I should have 800,000 baht in my Bangkok Bank account.

My apologies, because I've been living outside of Thailand for a couple of years and I'm not sure what the latest requirement is as regards address reporting etc. I did a search but I do want to check that my understanding is correct. I intend to move to live from my current home in Laos to live at Khanom Beach, because my lung health has improved dramatically with the clean sea air (I'm visiting Khanom right now). I'm 65 years old. I will go back to Laos next week and then re-enter Thailand by air a few weeks later. I will enter the country on a visa waiver and then stay in Pattaya for a few weeks while I sort out my 'retirement' visa, do some shopping etc. I intend to use a visa agent who helped me a few years ago and provided good service. I have an aversion to dealing with any kind of officials, and that's why I prefer to use an agent. Therefore, when they apply for this visa, my address will be at a hotel in Pattaya. But after obtaining the visa stamp, I will move to a rented house at Khanom Beach (I have already rented the house from a Swedish/Thai couple who live in Sweden - the house is empty all year and so they have rented it to me very cheaply because I'm the 'security guard'! But how can I stay legal with the local immigration department in Khanom when I move from Pattaya? Do I need to complete a TM28 form etc for my change of address? It is my preference to keep any IOs at arm's length and only interact with them via an agent or online. Is that possible? Thanks for all your wonderful advice 🙂

Yep - I learnt from her that people get scared of nutters....!

Some years ago at Swampy Airport, a Merc driver tried to 'push' across the zebra crossing while the traffic staff had told him to stop. I was crossing at the time. As he tried to brush me and my luggage out of the way I kicked his door as hard as I could. He naturally stopped to reason with me, but I didn't give him that chance. Even before his car stopped I had pulled the driver's door open and was physically pulling him out of the car! I'm a small, old bloke and he clearly thought that I was crazy!! He waied and apologised to me while the traffic staff were p*ssing themselves laughing... Afterwards, I decided that my actions had not been wise - he could have pulled a gun on me.....

Thai groom-to-be attempts organ sale & suicide over lack of dowry

His wife-to-be couldn't be bothered to attend the scene? I politely suggest that Pete looks for a more decent person to marry, preferably with no dowry required...- 18 replies

Doing things to challenge yourself

Let me understand this. You spent the evening strutting up and down the subway train. The locals must think you're nuts! 🙂 -
One dead, 30 injured in Singapore Airlines emergency landing
simon43 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The guy in the toilet probably sh*t himself.. oh wait...! -
They will probably shoot you (and all of your family)... !

Just out of interest, if you then ask ChatGPT to summarise the summary, and then ask it to summarise the summary of the summary, will this app eventually disappear up its own backside with a one-word summary "sh*t!!'? 🙂

Is he the heavy cargo?? 🙂

.. plus most passengers would have to sit at the rear of the plane to ensure correct balance.. 🙂

How do you deal with requests for money .
simon43 replied to tomgreen's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Nowadays, any requests for money are met with shrieks of maniacal laughter - they usually don't ask again...... It used to be different many years ago, and the scenario was exactly as you described >> they need to buy some household item - I give the money - said item is never bought but money has been used 'elsewhere'. -
Surely they won't employ such a lard-bucket to fly a passenger plane - he is at hugely-increased risk of having a cardiac arrest!

Whatever you do, do not hand over your passport to the police. If this situation takes a turn for the worse, then you can only flee Thailand if you have your passport and they haven't blacklisted you from leaving Thailand, (unless you want to wade through the swamps into Cambodia...)
