Any good lawyers to sue well established computer store?
simon43 replied to timoti's topic in General Topics
Actually, that old Mac is probably worth more than 500k baht now 🙂 To add my 2 baht, I think the OP has about ZERO chance of getting any compensation for his broken laptop. He definitely has ZERO chance of compensation for lost wages etc. This is not Kansas (or London or Sydney). This is a low-end computer shop in Pattaya. The OP is in total lala dream land... -
Foreigner criticised for hammock stunt on Bangkok billboard - video
simon43 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Lol, I like how the Thai X user refers to the guy as 'มัน' = 'it' (a derogatory word usually used to refer to animals or low-class, obese Farang boyfriends of Thai bar-girls!!) -
Your comment is 'lost' on me. When I went to top up my True SIM, they offered to upgrade it to postpaid 5G. I did this, then went to Tukcom and bought a 5G pocket wi-fi unit, (since that's cheaper than buying a 5G phone). The pocket wi-fi box has no ethernet port, but it seems pretty fast when using the USB tether.

Thanks for all the advice. In the end I returned to use a solution that I've previously used >> Speedify software to link different internet services with automatic fallover/switchover. I bought a True postpaid 5g unlimited data SIM and put it in a 4G/5G 'pocket wifi' unit, then connected that to my laptop via one of the USB ports. Next I connected my AIS 4G SIM in my mobile phone to another USB port. Finally I connected to my hotel wifi service. With the True 5G connection as my primary internet connection, the other 2 are my back-ups in Speedify. Teaching online via Zoom, my connection is pretty reliable, but Speedify stats indicate that I get a 'fallover' perhaps 30 times in an hour! Having the 2 back-up internet connections saves me from loosing connection in my Zoom class 🙂

Some truth to consider before voting for Farage and 'Reform'

I wonder if the game-changer might occur when Putin dies. Are his lieutenants as keen to pursue this carnage as he was?

I learnt French from 5 years old. In later life I learnt to speak/read/write Thai, Lao and Burmese (in order of proficiency). Don't know about the Pareto principle, I just approached these new languages with an open mind.

American tourist and Thai girlfriend drown in Phuket
simon43 replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
An interesting fact is that a Swedish girl was murdered at the same spot on Mai Khao beach about 12-15 years ago - I was a police volunteer at the time and attended the scene. A local man was arrested for the murder. -
I think that many farm animals are treated very well - it's not all about producing the cheapest meat. That care also extends to the culling process. It's not all about barbaric, painful and slow deaths. For me, it's important to rear and care for an animal in the best environment (ie not mass-produced chickens etc) - and then cull it as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

American tourist and Thai girlfriend drown in Phuket
simon43 replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Mao Khao beach is not a good place to swim. I lived in that area for many years, walked along that beach thousands of times, but would only ever sit in the shallows. The beach slopes down quickly in the water, definitely not a safe place to swim, (and also very quiet with little chance of calling out to others for help). -
You clearly haven't been a long-term visitor to this forum!! 🙂

Not only protein, but also many essential minerals. From a random Google: "one survey suggests around 28% of vegans and 13% of vegetarians show one or more nutrient deficiencies. This is because many plant-based diets don't contain high levels of certain nutrients, such as vitamin B12, omega-3 fatty acids, iodine, calcium, selenium, iron and zinc" A deficiency can also occur if you only eat meat. Humans are omnivores - check their teeth, incisors for cutting meats, molars for grinding leaves. We are not designed to only eat veggie/salads and nor are we designed to only eat meats. You need a well-balanced diet to ensure that you get the essential minerals for a healthy body etc. The alternative is to rely on supplements.

I have used 4G SIMs on various mobile networks in Thailand, Laos and Myanmar for my online teaching. It generally works OK. I know from experience that I get the fastest internet connection if I use a mobile router with LAN cable connection. Next fastest is using my mobile phone 4G SIM with USB tether and the slowest (but still fast) is using a wifi connection to my router or mobile phone. Now I think it's time for me to 'up my game' and buy a SIM router that uses a 5G SIM and provides ethernet connection to my laptop. I have 2 questions: - Can you suggest (weblink) a suitable SIM router? Preferably a router that ships from Thailand. - Can you suggest the package name for unlimited 5G (dropping to 4G if necessary) prepaid SIMS for AIS, DTAC and True? I usually have a data package from 2 different mobile networks, in case one of them goes down! Thanks

Cheapest source for monthly purchase of Xatral (Alfuzosin) - BPH
simon43 replied to simon43's topic in Health and Medicine
Thanks for your comments Sheryl. Actually, I was buying Xatral when I was in Laos because that was all that the pharmacy had... I will have to check out your links. I am currently in Pattaya sorting out my retirement visa, so I might check up on the price to buy 6 months supply of a generic. -
I would be living in rural locations (maybe Khanom, Koh Lanta etc, but with good roads, not muddy tracks). I have no problems to get a Por Ror Bor etc. I find the police in Thailand, Laos and Myanmar generally either ignore me or beat a hasty retreat when they see me shouting 'have you seen my parrot squark squark!!' - seems to scare them away, don't know why...!

Sounds good! What about the various e-trikes advertised on Shopee and Lazada from China. They claim 1,000W 48v battery, perhaps 50km range between charges etc. Cost about 15,000 baht. Are they cr*p? BTW, I'm not 'disabled' yet, but just planning ahead. I know that my wonky foot will get worse in the future, so I'm trying to cost out an e-trike, reliability etc etc. @scubascuba3, Yes, I could buy a Thai 'salang',but well... it's not my style! I do have standards to keep up don't you know ol' chap 🙂

I've been riding petrol motorbikes since the age of 14. Now at 65 years old, and with a wonky bunion that is making it a little difficult to walk/jog as well as before, I am (sensibly IMHO) considering the purchase of an e-tricycle, since I assume my ability to walk/jog won't improve as a get older! Additionally, when I start to receive my UK state pension, just 12 months from now, I will have a limited monthly budget (if I finally stop teaching science online). I could run a car, I could have a petrol motorbike, I could have an electric bicycle or I could have an e-tricycle (I enjoyed horse-riding many years ago but it's probably not a realistic option for trips to Big C...). Which works out as good value for money, and would enable me to travel around, carry shopping etc? I value my independence! I do not want to rely on taxis or win riders etc. That's why I'm thinking about an e-tricycle. I'm in Pattaya for a few weeks and I've seen quite a few older men riding these trikes. They seem to go at a reasonable speed, have room for shopping etc etc. So where's the catch!? I appreciate your thoughts and advice about buying an e-trike. Thanks

My BPH is managed just fine with a daily Alfuzosin tablet. I buy 30 tablets from whatever pharmacy happens to be near me,and the price does seem to vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. But since it's a medication that I need every month, it would make more sense to source the cheapest supplier in Thailand, preferably a supplier who can post the medicine to a regional address in Thailand. Can someone suggest a reliable supplier of Alfuzosin? Thanks

Gary Lineker's Attire Sparks Controversy Over BBC Advertising Rules
simon43 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I think that 'pale green knitted T-shirt' looks awful. Has he no style? Gary comes from Leicester and so does his sponsoring company Next. I also come from Leicester and I'm happy to wear clothing that is more appropriate for this fair city. -
