1. I lived in north Phuket between about 2002 - 2012, and it was getting busy then. I visited again a few months ago and found the peaceful areas of north Phuket had all but disappeared. Where am I living now? North coast of Phangan! Unspoilt, no traffic, quiet beaches, cheap rental accommodation. I'm happy there ????
2. That's very sad news. She had been a member of this forum for many years, and always very helpful with her advice. RIP Nancy
3. Update: MRI scan results: 2 lumps wholly within my prostate, both grade 5 (highly likely to be cancerous). No surprise there. The good news is that nothing suspicious was found outside my prostate, seminal vesicles all good, lymph nodes all ok, bones all OK and apparently I have an "unremarkable rectum"!! Next will be a biopsy after Xmas to confirm the cancer and then RP surgery, (my decision and my doctor fully agrees with this decision). Today is a good day!
4. When I lived in Phuket, there were many "deadly-poisonous" cobra snakes living in my garden amongst the rubber trees. I saw them many times. I always stamped my feet when I walked so the snakes had time to move away from me. They never approached me, they never bit me - why on earth kill snakes?
5. I remember reading about a woman who owned a parrot which of course mimicked her voice. Rather than teach it to say "Who's a pretty polly" or "f88k off you <deleted>", she taught it to repeat her mobile phone number....
6. Why on earth didn't he hop over the safety barrier and then take a pee? Common sense would suggest...oh wait, this is Thailand!
7. Slipping over in the shower is quite a common cause of death for older folk I think. I've read of several deaths of forum/other forum members in this manner.
8. If I consider those farang friends of mine who have died in Thailand: Suicide - 1 Motorbike accident - 2 Diabetes - 1 Cancer - 1 old age - none
9. You can easily obtain a police background check from both the Thai police and from your home country.
10.
As this is my first ever health checkup and being over 70 years of age I’m starting to become a bit paranoid and anxious , thinking that the all test results may be all bad news , and its all downhill from there on
If it were all bad news, I doubt that you would have reached the good age of 70+ without ever having a health check-up!
11.
I am in my 60's and I believe that if anyone doesn't understand what the poster meant when he said he is out, is, well, way behind the times, I understood what he was saying as clear as daylight.
Although to be fair, there are some important differences between 'real' English (that means from Ol' Blighty), and American, which could lead to misunderstandings. Yonks ago (30 years or so), I visited New York and after ordering a pizza in a restaurant, the waitress asked me if it was 'to go'. 'Go where?' I asked (the phrase 'to go' was not in common usage at that time in the UK).
12. Poppycock! I used nearly all those words today in 7/11...... (I was gently removed by the security staff shortly afterwards!).
13.
What is he, a career student?
Obviously not, because the report states that he was reported for not attending his classes...
14. I use Payoneer regularly to receive payments, which are automatically added to my Payoneer debit card (that I can use in ATM machines). Or I can top up my Wise account using that card. Once your Payoneer account is set up, everything seems to go smoothly, BUT their customer service definitely sucks..
15.
Translate the word 'pajero' from Spanish and you'll get a truer meaning of what to call her.
When I translate that word from Spanish to English using Google Translate, the translated word is 'pajero' !!
16. Good to see that they mask it's face so we can't recognise it!
17. What subject did you study when you had your study visas? You could be tested on this by immigration.
18. Thank heavens! I will feel much safer when I sleep tonight...
19. Well, that is a joke comment of course! My pension will fall due when I'm 66, and for one, I'm happy at the raging inflation in the UK, because the triple lock means that my pension will be about 15% higher than what is paid out today. Of course, it will be frozen, but 30,000 baht or so a month is plenty enough for me!
20. I live on Koh Phangan - temporarily banished from living/working in Myanmar for medical and political reasons. In the morning I jog a couple of km to the 7/11 and back, then teach English and Thai to about 40 Burmese kids in the local community. I'm a techie person, so enjoy my ham radio hobby and building antennas to receive weather satellite and ISS pictures etc. Swim on the sea every afternoon, teach science online, just waiting for my UK state pension to start in about 30 months from now. Then I will have more freedom to travel, teach, do more hobbies etc.
21. The concept of an education visa is that you actually attend lessons ????. That could be in Thai language, Chinese or even Muay Thai. If you obtain such a visa, and don't attend your lessons as per the required schedule, then don't be surprised if immigration makes a surprise visit....
22. Yonks ago in Leicester I saw 2 Indian gentlemen carrying a sofa on 2 bicycles, one cycling behind the other!!
