  1. What a shambles! This is why you should be able to go to any Immigration office regardless of where your staying! Same as police stations and hospitals. The brain-fart of an idea to regionalise Immigration offices is a farce!

And your home country has a wonderful administration ?

    Absolutely no complaints ?

Wish I lived in that place

Care to tell us where it can be found?

Please remind us about the American Government Shutdown Fiasco !

I live in the north where there is a nearby Immigration office, only 100km away but I have to drive for over 240km to go to my designated Immigration office. Now, why is that not a backward thinking situation? Now talking about the American shutdown I have nothing to do with or careless as I am not an American citizen.

You do not like it the answer is simple you leave !

You go back to your wonderful country where all is sweetness and light !

No "Backward thinking" in your country !

Tell us where this wonderful place can be found ?smile.png

  2. 65000 Bht a month about £1250 income would secure you a Retirement extension.

Getting married to secure a "visa" is a bad idea as is borrowing money.

What security can you offer your , admittedly , generous relatives - Would/could you ever pay them back ?

What happens next year ? Will the money still be in the bank ?

Sorry to be brutal but you need to face reality .

  4. First of all, I would advise against doing this in Chiang Mai and consider only a handful of places in Bkk. For open heart surgery you need to consider not only the surgeon but the experience of the entire team, including perfusionists and nurses. Once discharged he can certainly recuperate in CM but they have been doing open heart surgery up there for a far shorter time than in Bkk and also do a lower volume.

Cost - a private hospital will run over 300,000 baht i.e. USD $10,000. A government hospital would be about 100,000 baht, so enormous savings but a lot of initial red tape and delays. Need a Thai speaker to help navigate on the first few visits, may take as many as 3-5 visits before he actually sees a cardiac surgeon and then likely a wait to get on the OR schedule.

The best government hospital for this is Ratchawithi near Victory Monument.

Just a small point a "triple bypass" is not "open heart " surgery although it may involve bypass !

Concur in choosing a surgeon with a lot of experience

  5. I'm impressed with all the stuff people take. Can someone tell me the benefits of turmeric and ginger ? I would love to give up the blood pressure meds taking .

Be very careful about taking "alternative" medication in addition to that prescribed by a Doctor.

Always seek medical advise before stopping any prescribed medication and ensure that any "alternative" is actually safe when taken in conjunction with your medication.

The only source of informed advise on these issues is your Doctor or in some cases a reputable web site such a the one provided by the Mayo Clinic.

  6. It is not a re

A"medical" is only required if applying for an O/A visa in your own country.

Actually when I was in the new Immigration at Rankhhamheng last year, they told me I could apply for a Retirement Visa now, but said the application DOES require a medical certificate, so seems both yourself and Jingthing are not correct on this?

A only a few Immigration offices apply this "rule" it is not a requirement.

  7. The only long stay visa is a OA visa which is for retirement. The medical certificate for it does not have HIV/AID listed. But it is possible a doctor in your home country might not sign it if you were. See: http://www.thaiembdc.us/dcdp/sites/default/files/files/consular%20application/1_3%20Medical%20Carticate.pdf

That is a distinct possibility given the form includes this......."free from any defect" (sic)
