  1. "According to TCT research, Thai tourism should no longer suffer from the global economic downturn as the United States and Europe are recovering while China and Japan are making efforts to rebuild economies that will encourage people to travel abroad."

While this may be true, There won't be many high end, or even "medium-end" tourists coming to Thailand unless the ridiculous 10,000 baht "personal effects" limit is changed, or the rules are clarified.

I plan to go to America for a couple of months and I carry a lot more than 10,000 baht worth of things with me. I dread coming back through Thai customs.

  2. If the passenger who refused to show his boarding pass was considered a legitimate threat to security, then I can understand Nok Air's actions; however, I often read stories of airlines over-reacting to a rude or grumpy customer. Certainly there are customers who are not pleasant to deal with, but unless it is a legitmiate security threat - the staff needs to deal with them without evacuating a plane full of customers who want to get to their destinations.

I agree! Why inconvenience everyone for one stupid, obnoxious passenger? Like a previous poster said, just open a cabin door that has no stairs attached and throw the bum out. Problem solved, take off as scheduled.

  3. I would suggest to merge CAT and TOT. Why does Thailand need two telecom branches who don't really know if they are part of the privat sector or part of the supervising governement.

They are in a constant conflict of interest which is bad for all.

But if TOT or CAT want to be competitive in the private sector, first they need to understand what the customer needs. Not that TRUE etc have much better understanding, but if TOT and CAT actually do their homework, they could actually get a big share of the market.

E.g. allow credit card payment even after 4 pm (no joke!) and stop promissing download speeds they cannot deliver. (listen, TRUE!)

Yes! And all the other requirements that will be needed to move their Customer Service out of the 19th century into the 21st century. For instance: Customer service reps that actually know what they are talking about, understand "credit" on an invoice and can operate a computer without calling for help from another person, a billing system that is comprehensible (easy to understand), easy on-line payment options, etc.

  4. Pay the BIB a proper wage, like may other developing countries had to do to stamp out wide spread corruption. Cops earn peanuts here.

I do concede you have a good point with the massive amounts of unlicensed drivers, I know heaps who have been pulled over and got ff repeatedly for a 100b Bribe, again it comes down to the BIB enforcing this, a real culture change.

Where do posters get this idea of paying these guys more to prevent corruption.

How much do you suggest ? .. considering they do close to nothing, then they should be payed accordingly.

They dont even know how to effectively direct traffic, its always one direction at a time .. have you not noticed ?

Get them out doing some work for starters.

Yes! It would be quite simple to set up a system whereby the officer who writes the ticket puts his/her badge # on the ticket. When the fine is paid, the officer gets a percentage of the ticket fee. Of course, in order to do this there would have to be a set fee for each offense, payable to a central location, not the officer. Also, there must be some way to prevent officers from writing unjust tickets.

  5. Still small time stuff. There are many more places and bigger places selling the same.Easy standing targets always good for a headline.

When are they really going to do something worthwhile? There must be dozens of yaabaa dealers, and other crooks all over the city why don't they round them up?

Unfortunatly,we know why.Nothing has changed even with the new broom in charge.

All very true. Nothing will change unless/until jail time is required and large fines are required. coffee1.gif

  6. I just received a new HP Pavilion from America. I worked with a friend of mine in California. He purchased it, tested it, installed some software and shipped it to me Priority Mail. I got it 10 days later, paid some duty (under 1,000 baht), and am now a happy camper.

    All the best to you.

Edit: I have heard that Apple computers are not acceptable to hacking the way Windows machines are. Just saying.

  7. 6 years and 12000 baht, bit on the light side financially, should have cleaned out his bank account but at least he was given jail. Lets hope this continues to all the other scammers that the ptp allowed to get away.

Yes, he was "given" jail. However, nowhere do I read the he is in jail.

Is he really in jail, should be prison, or did they just convict him then let him go home to get his toothbrush and jammies?? coffee1.gif

  8. "At a meeting last week, authorities announced the first of a three-part campaign would be requiring posted sign boards advertising the fares for common destinations by distance."

Let's hope phase 2 requires the signs to be in English as well as Thai. A pamphlet printed in Thai & English, approved, produced and distributed by the NCPO would be the best.

  9. Well I hope that this ridiculous prosecution only serves to further highlight the human trafficking taking place in Thailand and a forthcoming, well deserved downgrade.

I wholeheartedly second this emotion. As per today's "paper that cannot be quoted", the NCPO is looking for a rise. However, with stupid lawsuits like this, Thailand should be sent to the lowest ranking.

  10. Cheney advocated for the invasion of Iraq (see PNAC) and also got his company, Halliburton, over $20 billion US taxpayer dollars in no-bid contracts.

As a thank you to the American taxpayers, Halliburton moved all its operations off shore to Dubai in 2007 to avoid being responsible for paying US taxes.

Yet there is not a peep from the usual teaparty crowd on this forum who just spent the last several days on the Cantor thread telling us they stand for reining in out-of-control gov't spending.

    Go figure.

Unfortunately, the US created this mess in Iraq and we have some responsibility in fixing it since our actions have now resulted in the death of more innocent Iraqis than if Saddam had remained in power 100 years.

Yes, we Americans got rid of the government that was keeping everything under control with force.

Yes, America went in and got rid of the existing government.

However, America also dit its best to set up an inclusive government. The current Iraq government is anything but inclusive.

I say that the current government created this mess by NOT BEING INCLUSIVE. The current Iraq government did not want the Americans, or anyone else, to help them set up their government, or do anything else in-country. Does this sound like another country somewhere in the world? They wanted us GONE! So, we left.

The current Iraq government created this mess and they should be the ones to clean it up. Without America's help.

  11. Popular Chinese Android Smartphone Has Malware Pre-Installed
Posted on Jun 15 2014 - 6:26pm by Chad Buenaflor
One of the biggest threats to the Android platform is malware. Earlier this year a report was released that showed the platform to be the target of 97% of all mobile malware in 2013. This is a significant increase from its record of 79% from the previous year. Most of the time malware enters an Android device through apps installed from unofficial sources. However, a new method has been discovered for this threat to infect a device and it is done from the factory.
The Star N9500, a popular Galaxy S4 clone in China, comes pre-installed with the Uupay.D trojan straight out of the factory. The Trojan disguises itself as a Google Play service but then collects data from the device without restrictions. It can record phone conversations without the user knowing about it. The microphone of the device can be activated remotely so that anyone can listen to conversations within range of the phone. It also sends out SMS to premium services which leads to a higher bill for the user.

Probably designed per request of and produced under the watchful eye of the Chinese government.

  12. But all it says is, "... listen and gather all views from the police themselves.". I don't have much confidence that this will lead to any of the very much needed changes.

As in any major project, it's the place to start. Also as with any major project, no doubt individuals will be putting forth views that suit their own personal agenda.

The question is, who will do the assessing of the feedback in order to weed out personal agendas, from views intended to actually improve the police force? And then, who will do the implementation?

The critical point being, whoever does those two things needs to be corruption free. They also probably need to have more than one year before retirement. I don't think its a 12 month job.

But fingers crossed the project at least leads to some improvement. I for one think it's THE most critical thing to improving Thailands development. If a country has the rule of law, properly applied and enforced with appropriate punishment, everything else starts to fall into place, or can at least be properly addressed.

While I agree with almost everything that you say, Carrerakiss, I believe that education is of equal importance. Without a thinking, intelligent, smart electorate, the ability to vote in good people and vote out corrupt, incompetent people will not, cannot happen.

  13. Any man who is cowardly enough to lift their hand to a woman deserves to be locked up for a very long time. If found guilty the death sentence would be too lenient.

I am so glad I do not live in your world. There are scum woman, just like there are scum men. Should not both be treated equally?

Yes, equally - and never ever hit either of them for any reason, unless your life was truly and undeniably threatened at that very moment. But that's not what you mean, right? You want to hit people.

No, I am not, and never have been, one who wants to go around hitting people. I think hitting people is not the way to go. However, there are circumstances where one must protect ones self, whether you are male or female. It is called "self defense".

  14. A notice to members willing to make a donation.

I have realized, that the school has closed the Agricultural Bank account and opened a new one with another Bank.

    As the TV rules specify:

    22) Members are forbidden to ask for or accept donations, gifts or commissions from other members.

I am unable to provide you with the new details.

I would, suggest, if you don't speak Thai, to ask your wife or g/f to ring the school and obtain the new details, as I have done.

The telephone number is 087-204-4727 as in the OP.

    Regards

    Costas

Thank you Costas! It seems you have done all you can do. Now it is up to the rest of us to follow through.
