  1. PDRC, Suthep, and the Caretaker Government all know they are at a Stale Mate without the Military inteivining.

While this may be true, I doubt it. The leaders of both factions are too pig headed to admit that they are wrong. They both consider that they are right and everyone else is wrong. What bozos! Congratulations to the Thai education system and Thai "tradition" for creating so many boneheads.

  2. It's a waiting game. Don't be swayed by her tears, they burn like acid.

Yes, I agree. I watched her speech closely and observed that as she left the podium her "tears" turned into a wry smile. It was if the whole speech was a sham to make people think what she and her brother want people to think. I also saw others around her with wide grins. Nowhere was there sadness.

Beware the evil siblings and their followers!

  3. Welp, looks like no Turkey again for us Yanks.

I've gone without Turkey day for about 15 years.

I MISS CRANBERRY SAUCE!! AND GRAVEY!! AND BISCUITS!! AND A CHOICE BETWEEN LIGHT MEAT OR THE DARK!! AND HAM WITH THE PINEAPPLE CHUNKS ON TOP!! AND APPLE PIE!! AND PUMPKIN PIE!! AND "WHO WILL CARVE THE TURKEY?" AND..........................!!

Ahem....excuse me. I was on a Nastolgic rant..........

Maybe I'm a little flakey, but I enjoyed your "rant". I would like to add STUFFING and MASHED POTATO. biggrin.png

I've been in Thailand for three Thanksgiving day and the one that I enjoyed the most was when I was in Krabi. A restaurant there went all out. They did their research and came up with a wonderful meal. Although Krabi is a long way from Samui, I just may take a trip next November if I know they will be serving again in 2014. tongue.pngthumbsup.gifcoffee1.gif

    Happy Holidays to all!

  4. Try the Islander in Chaweng. Dennis used to serve turkey on Thanksgiving.

Thanks Wayned. I'll give it a go.

Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans in Thailand!

On Thanksgiving day I went to Chaweng and found the Islander. Although they do serve great English fare, nothing was available for this Yank looking for Turkey, etc.

I had to settle for their standard Thursday special. Not bad, but not turkey. sad.png

  5. Congratulations to these three motivated young Thais! These aspiring travelers will get an opportunity to experience other cultures and ways of thinking. I am happy for them and wish them well. I hope they return to Thailand with an outlook that is little less "Thai" and a little more "Worldly". If thousands of Thai youngsters could have similar experiences, things might start to change for the better here.

  6. Is Kat Kan Do in Ban Rak still open? If they are, perhaps you wouldn't mind providing me with directions from Lamai Beach?

Paste this into Google maps +9° 33' 52.34", +100° 3' 44.71" thumbsup.gif ...far end of Banrak by the turning to the airport

Thanks for the info. I went and found the place yesterday afternoon. The real name is Cat Can Do. It is opposite the Seatran ferry terminal and this year they will not be serving anything associated with Thanksgiving. Also I found that there is an alternate spelling, "Bangrak".

I hope someone is kind enough to provide another location. coffee1.gif

  7. I also am looking.

As a Yank, born and raised in New England, I would really enjoy a traditional, New England style Thanksgiving meal. Any suggestions will be most appreciated.wai.gif

  8. Your holidays will be finished by the time you find a rental firm that would be silly enough to take a risk without a big deposit.

Not So! At least not for motorbikes. I don't know about the bigger motorcycles. There is a place in Lamai that rents motorbikes and scooters that does not require a large deposit or a passport. Now, I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, specific names of businesses cannot be mentioned here so, if you are interested in knowing the name and telephone number of the place, send me a message. I am renting a scooter for 3,000 baht a month with only a 3,000 baht deposit. smile.png

    Best of luck!

  9. It is standard practise to charge the surviving driver. Then an investigation takes place to decide whether to proceed with or drop the charges.

Hi Edwin, I htink you might want to re-read the article. It didn

t say the NZ chap was driving fast, it said he was driving in the fast lane. It went on to say that he drove into the rear of the garbage truck as it was parked to collect garbage which hints at the fact he was parked in the fast lane. Which is probably a crime even in Thailand?

Alwin, you need to re-read the article. It says that the garbage truck driver said that he was parked on the side of the road and that the car driver was operating at a high speed. So, using your noodle, you would have to conclude that, in order to hit the garbage truck and do the damage shown in the picture, one would have to be driving on the side of the road.

My guess, poor guy had a heart attack with his foot on the gas pedal and CRASH! May he RIP.

  10. A few days ago this site reported on how Thai people are obssesed with Taksin, I see how this site reports each time the jerk farts.

Keep upthe good work Thai Visa.

I understand why so many Thais seem to be obsessed with TOXIN and his sister YUKLUCK. They and the rest of their family and friends are just like the great Thai soap operas. Sometimes amusing, sometimes not, but always entertaining.

  11. Why didn't they do these checks before on a regular basis to protect visitors safety. sad.png

They also checked about 2 months ago, and are checking the boats on a regular basis.

    They dooooooooooo whistling.gif .

Is it the same team that check on coaches that crash near every week ?

In all fairness, they can not do much about captains and staff being on drugs.

The cause of this accident was staff including captain being on drugs, as confirmed by the captain.

Sure they could run spot checks but that still does not fix the problem.

The only solution is tougher penalties, but again do not think that would stop captains taking drugs

Excuse me, but I have to disagree. There is a very simple, straightforward way of making sure Skipper and crew are drug free. Test them for drugs before they step on the boat. Search them for drugs before they step onto the boat. Any crew member who tests positive is fired on the spot, no exception! It would not take long at all to make the problem go away.

Having said that, this is Thailand where saving face is of utmost importance, so it won't happen.

  12. "The captain of a ferry that capsized about 1,500 metres offshore from Pattaya on Sunday evening has turned himself in, telling police he was high on drugs while on his duty".

    Now there's a surprise !

What an idiot this "boat captain" is. This turd should have something operated upon so he can never drive anything more than a bicycle for the rest of his life. The boat company should be barred from carrying passengers in anything larger than a row boat until they can prove that they are capable of quality maintenance, competent and intelligent hiring, are well versed in standard marine safety rules, etc.

  13. It is now November, 2013, and I am a Yank that spent the first 50 years of my life eating New England style Thanksgiving dinners. I would love to be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this year, here on Samui.

I believe that Catcandoo no longer exists (their website has not been updated since 2011) and the Shamrock Irish Pub in Lamai is only doing Christmas this year.

If anyone knows of a place that is doing Thanksgiving Dinner this year, here on Samui, I sure would appreciate hearing from you.

    Happy Holidays! wai.gif

  14. About ta bian bas see luang; I have one ( I rent a house ) , and if I change adress ( in same province or an other province ), I have to go to the amphoe and tell them my new adress ? They will write my new adress in the tabian ban see luang ? Thank you

No, the tabien baan belongs to the house (owner) not to you and lists who is officialy residing at that address.

If you move, you need to be removed from the tabien baan and be entered into the tabien baan for your new address (if your new landlord will allow it).

On 1 October, I moved from Nakhon Si Thammarat Provence to a rental house on Koh Samui. My 90 day notice is due this month and I have read all the posts with interest. Does anyone have experience with the Koh Samui Immigration office?? Any information provided will be greatly appreciated.
