  1. Hey Guys,

Bit of a random question this one. Basically when my wife and I return home to the UK in a few years she will walk back into her old job where as I may have to wait a while until a position comes up for my proffesion. One thought that popped into my head was maybe of offering Thai massages as a little business to earn a few extra quid.

I have been looking at Wat Po courses as I assume these would be the best on paper and the standard seems high, however I have no idea really what their worth would be back in the west.

    http://www.watpomassage.com/2014/

Would the qualification be recognised in the UK? Would I be able to offer these massages back in the UK straight away or would it require an equally as intensive UK based course? I did some research but could only find info for Massage Therapists which seems to be well beyond the small Thai / Oil massages I want to offer from my own startup.

    Any help much appreciated,

    Cheers

  2. Hi Guys,

I will be in and out of the country over the next few years and so am looking for a way to keep my newly planted superhot chilli plants watered in my absence.

I am finding it hard to find any systems similar to the Hozelock Digital Timer:

All I can find is on Lazada one called Claber but it is more expensive and the review do not seem so good:

I cannot seem to find any of the watering kits with all the pieces to drip feed the plants either. I think in Watsadu I saw something similar but at the time was not looking for a wtering system so didn't really pay attention. I did find a system on http://th.prubuy.com but I am not sure if I will get slammed with import tax etc.

    1. Can anyone point me where I can buy a decent system here in Thailand, preferably online?
    2. Can anoyone point me to any of the drip system attachments etc?
  3. Anyone else here training Judo at the moment?

I went along to The Sports Science Center in the Hua Mark Sports Complex on Ramkhamhaeng Road a few months back but on the day I went it was just the Thai National Team. The main guy coaching / training was actually half British so I was lucky to be able to chat about Judo. They have broke away from Thai judo and are focusing on JuJitsu I think he said it was mainly Ne Waza. They let me join for the session and they were very good. However I would like to find somewhere farang friendly, not to far from the beaten track for more traditional Judo.

  4. I have been recently thinking about a move to Australia and what that would entail with our boxer dog from here in Thailand.

From what I can gather Malaysia is the best bet as the Category 3 country to handle the exporting. I am a teacher so have 7 weeks off in the summer, in theory we are hoping we could drive to Malaysia (Padang Besar) and have our dog in quarantine for a week. During this time hopefully we can have a certified Vet take a blood sample for RNAT testing to get the ball rolling and give him his new vaccines required for Australia.

Then when the week is over rent a place for 3 to 4 more weeks nearish to the airport we will fly from whilst all other tests etc are done by the approved VETS. Then onward to AUS.

Can anyone see any flaws to this? My main worry is that any rabbies vaccinations the Malaysians want on entry will conflict with the required RNAT test. Hopefully they can get approved vets etc and it will be compatible with the Australian requirements.

Next is hopefully renting a place that will allow a dog for 3 - 4 weeks isnt too expensive.

Lastly finding an airline to Australia that will take him, and not break the bank again.

Seems doable but so many things could delay the process. Does anyone have any first hand experience with all this?

  5. I hope that compulsory insurance is not the only cover you have for you and your motorcycle as it covers almost nothing. The most dangerous thing that about any of us do every day is drive a motorcycle here in Thailand and I would certainly advise getting that risk covered and covered well. The very first class insurance cover that I have cost about 2,500 Bt a year.

    Cheers!

I did get a quote from a company and for 3rd party fire and theft it was over 3700tbh. When I asked why it was so expensive compared to my car I insure with them the agent said as they get stolen often in Thailand. Seing as it/s only worth 22000 tbh anyone I figured its not worth it.

What would be the benifit of extra insurance over the basic? I have health insurance already and the bike is worth so little. If I crashed I assume the basic would be enough to cover and damage caused? Otherwise how would the average Thai afford the damages?

  6. Thing is I am pretty busy at the moment with work and for like 200tbh it is easier for the garage I use to do it like they did my car tax. I was just a bit unsure about insurance details needed.

Another issue is that due to my work messing up last year it has been untaxed and uninsured since February so am expecting to pay the outstanding TAX as well. I would rather a native speaker handle it than me bumble through lol

  7. Hi Guys,

I am hoping to get my local garage to get the tax and compulsory insurance for my scooter this week. He speaks a little english and me a little thai so I just wnat to check I know the process fully first.

When I ask him to arrange my years insurance will they need my full name, address, dob etc etc? or is it just the scooter reg and greenbook needed?

    Cheers

  8. Hi Guys,

Just wanted to pick your brains about being fully legal on my scooter. Last year I had my employers transport department sort out my scooter green book from a previous owner who had bought it at auction. Bit of a pain as they had to transfer to the sellers maid, then onto me so it ended up costing a bit more than I expected. This was done around December 2013 and I hoped would be taxed until December 2014.

Now what I am a bit confused about is I assumed it would be taxed and insured for a year so I would renew in December 2014 but looking at the green book it looks like the tax for 100 baht at the back of the book was paid up until February 2014!! i.e not taxed for 11 months.

I have a feeling that the tax was due when the bike was taken for tax and transfer etc and so a year was paid which ended in Feb 2014.

Now I assume I will pay for a years tax and the 11 months missed? How do I stand on compulsory insurance for this missed period?

Lastly if I ask my local garage who sorted my car tax recently to do the bike, can they sort the compulsory insurance at the same place? I was quoted 324 by an agent but if it can be done by my garage whilst getting tax it would be much easier.

    Cheers

  9. When you say after 7 years do you mean every year after 7? Or just one check up after 7 years?

Also my insurance broker has informed me that my blue books states my vehicle as commercial so I have to pay more for the CTPL (968 TBH). Is this OK or should I change it to non commercial? Will my TAX be higher as a Commercial vehicle also?

    Thanks

  10. Hi Guys,

    I have a 1996 Nissan NV and a Suzuki Skydrive 125 moped.

I have arranged insurance for the pickup which includes the CTPL and am considering getting the Tax myself rather than a company etc. My only concern is that as the vehicle is 18 years old, does it need a Roadworthy test every year after its 7th year?

Secondly for the moped / scooter, about 8 months ago someone must have knocked / ripped off my tax disc tube and I am unsure when it is due exactly. Can this info be found in the Green book? and also is it going to be more of a pain to get this renewed with the old one missing?

Lastly do bikes require the same CTPL as cars?

    Thanks in advanced guys smile.png

  11. Thanks but it just says 'carded' with no indication of the postoffice it is at. The red stamp on the card has got wet so I can only see the first part. I think it might be at:

    Thailandpost Co.,Ltd- Bangna Station,House No.334 Sanphawut Road Bangna Subarea,Bangna Area Bangkok Province,TH 10260
based on the first part of the phone number?
Also I think I can see ที่ทำการไปรษณีย์ which looks the same as the postoffice on google maps. Cheers for the help :)
  12. This might work but I found with a scooter I bought that if it has been signed over to someone else but not fully processed via the DLT etc and then sold onto someone else that the last person has to transfer it to the previous people officially first and basically pay for 2 transfers.

i.e. I bought the scooter from a guy who had bought the scooter recently from someone else, complete with all the signed licence scans and forms etc, he then did the same for me, signed his own licence scans and completed forms but when I went to officially register at the DLT I had to paw to have it transferred to him and then transferred to me.

  13. Can anyone give a ball park figure for what I would be looking at for one of those carryboy type covers for the back of my 1996 Nissan NV Pickup?

There is a place near me which seems to have lots of different ones stacked up so I wanted to arm myself with at least a rough price to work with should he have one that would fit my car. Obviously that would be 2nd hand, not painted but hopefully fitted. I am not even sure how common they are for an old motor like mine?

    Cheers

  14. OK so I am a bit confused with the free TV channels the Thais get. I know they are in Thai but it is always good for a bit of background noise for the dog and I like the Muay Thai.

Basically the landlord of the house I rent said he has a dish he will install but I need to buy the receiver. Now I have a Samsung F7100 HDTV which accepts the coax satellite dish cable input with the screw on part and has a built in DVB receiver.

In the UK i used to hook the satellite straight up into the TV for freesat but in this house the landlord has fitted the house with the older Ariel style sockets, so I assume he intends the dish to supply those with a signal. Can I use these pre-wired old style sockets to carry the signal from the dish to the in built DVB receiver on my TV with some form of adapter or are the 2 setups completely different?

I am a bit confused as to:

    A) Can I get around having to buy a Set Top Box / Receiver for my TV??

    B) Can you get free channels using a satellite dish or would that need an old school Ariel?

    Cheers

  15. I have a small amount of Diazapam form the UK for flying and 10 tablets from Cambodia a friend bought over. I only use them for flying to calm me before and during. The americans rave about Xanax so when another friend went to Cambodia I asked him to buy me a few packs thinking he would get a few packs of 10...

I now have 3 packs of 100!!! Tried 0.5mg for the first tiem at home the other day as I dont really want to trial on a plane and didnt really notice the effects that much tbh. Prefer Valium.

If you take any sort of sleeping pill when flying, what do you do if you can't get a window seat, and you keep having to rise every time someone wants to go to the toilet?

I get the isle seat either side of the middle 3 with my wife on the isle seat opposite me. Basically usually means I have a couple next to me and they can bug each other when they need to go to the toilet. I am out for the count.
