  1. This might work but I found with a scooter I bought that if it has been signed over to someone else but not fully processed via the DLT etc and then sold onto someone else that the last person has to transfer it to the previous people officially first and basically pay for 2 transfers.

i.e. I bought the scooter from a guy who had bought the scooter recently from someone else, complete with all the signed licence scans and forms etc, he then did the same for me, signed his own licence scans and completed forms but when I went to officially register at the DLT I had to paw to have it transferred to him and then transferred to me.

  2. Can anyone give a ball park figure for what I would be looking at for one of those carryboy type covers for the back of my 1996 Nissan NV Pickup?

There is a place near me which seems to have lots of different ones stacked up so I wanted to arm myself with at least a rough price to work with should he have one that would fit my car. Obviously that would be 2nd hand, not painted but hopefully fitted. I am not even sure how common they are for an old motor like mine?

    Cheers

  3. OK so I am a bit confused with the free TV channels the Thais get. I know they are in Thai but it is always good for a bit of background noise for the dog and I like the Muay Thai.

Basically the landlord of the house I rent said he has a dish he will install but I need to buy the receiver. Now I have a Samsung F7100 HDTV which accepts the coax satellite dish cable input with the screw on part and has a built in DVB receiver.

In the UK i used to hook the satellite straight up into the TV for freesat but in this house the landlord has fitted the house with the older Ariel style sockets, so I assume he intends the dish to supply those with a signal. Can I use these pre-wired old style sockets to carry the signal from the dish to the in built DVB receiver on my TV with some form of adapter or are the 2 setups completely different?

I am a bit confused as to:

    A) Can I get around having to buy a Set Top Box / Receiver for my TV??

    B) Can you get free channels using a satellite dish or would that need an old school Ariel?

    Cheers

  4. I have a small amount of Diazapam form the UK for flying and 10 tablets from Cambodia a friend bought over. I only use them for flying to calm me before and during. The americans rave about Xanax so when another friend went to Cambodia I asked him to buy me a few packs thinking he would get a few packs of 10...

I now have 3 packs of 100!!! Tried 0.5mg for the first tiem at home the other day as I dont really want to trial on a plane and didnt really notice the effects that much tbh. Prefer Valium.

If you take any sort of sleeping pill when flying, what do you do if you can't get a window seat, and you keep having to rise every time someone wants to go to the toilet?

I get the isle seat either side of the middle 3 with my wife on the isle seat opposite me. Basically usually means I have a couple next to me and they can bug each other when they need to go to the toilet. I am out for the count.

  5. Hi Guys,

I will be heading back to Blighty for 3 weeks soon and when I come back to Thailand I would like to make some sausages (Lincolnshire, Cumberland etc).

I hear you can get the skins in Makro here but was wondering if it is best to buy the machine / spices and herbs in the UK and bring back or just buy here and use weight allowance for other things. I would only probably buy an ebay jobby anyway when in UK.

Also do I need a mincer or can I just pound it with hands?

    Cheers

  6. Don't get me wrong it pulls well it just almost feels like i am dropping the clutch in the gears too soon and the engine struggles to pull until it hits a certain rev then it pulls strong. Unfortunately as I have never driven a carb I cannot tell if it is just the change I'm not used to. Surly airflow plays an important role in carb engines as it means more enriched air entering opposed to injection where it is directly added to the piston?

  7. So with a light gun I should easily be able to advance / retard the timing just by twisting the dizzy? No head off work?

Is it even worth doing these kinda things here in Thailand for should I just take it to a Nissan garage and ask them to give it a look over and tune up? Would that be cheap?

I am pretty handy with mechanics but all my tools are in the UK so would have to buy a timing light, multimeter, socket sex etc.

  8. Code GA16,maybe it's still got the origional plugs incool.png a new set with the correct gap might help along with new air filter.

The engine looks fairly well kept so I would think sparks are OK, but will have a look for carbon deposits etc.

At the moment I am finding the temperature guage is hardly budging even after being stuck in traffic. It moves past the resting place but only about 1/8th of the full range. Trying to find where the sensor is and check connection. With the heat here in BKK I doubt its a cool engine caused by thermostat not opening. That engine was hot!

Might also check the timing with a light gun and retard / advance timing via the distributor, but just want to ensure the lag I experience when changing gear is not cause I am so used to injection engines which I guess are more responsive. With no rev counter it is hard to know if shifting too early too (pre 3000RPM).

  9. Hi Guys,

Have just bought a 1996 Nissan NV LX and been nosing about the engine a bit. This is my first Carburettor car I have owned and definitely feels different to drive, seems to not like pulling too hard in the lower revs of each gear, is this normal? I cant tell if I just need to stay in gear longer compared to my old VW 2.0 litre injection car I had. Once the revs are higher this one pulls nicely.

I am also trying to find any english information online about the car or engine. Was it sold in the west under another name? The Engine must be in other Nissan's but not sure which ones. Does anyone know the engine code for the LX 1996 Carb 1.6 Twincam? Is it the GA16DS?

Also any links to resources would be great help, such as stripping down the carb etc.

    cheers.

  10. Back on topic guys...

I went to see the motor today and really nice so paid 5000 deposit and his wife (Thai reg owner) signed photo ID scan as receipt. So next Thursday we are all due to head to the DLT centre to have the transfer processed.

Only strange thing was the guys wife's signature was not anywhere in the blue book. He phoned her (she was at work) and asked and she said it doesn't need to be and the signatures are the people who processed the transfers? Is this correct? Nothing dodgy as no cash paid until transfer complete at DLT so just want to save any possible wasted time.

Next question is what info will I need to give the owner about me to transfer the insurance correctly? My name, address, wife's details? Anything like drivers licence number etc?

  11. OK So from my research am I correct in thinking the seller needs to provide:

I will then be able to take all this along with signed photocopies of my passport, visa and workpermit to the DLT and as it is Tax'd and Insured until January simply pay a small fee to transfer the car legally to my name?

Anything I am missing of have got wrong?

    Cheers Guys

  13. Hi Guys,

I will hopefully be buying a car from a guy on taladrod.com who speaks good english. If the car is all good I will be paying cash.

I have purchased a moped before but just wanted to check what I need to do when buying a car?

I should recieve the Blue book?

Do I have to post any forms to the government? If so what forms and where do I get them?

Anything else I should recieve from him if sold with Insurance and Tax?

Do I need to get him to sign a photocopy of his passport etc?

Do I need to get him to sign anything to say he recieved the money from me?

    Any advice much appreciated,

    Thanks

  14. Hi Guys,

I need an AC unit installed in a small (5 meter x 4 meter) room in the upstairs of my house. Far too hot to work in!

I am happy for a seconda hand unit and probably looking for a 20000 BHU unit so I could open the door and let some cool air spill into a spare room if guests staying.

What would I be looking at roughly to have this installed?

Is it worth going second hand or just buy new (guarentee, reliability, effeciency etc?)

Is it worth splashing out for an Inverter type given it is just to cool an office size room I work in, not constantly for whole house?

Also is it feasable to install yourself if fairly handy with DIY?

    Cheers
