  1. Giving heated emotional and blaming info about oldest bank in the Kingdom is a great idea. Situation must be explained.

Personally, I client of 3 banks here and my wife is a corporate client of SCB. 95% of my problems in communication disappear when I stop using English language and speak Thai with bank staff. This is true, a lot of bank staff have a problem to explain in foreign language some complicated products and services. So, please explain what product you use now, maybe I can help...

  2. Not knowing the products they are selling and giving wrong information is quite normal for Thai bank staff.

That's why you don't make any serious investments here. Keep your assets in countries where people have some education and some minimum IQ.

Totally agree, such investors must leave Kingdom immediately and never return. They just a foreigners, and no one welcome them here.

  3. Very interesting manufacturer. Whole line of products included PoE switches, but PoE not 803af standard (48v), they use 24v instead. For niche solution perfect... Can see lineup @ Fortune IT in Bangkok

p.s. Color-changing ring exists in Cisco AP's many years ago :)

  4. The only reasonable thing in this topic is req. for WP, I not remember exactly how much, but according to OP salary offered, this will be around 50k THB, and from this amount tax will be deducted. 50k THB is enough to open WP for European nationality.

For FIRST job here is OK. Year later OP can switch to another company and his working experience here will be valued more.

My first job here was less-payed than OP. That's normal.

er THB 50k salary is for the extension of stay to be issued, not for the WP...there are no minimum requirements to be issued a WP, if there were minimums how would voluteers who get paid nothing be issued a WP ?

According to Ministry of Labor, the minimum salary for professional foreign workers vary from nationality to nationality. How volunteers obtain WP's I don't know, we talk about paid job. As I remember, grade is 60k, 50k, 35k and 25k. Teachers don't have a "salary grade". 60k for US citizens.

OP should do a market research, how much he can cost here. And very important to get first legal job here. Later, when OP obtain local market knowledge, he can move to another company...

  6. In the US, that job would pay about US$70,000 per year plus benefits. 3 weeks vacation, health insurance, etc.

There is a shortage of qualified people in that field in the US right now. Craigslist is advertising for people on their front page right now. Look down and to the left at the green font. Link

This is my field although I retired last year. If I were looking for a job, even considering that I like Thailand, I might take a small pay cut due to cost of living, but I wouldn't look at less than US$50k per year plus annual flights home. Say 125,000 baht pm.

You do, after all, want someone who can actually do it.

Thailand is NOT US. This is a "melting pot", where good pro's exists all the time, and a lot of foreigners live here for years. 125k per month, sounds good. I can sell myself for this money, will relocate from BKK to Phuket, 3-yrs contract, absolutely no annual home flights (Home in Bangkok, I leave my country of origin forever), and even not need work visa, only WP (had NON-O marriage), speak Thai, English and Russian... Working experience 15 yrs...

p.s. I not try to promote myself, just example why approach from "European" "American" vision can be wrong. Good pro will not have the same salary here as in US. I sure, OP can find someone, but as I say before, Phuket will not be an option to look, Bangkok, maybe Chiang Mai.

  7. How much would the same job pay in the UK? GBP £40,000 per year ?

On that basis (with your 40% less) thats GBP£24,000 per year or THB 1,300,00

    Roughly THB 108,000 per month...

For 100 k per month you may be able to find a reasonable Westerner who enjoys living in Thailand and have the right attitude, work ethic and skill set, you will also have work permit issues etc.

For 100 k per month you will be able to find an excellent Thai, fluent in English who'll work hard and have an excellent work ethic and skill set.

For 100 k per month you are placing yourself into the upper education and skill levels...

Or If you don't wish to pay this much, what you are really asking in your opening post is: How little do we think you could get away with paying someone ?

Richard gives perfect answer. The OP question is connected directly to my profession (IT Infrastructure Manager), then I confirm Richard's opinion with one remark - this will be hard to find right person in Phuket. I have two friends, and they own IT company in Phuket, and they tell me they can't find suitable local pro in Phuket. Most of local pros live in Bangkok. Some work in Industrial parks like Rayong/upcountry. But Phuket lack skilled IT pros...

  8. Dear members and OP,

Just to not start another thread, please confirm documents for 1 year marriage extension, Immigration in Bangkok. This is my first extension, a little bit nervous:

    Me:

Passport with current NON-O Visa, obtained in KL (I also keep receipts from KL Consulate).

Bank book with 400k more than 3 month, fixed deposit can be withdrawn with lost interest. Bank statement will be obtained on the day I apply to extension.

    Marriage Certificate (2 documents)

Picture inside home on the sofa

    Picture outside home at entrance

Hand-drawn map to home (in Thai language)

Home registration book (Yellow colour, my own with my name)

    Wife:

    Thai ID

    Home registration book

    Copies of original documents above.

I will apply on 24th this month, this will be about 42 days before NON-O current extension expiration date

Anything correct, or I missed something?

    Thanks!

  9. Why not invite the labour office, Revenue department and immigration to join the facebook group too?

Very funny. I just create an instrument. People can post any work and if they find good candidate, they ask for work permits and apply it, why not?

Tales about WP? If they so stupid to show their web-design-etc backs in such a group, do not be surprised if Immigration check their whereabouts. Until you are "Aviasales" under BOI, better sit quiet and not even show nose in something like this.

  10. thanks for the input guys.

Still curious about the fact that Immigration told me everything was fine? I even told them that a mistake was made and my boss said my Work Permit was canceled. They looked at my Visa and WP and saw the stamp and said I was good. If that's the case, then isn't leaving just going to be a waste of time and money to change my visa to a tourist, and then change it back over again?

What happen in reality - this is possible to remove you from list of company employees and taxpayers . Without touching your visa extension. The best thing you can do now, cancel extension as soon as possible.

  11. Credit card w/o deposit issued only to someone, who WORK. In case you really need this security money - just cancel the card. Your savings account is just a savings and you free to withdraw money anytime, therefore bank not have any power this is why it secure/lock deposit

When you obtain WP, you can withdraw deposit. Maybe bank re-issue your card.

Kasikorn is one of the toughest bank to get secured CC. And really no worth of it, because others do this much more easily.

Anyway, anything about credit history in case of secured card is incorrect. Everyone, who had CC will receive yearly statement from credit history bureau. I got mine two statements for year 2013 just week ago. Security deposit is just a reason to issue for bank scoring system, and not linked to credit history.

It's not true that an unsecured credit card is only issued to somebody who works, I was invited to apply for a Thai Airways Amex Credit Card on the back of my ROP Gold Card, I'm retired and have never worked in Thailand, so don't have a Work Permit, my only income was my UK Civil Service Pension. I applied and my card was couriered a week or so later.

It is true about the Credit Bureau however, I get a print out every year, as I did with a car loan I had a while back.

If we deep into Amex system (which is completely different from OP situation), the Amex is NOT a TH Banking service, even they do their business with BBL together. Amex will issue card for true, if you show savings more than 3 million in Thai Bank. They maybe issue for other reason, like your Pension.... In reality Thai banks will issue Credit cards for foreigners who work only, or able to secure deposit. The most friendly is BBL, foreigner can open CC only with 20k security or with really small salary. Others will ask salaries from 50 to 100k baht.

In my experience, BAY (Krungsri) and BBL (Bangkok Bank) is most friendly. BAY ask only non-imm VISA and security deposit about 50k baht. BBL ask non-imm VISA, home registration and deposit as low as 20k. BAY CC limit is 90% from secured deposit amount, BBL is 100% from deposit amount.
