  1. I did my new extension for marriage on Monday 19th. at Chiangmai.

. I arrived at my bank branch at 0825 and received queue no. 3, by 0845 I was out with my Bank letter and updated bank book and on my way to Immigration .

After photo copying my latest page in the bank book, I went into the building at 0915 and got queue no 6.  The papers had all been examined and the copies of my Tabien Ban Farang and my pink ID which had been required last year were rejected as unnecessary, but all pages of the bank book going back 2 years were wanted.

We were called inside after about 20 mins. and required to sign the SM2 forms again in front of the IO. Then all the pages submitted had to be stamped and signed by both of us in blue ink and we waited again for about 10 mins, then 'i was photographed and the fee paid. we left at 1045. with the " under consideration" stamp.

Total paper submitted was 32 pages x 2. One set for local records and one for HQ.

  2. I am not convinced that this is purely confined to a Linux system, so I am posting in the general IT forum.

I am using Firefox in Linux Mint 20. I had a series of frequently used mini icons at the bottom of my screen and somehow at one stroke managed to delete all of them. I do not know how I did it. I accessed "All applications" and reinstalled them one by one from the menu, but, they have all appeared in a different position on the right hand side bar.

They all bring up the desired programmes as before, but when when I try to minimise a window with a view to recalling it later, clicking on the minimise bar closes the programme completely and I cannot get it back.

What have I done wrong and how can I fix it?

  3. My sister-in-law has an Oppo Smartphone and recently took a few photos which she wanted me to print out. (My prin.ter can do it on to proper photo paper).

No matter what I tried I could not get the phone to talk to my Linux Mint laptop. (It would not talk to a Windows 7 device either) I was using a miniUSB to Computer USB cable.

Please give suggestions and/or guidance on how to overcome this.

Also Grand daughter has an Apple device and I would like it to communicate with my computer.

    I thought he was Greek?

He was Danish, from the house of Schleswig-Holstien-Sonderburg- something. But I am being pedantic as usual.

  5. Golf in Japan is hideously expensive.

I recall helping a couple of Japanese acquaintances fly from Bahrain to Scotland in the 1980s for a 2 week golfing holiday. They stayed in a modest Bed and Breakfast of my recommendation, and liked it, and with the help of a friends of mine played Turnberry (pre Trump), Troon, Prestwick Old and Barrasie. All were championship, even Open courses at that time. In between they played on several Ayrshire municipal courses. The score cards were worth huge prestige back in Japan. The whole trip cost less than a years subscription to a minor club in Japan.

  6. HURRAY, ALHAMDILALLAH, It is now working.

I am not 100% sure how it happened, but I pressed "esc" in the brief period after power on and it brought a number of options accessed by the F keys. I tried them all in turn and  think it was F9 which gave me access to the USB memory stick which I had used to instal Linux in the first place, and I was able to do a completely new clean installation.

Now for the chore of installing the drivers for my printer/scanner and a few other accessories,

MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO TRIED TO HELP.

  7. Something similar happened in UK in the early 1970s. A parcel of books was delivered to my address followed by a demand for an exaggerated payment and a threat of legal action to recover it. Police refused to believe me until a newspaper reported that dozens of people had fallen victim to the attempted extortion. I ignored the demands and handed the package back to Royal Mail. About a year later a law was passed to prohibit the practice.

  8. I have posted a problem in the Linux forum., but I have not received any recommendation for a repair shop in Chiang mai which can fix a problem with a Linux system (all that I have asked have been Windows only). I am posting here to get local knowledge.

  9. I have been able to do a heath check on the Hard Drive and received a 100% result. I have been unable to get into the bowels of the system to try a re install.

I still cannot find a Linux specialist repair expert in Chiang mai.

  10. My local bar in Ayr charges £2.75 (Thb115) for a pint if "Fair Jenny's Jig" a 4.3% pale Ale, made on the premises. Local bar on the outskirts of Chiangmai charges Thb95 for a pint of draft Tiger.

I agree that 100 pipers is a poor, under matured and overpriced whisky.

I would like a 10 year old Talisker or 12 year old Ardbeg. Neither are available in Thailand.
