yeah it's not always smoke.. in fact if you have a meter and you cook at home the meter should go up quite a bit..
mine went up when the lady downstairs (I live on the fourth floor) cooks spicy stuff with oil.

Actually believe above view of Cebu/Philippines to be a bit more negative than it is. Yes Philippines is not Thailand but it is much like Thailand was in years past. That you can not move from island to island with a MC is false - the ferry system connects everywhere. But being first port of call from Canada can understand the feelings - expect they would be less on a visit now. For a good overview of current street walking recommend watching a few videos from Chris in Cebu as he walk streets live several times a week. And indeed it is not a walk friendly city - but then most places in Thailand were less than ideal in the past. I lived in the PI for about 4 years more than 30 years ago and did not find it that unpleasant - but I had lived in Bangladesh/Laos/Thailand/Guinea/Nigeria/Japan/Germany/India prior. It is not for everyone - but those liking beach or English speakers it has pluses.
honestly, if i wanted to defend the place I would have chosen that place too as that is the least offensive side of osmena circle, during the day AND during a holiday (three plus)
of course that dude will only show the nice part of it.. will he "insult" the country by showing the hawkers trying to sell you maps and cialis? he'd probably get deported for that (can't be "rude" anymore, I guess according to that other link earlier)
it's another story when you get out of the more developed part of town and late evenings
regarding the video: I had a look at all his videos thumbnails since he looked familiar and he only seems to walk around the same main areas all the time..
in the video linked below is the smelly Guadalupe River which i had to run over every time I walked by.
go down Vincente Rama after 8pm and walk through North Bacalso (which are main streets) or up around Punta Princesa other smaller streets around night, trust me
here is the proof from his mouth.
this part is literally like a 5 minutes walk from Osmena circle in the video you linked.
30 years ago much different mate

at first I thought it was someone that made a profile with a similar name to make fun of you.
I'm a Canadian too, I've been to the Philippines after a lot of apparently not well done research ended up in Cebu City had plans to stay for 2 months but..
ok, the Ayala Mall was nice, the women looked good.. they spoke good English (that is a major plus, if that is what you are looking for)
Cebu City eww, main part of the city is about 6km wide, I lived practically in the middle of it.. could walk on either end within 30 minutes.. asked local how to get to major mall, no one had idea because they always took the Jeepneys
Jeepneys everywhere, first time in my life when I blew my nose it was grey in color
people trying to sell me maps, cialis, cheap sunglasses every corner.
beggars kids trying to stop me everywhere, they were in bad shape.. trying snatch stuff off me and grabbing at bags.
polluted rivers, never smelled that crap in my life. had to run over certain bridges..
shitty dogs around, not very aggressive but pooping everywhere and ground was dirty all over the place.
it was my first time abroad out of Canada and it made me thing "what did i do? <deleted> am I doing here?" and thinking thailand would be the same..
I was told to not take my phone out in public because it would be snatched.. even if it was like a 100$ piece of crap.
food was not great. oily stuff and junk food everywhere.
wouldn't want to buy a motorbike there just to be stuck on one island.. power outages all the time, internet was rubbish.
stuck using airplanes to go anywhere
I very well know that there are some absolutely beautiful beaches in the Philippines and pristine locations.. but I didn't even want to see any of them just because from my research everyone was saying Cebu was the best bet out of 3-4 other main hubs..
I had to cut my 60 days visit down at 21 days as a self birthday gift
then I get to Thailand, absolutely nothing like the Phils.. the food is fantastic, internet is stable, weather is great. power stays on.
in fact I have traveled a lot in Thailand in the last 5 years and never saw a city as run down as Cebu city
however the big difference here is that the women don't speak anywhere near as good English as the girls in the Phils.
even the well educated ones that I have met here in Thailand you can't joke around with them, jokes go over their head.. they don't understand idioms or play on words. (but act like they do)
someone once told me, "the best thing you can do is to bring a Filipino girl with you to Thailand"
there might be some truth to that.

haven't read every single post but since I have mostly female friends that ask me for advice (and never follow it)
I will say exactly the same thing, don't expect your relationships to get better with time, if it's bad now it will likely only get worse.
I often hear those girls saying "but my parents stayed together for 40 years", I tell them it's not the 80s anymore, people have the internet, facebook and dating websites in the palm of their hands now.
when you have other options you are less likely to stay if you aren't happy in the relationship.

Thank you for this good information. Very helpfull.
In an other post you suggest pigs heart, This is one of the most expansive parts from pig in Thailand. Even very difficult to purchase, as it has a high demand.
I tried now to find "Rumen" (not sure if this is the correct name, it is the first stomach from a cow) But according my wife this is also used, and not same as in my country "waste"
To my understanding it is also healthy to feed dogs, complete, or bigger pieces of meat. So how about feeding a complete chicken? (I suppose without feathers) or a complete fish? Are there then really no problems with the bones and grate?
Arjen.
I don't know, I get pigs hearts for like I think 25 or 30 baht at the local butcher shop. maybe its 50? haven't bought one in a while
I don't know if rumen per say is the "same" as tripe but for me, green tripe was very hard to get from a butcher, they were trying to drive up the price like crazy (ridiculous prices).
to me, that doesn't make much sense because the white tripe they sell at say Makro (and use in soups as far as i know) has to be processed (cleaned, bleached, whatnot) and it's relatively cheap. so, why would it be cheaper to buy processed tripe than raw?
anyways, the white one is useless since they washed off all the stuff that is good for the dogs
https://blog.homesalive.ca/what-are-the-benefits-of-tripe-for-dogs
here's some options for the raw meaty bones (different than what most people would think)

I've ridden a Honda Sonic 125cc for the past 13 years, 20k on the clock. Very reliable, but a bit heavy and on the small side. Good in traffic though, very narrow handlebars.
Something a bit more exciting? The Yamaha MT03 has caught my attention, but it is almost 200k. Then there is a (Yamaha) MT-SLAZ which has similar styling but smaller 150cc engine, not sure of pricing but riding position looks good. Bit boy racer looking, so there is that...????
MT03 yes, M-Slaz no. my ex got an M-Slaz after she went to buy I think an Aerox to replace her PCX and I don't like it at all.
Might as well get a Yamaha Exciter instead of the M-Slaz unless you just like the looks
isn't the Sonic the ones that all the kids were modifying for racing

I had Honda Super Cub before, it's practically 98% a Honda Dream but with different color schemes and a Super Cub badge.
nice bike if you are used to slow bikes.
but for me coming from a 150cc Yamaha Exciter after a Honda CB500F (and before a Honda Wave 125i) then the Super Cub was mostly boring and I sold it because I felt like I would end up dead just expecting it to cross the street faster than it could and getting run over, lol
if you can find a nice second hand PCX for that price, that is a good buy too. they are a bit bulky but nice

yeah, this actually shows up as a different program. it's not a Firefox popup
must be some kind of program that was installed along with another software, if you like to click next next next without reading when installing programs then you get stuff like that
I can't read that language.. looks like Chinese but I'm not 100% sure, look in the control panel under programs and features for something in different language.. also in task manager you should have some program that has its name in regular letters. (or maybe even in Chinese) then you can right click, open file location and then maybe delete it and check in the task manager under startup tab and also maybe services if anything matches the names

you want to search in the 9xxxxxx format (skip the 0), problem is not everyone has this option on.
many girls i know disabled the option to be found by phone number on their Line account.
you need their ID or they need yours (or your phone number if you didn't disable that)
the only issue I have is that if you add them by Line ID, you cannot afterwards see what that ID was anymore so.. that's that.
-
switching from phones should in theory delete all the conversations but keep the contacts.
I lost all my contacts from changing phone numbers from PH phone to TH (because I couldn't confirm the PH phone anymore) so that happens
if you REALLY want to make sure you have all your contacts
you could always get a second phone number as someone else said before.
then you make an account with the 2nd #, friend yourself and share all your contacts with the 2nd account
once everything is transferred you can share your contacts back to yourself from the 2nd account.
this is obviously an annoying workaround but it works.

I believe direct your dog is healthy, I do believe the dog downstairs is less healthy, I do believe your dog is on RAW diet, and does not eat rice, and I do believe that the dog downstairs is on an other diet.
But to say that your way of feeding is "proof in point" is same as saying, "smoking is healthy, because my grandfather started smoking at an age from 8 years, and he died when he was 110 because of a car accident"
We have 16 dogs, they are all on the standard dry food, and one has now health problems, probably caused by food, and some other external factors.
Arjen.
most soi dogs eat the cheapest dry kibble + rice with meat scraps and other various trash
I wouldn't call any of them "healthy" -except the ones that just recently got dumped.
If you have 16 dogs then giving them expensive grain free food would cost you 15,000+ baht per month. it's not a great option (unless you can afford it)
raw meat, organs and bones, well it would depend on if you have a butcher and discounts but it could be much cheaper. (I'd go with that if I could easily.)
mine, Taste of the Wild comes up to about 223 baht per KG, 13kg results in ±3 months for one 30kg dog. 1 cup per meal and 2 meals a day plus bones once in a while (or a pigs heart!) (I don't feed the RAW diet btw)
anyways, here: : http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/index.php/cat/1
Royal Canin which is pushed by veterinarians is a 1 star food too btw: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=1501&cat=7
ingredients in dog food are listed by order of what is used most.
here's the ingredients and then the review for Alpo which is practically the cheapest stuff ever, I assume the Thai cheap kibbles is at best similar but I assume it to be worse
Ingredients: Ground Yellow Corn, Digest of Chicken By-Products, Poultry By-Product Meal, Animal Fat(stabilized with BHA), Lamb Meal, Brewer's Rice, Ground Barley, Soybean Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Whole Chicory Root, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Selenite, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E, A, B12 & D3 Supplements, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Thiamin Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Biotin.
review:
Review Date: Mon March 6, 2006 Would you recommend the product? No | Price you paid?: Not Indicated | Rating: 0
Pros: Cons: Inadequate meat content, by-products, use of low quality grains, fat of unidentifiable origin, carcinogenic preservative.
This food receives a 1 star rating simply because there is nothing lower.
The primary ingredient in the food is corn (it should be meat!). Corn is a problematic grain that is difficult for dogs to digest and thought to be the cause of a great many allergy and yeast infection problems. We prefer not to see this used in dog food.
The next ingredient is by-products. It is impossible to ascertain the quality of by-products and these are usually products that are of such low quality as to be rejected for use in the human food chain, or else are those parts that have so little value that they cannot be used elsewhere in either the human or pet food industries. The AAFCO definition of chicken by-product meal is “a meal consisting of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice.” Digest is material from poultry by-products which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and undecomposed tissue.
The next ingredient if further by-products, this time poultry (unidentifiable source). The AAFCO definition of poultry by-product meal is “a meal consisting of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered poultry, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice.”
Animal fat is a further low quality ingredient and is impossible to determine the source. Unidentified ingredients are usually very low quality. AAFCO define this as "obtained from the tissues of mammals and/or poultry in the commercial processes of rendering or extracting. It consists predominantly of glyceride esters of fatty acids and contains no additions of free fatty acids. If an antioxidant is used, the common name or names must be indicated, followed by the words "used as a preservative".
This food uses chemical preservatives (BHA) which is believed to be carcinogenic, and is banned from use in human food.
Lamb meal is the sole named meat ingredient in the food. At 5th on the ingredient list, this is insufficient to make any appreciable impact on the food.
Brewers rice is a waste product – a spent grain that is a by-product of the alcohol industry. The AAFCO definition is “the dried extracted residue of rice resulting from the manufacture of wort (liquid portion of malted grain) or beer and may contain pulverized dried spent hops in an amount not to exceed 3 percent.”
Soybean meal is a poor quality source of protein in dog food, and a common cause of allergy problems. Some believe that it is the number 1 cause of food allergies in dogs (outstripping even wheat).
Corn appears a second time as corn gluten meal. The AAFCO definition of corn gluten meal is “the dried residue from corn after the removal of the larger part of the starch and germ, and the separation of the bran by the process employed in the wet milling manufacture of corn starch or syrup, or by enzymatic treatment of the endosperm”. In plain English, that which remains after all the nutritious bits have been removed.-

I don't have perfect answer to this but here is mine:
I have found that the only time I was satisfied with veterinarians here is when I went to University ones like Kasetart University does in Hua Hin
I brought my dog there to do teeth cleaning and also a second time to stitch his ears after draining an hematoma. both times they didn't jack the prices or give me nonsense medications
my friends dog had an issue with his eyes which I am pretty sure that his tear ducts were blocked (no tears) and THREE different little local vets just looked, took some stupid little eye drops and some antibiotics.. not expensive but waste of time
antibiotics will not unblock his tear ducts and using the drops is temporary relief.. by the second time I told her "if she just looks at his eyes and goes behind to get some stuff, walk away". but my friend trusts them too much and said "maybe last time I didn't do it properly". absolutely nothing changed and it was a waste of time and money all three time.
I had to bring her dogs for shots at another local one and all three times that we went there, as soon as the dog was in the door they would pick him up and run away to another little office with him.. then do whatever they wanted without asking if it was okay fine and then present a bill.
I got annoyed the first time, asked my friend to tell them that I don't like them doing that and they should ask first.
he had some hair missing on the head with some scabs: i made the mistake of asking if they THOUGHT it was mange.. they took the dog away, came back after cutting a bit of his skin off his head, said it wasn't mange and charged me for it (30 seconds, 100 baht) and then wanted to try to sell me some kind of 450 baht medicine.
it seems my friend doesn't like confronting them or telling them not to do that.. she kept saying "you think too much" and talk too much so I told her that she should pay for it then since I was doing all this for her (otherwise the dog wouldn't have his shots)
last time, she listened to me, told them to tell me upfront what the cost would be and what they are doing.. rabies shot 280 baht (can't remember exactly) then I said OK, they do it. I pay and bye.

rest still stands, with a BKK Bank Thai customer with you, they would likely make an account for ya

it's only "perfectly okay for dogs" if you want them to be sick
dogs need meat. never saw dogs raid a rice field
if you care about your dogs health you will either feed them raw meat, organs and bones
or
you will get them meat/fish based grain free food (that is right, NO rice). vegetables and fruits is fine. (Taste of the Wild, Orijen, etc) will cost you 2900 baht or so for 13kg bags, good for around 3 months each (on my 30kg BT)
proof in point is the Pit Bull that lives downstairs for me, about 4-5 years old by now.
my 9 years old Bull Terrier always had grain free food and raw meaty bones his whole life and never had a single health issue
vs
her dog that is half his age and is fat, loses hair, has 10 different health issues and looks like cancer on legs. getting fed rice and table scraps and cheapest dry food around
trust me she pays more in veterinarian visits than I pay for food

I have read about 50% of this thread so forgive me if anyone mentioned this
I got an account at Bangkok Bank using a tourist visa.. but I HAD to have a Thai national come with me and I can't recall if she had to have an account with Bangkok Bank (probably did).. she showed her ID and bank stuff, signed some paperwork and they set me up (i think it's part of the text you made a circle around)
my 2nd account with Kasikorn a few weeks back I went with the Thailand Elite guys.. everything was fine but no one told me that they wanted 20,000 deposit.. I didn't have the cash on hand but borrowed it.. the next day gave it back 555
without the money they would absolutely not budge. I reported that to the Thailand Elite guys and then a few days later I think they said they would not offer that service anymore (assisting with Kasikorn accounts)-- probably my fault.
