With transferwise borderless you can have an account in many different currencies, and generally you get charged when you transfer from one currency to another and you can hold in any currency that you want (out of the currencies that they offer).

So you could collect GBP on your transferwise borderless GBP account and then convert them to THB and transfer them to THB in one step. Or you could also create a borderless account in THB (not sure if they offer it), and always when money is going in the GBP account convert it to THB and store it on your THB borderless account until you transfer it to your Thai bank account.

But the second way doesn't make much sense because the effective fees for the many small conversions will be higher than for one conversion with an higher ammount

I just emailed them but you might know the answer to this

if I am a Canadian but have no utility bills or whatever is it still possible to make a borderless account or would they ask for some kind of paperwork

or maybe ask for paperwork from Thailand?

I put that I was from Canada (probably a mistake) and they started asking for utility bills and blablas..

but I was only made aware of the borderless account this morning.. when I went with a different email to put thailand to check it out it told me I already had an account.

wondering if i should be deleting that account and making another one as living in thailand or if they would STILL ask for Canada paperwork or maybe the Thai one would be fine.

only asking cause yesterday I read about this, related to the Bangkok Bank ACH changes in 2019 (just in preparation) as I assume my bank will be like "we can't do those IAT blabla because you are just transfering to the US" or other nonsense

After living here now for 3 years you most certainly have no clue what 500 b will get you.

    It is called firm negotiations.

Seems a shame after over 7,000 posts.  I hope at some point you can figure it out....

It is a pretty darn good place if one knows what they are doing.

I have much less than 7000 posts but been living here 5 years and I have seen what 500 b can get you

I never went to bars or looking for it but on a recent trip to Mueang Chon Buri (not Pattaya) my friend and her family took me on a sidecar trip looking for food and she kept pointing at women and saying "500 baht, you want?"

They know I never drink or frequent bar girls and slowed down right next to them just to annoy me. the girls were quite good looking to be honest, sitting on their motorbikes on the side of the street ready to follow anyone that would pay them to go home with  and they have their own way back too.

It seems that the best thing to do is order from Malaysia and pay the import duty, if I recall correctly others paid about 45k doing it this way. It works out much cheaper than you would be able to buy a new machine in Thailand. I paid 58k for my first and 53 or 54k for my son's machine in Thailand. The Malaysian people are AvironRacing. Their website does not seem to be working but you can contact them via their facebook page. I bought a heart monitor from them via facebook with no problems.

yep aviron racing is selling them,

only thing i didn't like is TNT wanted to take away my passport for a "few days" while they apply for me for some kind of importers permit..

Definitely no keeper. She has txt me, more or less saying...since I didn't buy her a phone during her lunch break she doesn't want to meet me again !

I txt her back suggesting a generous monthly income  (purely a test), and now suddenly she's back on board asking what she will have to do for the money.

My cynicism will slowly grow...she's a greedy c***.  I suggest avoiding managers of makeup stores in T21!

I wouldn't buy her a phone even if she stayed with me for 3 months and didn't "charge" anything ?

that story about 70% on phone is a good hint if she will bore you easily or not so, great that you don't put up with it

It's called 4K You Tube to MP3. In preferences can d/l in 3 formats: MP3, M4A, and OGG. MP3 has 4 settings: original, 320, 256, 128. I've currently got it on 320, but will follow your advice and put it on "original". There's also a setting for Intensity: 4 settings - safe 1 thread, stable 3 threads, optimal 5 threads, and risky 7 threads. I don't really know what this is about but have it currently on optimal 5 threads.

those are almost word per word the exact settings I have on mine but different name for app. the thread things is how many videos/songs you can download at the same time, if you put it to 7 it will download too many at a time youtube might temporarily block you from accessing

not going to hear the difference without some real expensive headphones and a much better player like a Cowon Plenue D (my particular choice) but certainly not over a laptop, car speakers or ipods

if storage space is not an issue, keep the proper 320 albums. if storage is an issue you can convert to 192 (from 320 only).

I get the odd singles off youtube sometimes, not very easy to get a single song off something like tpb

OK, good answer. I knew that converting lower bitrate to higher bitrate doesn't improve quality. So d/l at "original quality" is way to go. Thanks, I'll do that.

Most of the albums I d/l from music sharing blogs are LPs and CDs that collectors rip themselves, most are done at 320, but many others come at various bitrates. Many in recent times have moved over to flac, but the much larger files means more HDD space and more time spent d/l. As you point out, I don't have the ears or gear to tell the diff, so remain with MP3.

nothing wrong with MP3. if size is an issue I would likely even convert most of those to 192kbps myself.. I don't have the $1000 headphones to be able to hear the 0.5% difference that those audiophiles claim to hear

I don't know if we were talking about the same software tho, mine is called "4k Video Downloader" so if you don't find what I meant in there (you said 4K YouTube to MP3 to previous poster) then that's why

technically speaking Youtube is not the best place to get the music from (quality wise) but it's more than fine most of the time, depends on the source etc.

I convert 320kbps MP3s back to 192 myself all the time..

Yes, I have thought about that, even though I have limited knowledge of these matters. So what do you suggest when d/l music from UT, what's the optimum way to d/l the music as an mp3 file?

I think you said you were using 4K Downloader earlier so you can use the "original" quality when you click extract audio at the top left when you paste the link in.

clicking the high quality makes no difference in quality, just bigger files.

I have tested to make sure downloaded some 4K big production video file and the Vorbis audio file in there was 128kbps

that program is well worth paying for to be honest, you can download whole playlists or channels with one click. 15$ that's it

now regarding the quality question, a CD ripped at 320kbps would be better quality than a say 128kbps or 192kbps rip yes but if you rip your CD at 128kbps and then CONVERT it to 320kbps it actually degrades the quality.

to be honest 99% of the people don't have the ears or gear to be able to hear the difference between 128 and 320.. 192 would be a better choice if you really think you can

Downloading path of exile now. Diablo 3 was very repetitive.

couldn't get into Path of Exile to be honest i tried a few times and it bores me.
didn't like Diablo 3 from the get go.. it's "better" now but nowhere near where it should be compared to Diablo 2

the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing too is pretty good.. not free tho

however, Grim Dawn is mostly excellent.. but again, not free.

Thanks I just d/l it and installed and tested, I got an mp3 file at 320kbps, so this seems to be what I've been looking for. I'll test it later over the next couple days. So far looking good.

doesn't matter if you want 320kbps or not, pretty sure that Youtube audio is using either 126kbps AAC in an mp4 container, or between 50kbps and 156kbps in a WebM container.

converting it from "whatever" to 320kbps does absolutely nothing, you are actually losing quality, you can't create more than they give you.

  12. personally, I paid much more for better computer but if you are asking if the price is too high then you likely do not even know what you are getting

it's a fine machine but I would do the following:

get a better power supply. never even heard of "Cougar" PS, lol

ditch the Windows 10 and get it elsewhere, can easily be gotten on ebay as other have mentionned for 10-15$ but very easily under 1500 baht

ditch office home whatever it is (probably office 365 home?) unless you ABSOLUTELY need it,

if you just need a word processor/excel/powerpoint you can use OpenOffice for free and it's practically the same. this similarly I can get for 1500 baht, probably cheaper on eBay

use the difference to buy a proper case, ac powered speakers - none of that just speakers and to computer weak stuff (or headphones), keyboard and mouse (none seem to be listed on there) and a UPS.. you will want the UPS for the crappy electric they use here even if its small one

the prices he is giving you seem to be market prices but that motherboard seems to be the cheapest available (b360m is very vague to be honest)

I been doing builds all my life.. if you need some assistance you can PM me.

I was quoted a marked price for a Panasonic Lumix camera of 17,000 at Central World, Rachaprasong. Bought the exact same camera Pantip's AV Center for 13,900. I just took it on a warranty repair because I accidentally killed it it (another story).

At a 3,000 baht lesser quote I didn't haggle at the AV Center and knew better than to try to haggle at too upscale (for me) Central. IMHO, bargains are where one finds them, marked price or not.

you need to know what something is worth firsthand then.

you see the Panasonic Lumix, use your phone to look up the price online then see that it's worth like 15,000 (or even lower) then walk away from Central World.

even better if you know already what you want and what its worth..

I had a laugh in the Mall Bang Kapi when I was looking at some Nintendo Switch in there but the price was already over Lazada, they had this bundle with one game that was like 1000 baht more than if you bought the system and the game separate (in the same shop)

I asked the guy and he just shrugged.

point is, 90% of the time you can get the things you are looking for cheaper online because they have no overhead, no renting an overpriced spot in some fancy mall

this is exactly why those places are going out of business.. camera shops have a hundred older models that really most people do not want. they will never discount them because they paid 10,000 baht for it they want 10,500

but why would you buy this camera at this shop for 10,500 if you could get it online for 5000? there's a reason why this old camera is there and will still be there in 5 years.

Today I decided enough was enough. I'd quit wasting my time with Tinder and Thai friendly, stop being a wimp and just cold approach. There aren't enough attractive shop assistants so it has to be complete strangers.  Spent a hour prowling T21, then saw her eating sushi alone, looking dam hot and scarily aloof. I took a deep breath and pounced, completely f***ing it up and she chuckled at my embarrassment. Still I handed her a business card, wished her a good day and 2 hours later she added me on line !

Then I got cocky and tackled a few more at Thonglor bts. This is the way to go....

haha. I'm getting business cards made at some point.. I been bothering my graphic designer friend to do them for months.. it takes him literally minutes but I haven't pushed him enough I guess!

i'm interested in the outcome and if you feel its better than the regular thaicupid results.

It is convenient, and suits certain people with influence.

If you are stateless, you end up in a pool of labour ripe for exploiting, miserable wages, no access to any labour rights, minimum wage not applied and so on.

That labour force represents significantly reduced costs, particularly in construction and agriculture.

    Reduced costs mean greater profits.

    Greater profits means more influence...

Nothing will change. The beaurocrats in khaki are owned.

indeed, I have a Burmese friend who was born in Thailand from 2 Burmese parent now  24 years old, went to university in Chiang Mai.. god knows why as she can't get a proper job anywhere because she is not Thai.

she is technically locked into living in Mae Hong Son and cannot go anywhere without a pass of some sort.

absolutely zero paths to being citizen or even getting a passport as both sides reject her (she never lived in myanmar).

rough. she did nothing to deserve this.

perhaps. she should have went to that cave too /s

  16. anyone that has one of those cards actually read the terms and conditions to see the REAL limits of the plan (likely called fair use limits)

asking because I used to have something similar to this, was slower than 4mpbs but I used it on my computer (tethering) and even if they said "unlimited" my speed ended up being so slow that it was slower than dialup (literally unusable)

when I called about it they said it was unlimited BUT after X would go to Y speed and that speed was ... crap.

none of those plans are literally unlimited, they all have a fair use clause

I think my phone has dual sim and I might be interested in getting something like that, however if their fair use limits are low then its rubbish (for me). 4mbps is 500 KB/s maximum, minimum is 0 KB/s ?

    restrictions of a young child

    seriously, this.

I got the snip a few years back and have issues if i mention it to women because they want kids so much.. a 31 year old lady refused to talk to me because she wanted a kid.. I told her by the time she would get pregnant and her kid get to 18 years old she would be 50.

anyways, those women have NO idea the amount of restrictions, responsibility and changes to relationship such as intimacy etc that having a kid does.. I was 18 years old when I had my son (not an accident), sadly 9 years later me and the ex gf broke up but hey.. I am well aware of the changes and they are not.

yet they act like they know everything about it. truth is that if you were to give a small child to most of them to take care alone for a week they would probably quit after 3 days.
