They did this in Quebec Canada. All chemicals pesticides are banned for consumer use. Exception is golf course and farmers. I got the certification needed with my horticulture degree. I will never use these chemicals and refused a job because of this. During an internship I learned that they were looking for someone to replace the last guy that sprayed pesticide because he was dying of cancer.

There is plenty of alternative that are safer. Chemicals pesticides are dangerous even with protection and are counter-productive in the long run. I've seen how they use it in Thailand and they don't use any protection and they think that more is better. When they are done they throw the empty containers around the fields.

You have a Horticulture degree and you don't know the difference between a pesticide, a herbicide and a fungicide?

The wait is for immigration to do their checks and a background check. For those from some countries it take much longer than others.

I have seen reports of it only taking less than a month for those from western countries.

You can do the application online and by email.

If approved and the fee is paid you can get the visa when arriving at Suvarnabhumi (BKK).

Not much difference between applying out of or in the country. It will still take the same amount of time.

You can also get it at Chaeng Wattana as a friend of mine did.

The following statement says it all " ....... THAI has a policy to allow passengers to pay more.... " I, never ever, heard anything more arrogant than this statement with is most befitting to the rest of this flying club of corruption, inefficiency and cheating.
The pictorial proof of inflight "food" is something I would not even expect in a jail or as pet food. Since 1992, when Chatichai Boonya-Ananta turned 60 and was "invited" to retire as too many people did not like his professional, clear cut and Western-trained management style ....... the airline went down the toilet in free fall.

Have not flown TG for more than ten years as there are considerably more professional alternatives as far as service, schedule, reliability or pricing is concerned.

In closing I found a very philosophical statement by a fellow Thai passenger on Singapore Airlines last week mind-boggling, who claimed that "Thai Airways is a perfect mirror of the rest of the country" and hence does not reflect any surprises ..........

Reminds me of years ago sitting in a telephone office in Naklua waiting my turn to apply for a telephone landline. A Thai fellow walked in and went up to the counter and had a lengthy conversation with the person at the counter. I could tell that the Thai gentlemen was getting frustrated with the counter person's responses and finally he gave up and came and sat down beside me. He looked at me, shrugged his shoulders and said:" T I T

This is Thailand" . I was shocked in hearing this coming from a Thai.

Honestly for me and most of my friends here, all under 50, unmarried, and running online businesses, the best "visa" now is simply a different country.

Only the Elite Visa makes any sense for me. I was denied on the basis of an accidental 2 day overstay lol.

Kind of crazy when I spend far more money here than the average retiree as well as speak and read the language fluently.

194 other countries to choose from though! I will be leaving next month ????

Are you serious? They denied your Elite Visa application because you once had a 2 day overstay?

Some dumb@$$ who can't see a car.  I would be mad also.  How do you hit a parked car?

Happened to my ex-wife. She parked her car outside her favorite hair dresser and some local clown came along on a scooter with one of those home made sidecars and ran into the car. She heard the bang and ran outside to confront the guy. Cop came along and she ended up having to pay the goof on the scooter for damages to his ride. And she is Thai.......?

It is actually not normal to get a 1 year stamp at a border crossing. It's i think 30-90 days usually according what Thai Elite tells one.

I was on Langkawi and wanted to go back via the Sea into thailand, that's what they told me - took a flight then as the 30 days weren't enough

I have crossed land borders several times with mine. Some officers have had to check with fellow officers upon seeing the Elite Visa but once they have done so, I always get 1 year.

Kloster was the higher priced beer, your other choice being Singha, back in the 80's. Singha and Kloster beer, mekong and soda, were the popular beverages. Sangsom was here just not as popular back then . Kloster was phased out in the 90's  ... why ? maybe some posters can enlighten?!

BTW - AT Siam Square in Bangkok where the "Siam Discovery" building now is, used to be an open area and in the dry season  say November on it was the Kloster beer garden, mid 80's. Nice place & good times.

Strange factoid - you get these old timer threads here on TV, there is one on Old Time Chiang Mai floating around. Kloster beer is notable by its absence, Mekong is mentioned but not all that much ... I wonder when I read these posts, did some of these ot's get there decades mixed up. uh em.

I remember when the two popular Thai "whiskeys" were Mehkong and Sang Thip. When Sang Thip was phased out, in came Sang Som. In my opinion, Sang Thip was much better than Sang Som.

Jools did big plates of decent nosh. But the downstairs sometimes felt like you were intruding into a private club. The Londoner was good too, in the old location. How the **** could they turn The Londoner into a 7-11.

Sitting in Jools one night in the early nineties near the back at the bar eating my roast beef dinner and in walks this ~30ish year old Thai lady by herself and sits down at the bar near the door. The bar is full. She reaches up and rings the bell buying a drink for everyone. Then she orders the full rack of ribs and proceeds to eat the whole works. Rings the bell one more time, finishes her drink, pays the bill and walks out. Ahh, those were the days.
