Why wait ? The problem is obvious and everyone knows it. Time for instant solutions to be carried out NOW ! Get the police of their ars#s and use the laws in place for dangerous road users. The biggest problem is the lazy police!
No point. First you must replace the entire RTP, top to bottom, with foreign trained, well paid and incorruptible police officers.
To do THAT, you must replace the top three layers of Thai society with similar.
It will never happen. Be honest, as a farang living here, you actually like many of the freedoms afforded you by the lawless and corrupt system in presently in place.....otherwise you would leave.

There is no way I would ask the kids to cycle, walk, crawl, hop etc to the school on a bendy road that encourages drivers to speed - That's being a decent parent and as I don't live there I really do not have any say.
And why does the school not have the funds? Because the principal has embezzled most of the funds, such as are left after the minister has embezzled the funds, such as are left after his Big Boss has embezzled the funds.
Stop the flow of corruption and there would be plenty for school buses. There might even be enough left to educate the teachers to educate the children, who could then educate the parents.

She could always rent it out by the month. It doesn't have to be airbnb or nothing. I don't want airbnb in my condo particularly as people treat places differently when they are on holiday as opposed to living there. Parties in the pool for example when the people who live there want to swim.
There is an obvious answer for all these wannabe hoteliers. Rent out the room on a 32 day contract, but who cares if you leave earlier. So long the money is paid up-front, no problem. If you don't get out at the REAL appointed time.......who knows or cares what happens to you.
Just saying. I hate them all too...!

Just another one of those "only in Thailand" things.
Like trying to improve road safety by raising speed limits. Or mayonnaise on pizza.
You've got to wonder whether some Thai people in authority are actually sentient, or are just biological machines going about their day on reflexes and instincts alone, like insects.
That is a deadly slur on insects.

Well written, Andrew.
My wife and I were on PhiPhi at the time, and got ourselves to Bangkok. Andrew was GM of a large hotel at the time, and he and his staff helped us enormously, and several others in considerably worse state than ourselves.
He probably won't remember, but we were with him in his car when he was stopped by police for an illegal right turn. My foot was in a bandage, injured by exposed rebar.
"Quick", he said, "put your foot out of the window!" whilst explaining to the cop that he was transporting tsunami survivors. He got off with it.
Thank you again Andrew for all your help.

The water coming out of the well was clear enough to drink right out of the tap
I suggest you invest 200ish baht in a "TDS" meter from Ali Express.
THB 142.11 6%OFF | Digital TDS Meter Aquarium Pool Water Quality Testing Pen Water Purity Filter Accurate Monitor TDS Temp Meter watertest meter
https://a.aliexpress.com/dnrWDCPAnything less than 50 is reckoned ok to drink. Our well water reads 400, and rots out or precipitates calcium and rust on everything.

In my opinion, Christmas in most Western countries is 99% commercial, the grand sales opportunity of the year. Thailand merchants play the Christmas tunes and put up some fake decorations just to cash in on this commercial event. I don't blame them; it's called marketing.
I strongly recommend this link:-

First, it very much depends on where you are entering Thailand. If you have little previous history of tourist visits to Thailand, you will almost certainly be able to get two back-to-back visa exempt entries by air (both extended) followed immediately by two back-to-back visa exempt entries by land (both extended) for a total of about eight months unbroken. On the other hand, if you have already spent six months unbroken in Thailand using tourist visas, you might be denied entry on a first visa exempt entry by air, and (if the first is extended) almost certainly face denial at most airports on a further back-to-back visa exempt entry by air.
If maxing your time on visa exempt entries, it is highly unlikely that you would be able to get six visa exempt entries by air in a 12 month period. If using frequent visa exempt entries, immigration on entry will look at your total time in country, together with other factors. The decision on whether to treat you as a tourist will vary greatly depending on the airport used, and to some extent on the individual official. There are no hard and fast rules, only relative risks.
Am I alone in thinking that the complex arithmetical calculations described here are way beyond the computational ability of your average immi officer - especially under pressure with a busy queue?
No, they just make it up as they go along!

We tried a Thai fresh frozen turkey last year. It was quite inedible, tough as old boots and very little white breast meat. It ended up in the bin, and we had beef wellington for new year, American beef!

Really? I haven't been back for a while, but that seems like a step on a level with Brexit! Nevertheless, my story is true, for what it's worth...not much, I know.
Btw, what do they have now?

Off topic I know, but in uk we have round tax discs, and it's an offense not to display.
I renewed my disk, but due to a brain fart I put it in the holder backside foremost. And got a ticket.
My defense was succesful. The law says it must be displayed. It DOES NOT say it must be displayed the right way round!

Mmm now where can I get my Thai copy proof read? I am generaly both a cautious and trusting person but I believe this happens.
Any competent and unassociated translation service should do it, about 400 - 1000 baht per A4 page. Or, try Google translate, or a teacher.

They have a Thai lawyer and an Australian partner. The Australian is joint executor with my brother back in the UK, nothing can be done without joint agreement. Cost of probate at the court will of course incur a legal fee, in the region of 20 to 30k, which I find acceptable. Access to my Thai bank account should be complete in a week or two. I make sure her account has enough to tide her over when the worst happens.
My UK assets are covered by a completely separate will there, with my brother as executor with instructions to sell property etc. and arrange transfer to my wife when sold.
An aged friend decided to make a new will. Thai lawyer with farang "paralegal" associate. He was given two copies, one in Thai and an English translation. The English version was in accordance with his stated wishes, and he was happy with it.
Nasty suspicious person that I am, I advised him to get an independent translation of the Thai version (the only one that is legally valid).
He did so. In the Thai version the lawyer had written himself in for 30% of the estate, plus the residue after fixed legacies paid. He stood to get about 400,000,000baht!
Never ever trust a lawyer, of any nationality.

He is a man, always has been and always will be, its called Chromosomes he has XY that makes him a male. I have no problem with people who think that they were born with the wrong body, and would call them she if they want, however it is stupid to call a gender they. Minority rule on the way. I was born in 1946, but i want everyone to know that i am 35, OK?
Actually, if not a "he" or a "she", "they" should be called "it". Now shoot me for being politically incorrect.

Does "they" think anyone cares about "they"? It amazes me that talentless self obsessed nonentities can attract so much attention, and money.

Ah.....its been said before but JC was the best leader the Tories have ever had.
Johnson was gifted a victory at the polls because Cornbyn and his friends failed to understand that hard left policies just won't wash with the home owning , holiday abroad, two car working class families any more.
I was not aware that Jesus was ever a conservative, an mp, or a prime minister?

Do you think Pattaya water doesn’t circulate Koh Larn? I mean it’s only 7.5 k away.
Not just Pattaya water. Laem Chabang water. Si Racha water. Pakong, Chaophraya river waters. In fact, all sewers empty eventually into the Gulf.
Not to mention effluents from shipping at KhoSiChang - bilge water, ballast, and oil.
The water in my toilet is cleaner than any in the gulf north of Sattahip/Hua Hin

Being an American I feel America needs to be defended, but as usual our so called friends are late as usual... So why would it bother anyone that someone has the ability to protect himself and others if need be. With America's 2nd Amendment it has armed it self against all enemies foreign and domestic... If you want to ban something that is causing needless loss of lives, oh I dare say SPEECH itself...
Q. Against what do you need a gun to defend yourself?
A. Against another person with a gun.
Q. Why does that other person have a gun?
A. To protect himself against another person with a gun,
Or,
A. To commit illegal acts, (unspecified)
Or,
A. He thinks it's cool to own a deadly piece of machinery whose only purpose is destructive.
Maybe the solution has nothing to do with allowing or disallowing the possession of guns, especially handguns. Maybe the answer is to disallow the manufacture, distribution, advertising, and general glorification by way of entertainments, of guns: with dire penalties for those who profit from such trade. Including governments!
