I shall try 1 time to explain my point - the left, whether it be in the UK, US, Canada always bang the drum for minorities either based on colour, race, culture or sexual orientation. This is called virtue signalling. But when the left are having a change of leadership, and have the chance to elect someone from any of the above categories, they flatter to deceive each time. Yet another white male has taken the place of a white male, both regarded as privileged in todays world as long as it suits? The reply was a link basically saying how many women are in congress in the states, not relevant whatsoever.

Of course I understand how the voting system works, members of said party vote for THEIR next leader, just like the Tories did with BoJo, who doesnt know that? Im 52 so please dont patronise me ???? smiley emoji for your benefit. What you are missing is that with all the drum banging the left do about minority oppression, when they have a chance to back up their virtue signalling they fail everytime. That was the point of my OP. If you read any comments by me in previous topics, I do not avoid debate, I just refuse to be drawn into conversations about things I havent said or have been misread by other members ???? another happy emoji to show you Im not ranting ????
I cant offer you any more of my time as I feel it would be wasted like the last 15 minutes have been. Have a fantastic day

Do you really think Thailand ...and more this Thai Gov. Can afford this for themselves for 2 years ...

I am sure not as they even could not enforce a big group returning Thailand to go in organised 14 day quarantine just now posted on TV.....under the naming rebellion at Suvharnaboumi

I am quite sure that "the T*** government" has sufficient funds to see themselves through for many may years.........no matter what happens.

  3. I have the dubious privilege of surviving the Tsunami on Koh Phi-Phi.

It is interesting to compare the performance of officialdom in the two emergencies. In the Tsunami, temporary passports were dished out at the drop of a hat, evacuation flights provided, bureaucratic immigration requirements suspended or ignored, and everyone, everywhere, was helpful and concerned - even in Bangkok, miles from any danger or damage. The Thai military, police, and provincial authorities, and even the telephone companies, did everything possible, and more, to aid those affected.

Covid is the opposite. Inept, bungling, wrong-headed bureaucracy, indecisive management, and rampant xenophobia, tempered with greed and ignorance.

Come on Thailand: you can do better.

Come on, Embassadors, Consuls: so can you.

  4. I went to Makro yesterday, got everything I needed except copy paper. The aisle was blocked off, and the stock wrapped up.

I went to BigC, similar, but I asked one of the staff if I could have a pack of paper.....she went and got it for me with a smile, no problem at all!

  5. Admitedly not Thai notes, but I had a thousand or so GBP refused by an exchange shop, because they had ink scribbles, pencil marks, rust from paperclips, and even felt-tip indelible ink on them.

I set out to launder the money, literally, using alcohol, neat household bleach, mek, acetone, thinners, and even scraping carefully with a knife. Once all traces of the marks were gone, I pressed them with a steam iron, at the hottest setting. Not one single note looked anything other than perfect at the end, and I seriously doubt that any virus could survive such treatment.

Pity money laundering is illegal........please don't dob me in!

Enlighten me, why do you think it's wise to go on a bus these days?

There's a lot people could do by themselves, all without the government having to tell them. Avoiding bus travel would be high on my list of things to avoid!

Quite simple, I had to visit a government department in person,  their requirement not mine. I would be quite happy never to go there.

  7. Went to Jomtien immigration yesterday afternoon.....never seen it so busy! I Have a visitor, a Spanish kid who was at united in Guangzhou. He arrived in Thailand in February, went to Krabi and overstayed, 11 days total. I advised nhom to go to Krabi immigration and sort it.  He did but could not afford the fine and extension! So they let him go, at that point only 8 days overstay.

He got the bus to Bangkok and Pattaya, I picked him up and took him to Jomtien. They looked at everything, and insisted first a TM30 (23 ahead in the queue, but I did it online, and got the confirmation printed next door (50 Baht) , a photo (another 50), Photocopies (10), got the queue ticket for extention (38 ahead! ), got sent to Overstay (11 days@ 500 = 5500Baht) no concessions given! ) and 2½ hours later got an extension for 30 days.....from his original visa date, no concessions even though we asked. Another 1900 baht. So he's fixed, until 6th April. He can't go back to China and he can't go back to Spain, his credit card is lost and his debit card maxxed out. So, the Bank of Mum and Dad is going to have to transfer some money to me, so I can top up his finances. But they are locked down in Spain.

    It's a mess!

  8. Yes Yes Yes!

Zero problems with fibre, landlines you are at the mercy of TOT, CAT and the rest of the alphabet soup providers, and in my case, the incompetent chans at our mu ban, to whom the aforementioned delegate line maintenance! Fortunately they neither have nor understand the equipment necessary to join optical fibre cables, so they don't tinker.

This after two months of my landline being connected to some other bustards' phone, running up premium numbers, while I have no service!

  9. My impression is that all the above posts concern falang/thai marriages.

My case is different....falang/falang marriage.  We used to do the income thing, until it became too difficult (embassy letters etc.) then we deposited 800k each, and had separate retirement visas. Each time we renewed, we were asked, separate or marriage. Each time we replied separate, no problems.

We realised, however, that actually we needed only one 800k, if we went for marriage. We did this for two years, and by chance avoided the catch 22 that 2x400 doesn't hack it...one needs 800k, the other needs 0k.

Last year, they made a mistake.. both extensions were marked as retirement. This year, that mistake was spotted. 2minutes hannah-hannah, stamp in the passport to change it, then renewal done without hassle...if you don't count an hour waiting in the queue.

Paperwork was minimal. Application forms, photos, passport copies, marriage cert notarised, yellow book, pink cards, bank letter, passbook copies.

All this, Jomtien one week ago.
