Related to this I suppose, I like the way in Scandinavia they put the street name first and then the number. And not only in Scandinavia but other European countries too, if memory serves. Totally logical, as first you need to know what the street is called before moving on to find the property.

Well what about the Thai method? How any delivery person ever finds the destination is a mystery to me.

Sometimes it's a mystery to them too......stuff doesn't make it, or needs a dozen phone calls plus Google maps.

It's rather invasive.  How well do you heal at your age?  That's the question you'll need to ask yourself as the last thing you want to happen is not healing well, getting an infection, and......that's not a good position to be in at 81.  But if you're super healthy, young as spry as a 61 year old, then maybe yes.  Ask yourself that question and go with your intuition.

If you are taking blood-thinning medication, e.g. warfarin, make sure:-

    a. that the dentist knows you are taking them,

    b. that he understands the associated risks (many it seems do not),

    c. that he advises you to stop taking them a few days before surgery....with specialist medical advice if necessary.

I know  an octogenarian who nearly bled out in bed, the night following initial implant surgery. The  dentist was told about his medication, but did nothing to address the risk. Poor professional training.

  3. A couple of days ago, Mrs Grusa got an SMS from our bank, telling her her credit card was expiring at the end of the month, that a new one had been posted out on September 2nd, and giving a tracking number.

Sure enough, her card does expire when stated. I followed up the tracking number, on both 17track and Thailand Post, both said the same thing: the package was despatched on 2nd June from Samurai Prakan, tracked through LakSi, and delivered and signed for on 8th June, in Khlung. Which, by the way is in Tray province.... we live in Sattahip!

The following day I checked again, all that detail remained, plus a new entry, despatched from Samut Prakan 02/09. So, I wondered, does Thailand Post recycle its tracking numbers?

Today I got a similar SMS from the bank for my credit card, with a different tracking number. Same story, same dates, but this one delivered to Tha Mai.... Chantaburi province, I think. And again, a new despatch date corresponding to the SMS.

I have never before encountered a re-used tracking number. Is this common, and how long does the expired meta-data persist? It seems very poor security. And coincidence two items to two separate people, but from one financial institution......

Thanks for advice about the thinning of the first coat.

    Two coats to start with.

Then, later, maybe add a third when needed...in the future.

If you are going to use multiple coats, they should be applied within quite a short time of each other... how long should be specified on the tin. Leaving it too long, they will not bond, and will peel.

Years ago we had Termites in a Table...   (the wood they made the table from already had termites) the table was swapped out without issue.

Thus, I'm aware termites 'could' be an issue, but I've been here a long time and this is one example I have heard of (amongst myself and friends etc), so I don't think termites are a concern in the towns and cities unless getting cheap furniture where the wood has not been treated.

I don't think an IKEA kitchen is at risk of termites if installed in an indoor kitchen in Bangkok, Pattaya etc and it certainly looks better than the 'brick' built units (just an opinion of course).

I think the termite debate is fairly moot unless building a kitchen open to the elements.

Termites are not the worst enemy of Ikea fitted furniture. Maids and bug-killing companies are! They will flood the floor and skirtings etc., causing the mdf to swell.

Make sure to seal all edges and joints with foil tape. Ensure units are not mounted so no wood touches the floor.... if it does, seal with mastic.

Properly done, it will last the warranty period. Done "thai style" it won't. There are people around who are expert at modifying and fitting this stuff, but they can't advertise!

If the lady couldn't lift her bag into the storage, why did she not ask one of the other members of her group? Or should I say why didn't the men in her group offer to do it for her?

I guess because they expect someone below them in status to do it. The 'servant' told her to do it herself and she couldn't handle that.

As the weight limit for cabin baggage is 7 kilos (555) and the size limit is quite small, I am amazed at what people in general, and Thais in particular, think what they candidates and mostly do get away with.

Just broken my existing progressive glasses I bought from a rather overpriced Thai chain shop, so wanted the same order online from Zenni who charge about a quarter the price.

** As I am not experienced can someone tell me if I got the prescription correctly input please? The first (Duna) image above is from Thai shop and works well for me. Below that is what I input on Zenni. The PD of 66 seems to be a carry over from some reading glasses I had from Zenni but the Duna card does not mention PD at all so I left it at 66 on Zenni. So did I get it all OK and I can go ahead with order?

    Thanks

You have insufficient data to complete the order. You need your½pd's, which are specific to you, and your OC heights, which are specific to the combination of you and the particular frame. Inattention to these details will be an expensive disaster.... and don't expect any local supplier to have the knowledge.
