  1. Did you run into any issues when going over to Laos with either yourself or your son? Considering that they regard as sex before marriage to be a big no-no as a way to extort bribes and they seem not to recognise marriage in any other foreign country.
  2. I'm wondering how easy or complicated it is to marry in Hong Kong and what type of costs are involved. Anyone here with 1st hand experience over the past few years?
  3. After marrying in the UK, was is a quick and easy process to get the marriage recognised to be legal in Laos?
  4. Which other countries are "friendlier" than Laos should one decide to get married to a Lao citizen? Has this changed in the past few years? From what I've read, people have gotten married to Lao people in Thailand in the past. For example, this thread from 2012:
  5. I've heard getting married to a Lao person in Laos is very difficult and expensive and not many people attempt it. Not sure how much the costs are or how long it actually takes though. Also, you're not meant to have sex with a Lao national before marriage, so this could prove problematic for many foreigners. Do people usually marry their Lao partner in Thailand, or another country? Will the marriage be recognised in Laos? "Permission for marriage or engagement to a Lao citizen must be submitted in a formal application to Lao authorities. Penalties for failing to register a relationship range from USD$ 500-5,000, and possibly imprisonment or deportation."
  6. 2nd Rd, near Soi Diana, next to the massage shop. That small pharmacy there. I suspect some on Soi Buakhao would be similar.
  7. Yes, you're being fleeced. 200 baht for the Thai brand is normal.
  8. Is this something that happens very often in Laos? Foreigners getting caught and having to pay fines? Do the owners of the hotels or neighbours often dob in the foreigners?
  9. Why hasn't anyone suggested the usual response of just staying at a hotel for a night and then getting the hotel to register your address and print a screenshot before going to immigration? Seems like the easiest & best solution.
  10. So volunteer visas are a "no-go" these days and are totally an avoid?
  11. Why would they deny people with volunteer visas? How much are volunteer visas and how long does it allow you to stay in the country? I haven't really seen much discussions on this forum about using one to stay here in Thailand.
  12. What about for a Laos citizen who needs to get a work permit (via a Thai citizen) to run a business for themselves so they don't get in trouble with the police? I was told by a Laos girl she needs to pay 25k baht per year to get a work permit and every 3 months needs to go to immigration. Does this sound correct?
  13. How much do Laos citizens who work here pay to have a work permit and how often do they have to go to immigration to renew them & what's the cost of this at immigration?
  14. Thanks, great to hear a report & that it went smoothly.
  15. Thanks. They are only in BKK by the looks of it, or do they also service the Pattaya area?
  16. Anyone have any agent recommendations for getting a Thai driving licence? I was going to do it myself, but if it's going to take at least a few weeks to a month or more to get it, I may look at an agent if they can get it done immediately to a few days time. I have my English driving licence, IDP, residence certificate, medical report & all the required photocopies.
  17. Everything is in Thai on that site and when I get the page translated, it doesn't look like there's an application form for the license. I came across this on another site. Does this look correct for Pattaya? If so, I'll just print this form: https://chiangmaibuddy.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Application_For_Driving_License_Blank.pdf
  18. Pussy is much cheaper here
  19. Of course! Why should retirees miss out on all the fun ????
  20. Ok, thanks. I'll take a look later.
  21. Because that's what I've read everywhere and even been told on this forum. Why would there not be an application form to fill in?
  22. Does anyone know where to download the correct latest Thai Driving Licence form so I can print it and fill it in before going to the and Land Transport office?
  23. Oh wow. If you go there later in the morning, do they turn you away?
  24. Ok thanks. I'm guessing you'd need to be there at 8:30am on the dot when they open. Is it true they only process 20 foreigners for licences per day as per this? https://pcec.club/BanglamungDLT And that appointments can be from a few days to a few weeks in the future?
  25. Is it possible to get a Thai Drivers Licence (Motorbike) in Pattaya on Visa Exempt and a 30 day extension of it?
