Did you run into any issues when going over to Laos with either yourself or your son? Considering that they regard as sex before marriage to be a big no-no as a way to extort bribes and they seem not to recognise marriage in any other foreign country.

I'm wondering how easy or complicated it is to marry in Hong Kong and what type of costs are involved. Anyone here with 1st hand experience over the past few years?

After marrying in the UK, was is a quick and easy process to get the marriage recognised to be legal in Laos?

Which other countries are "friendlier" than Laos should one decide to get married to a Lao citizen? Has this changed in the past few years? From what I've read, people have gotten married to Lao people in Thailand in the past. For example, this thread from 2012:

Is this something that happens very often in Laos? Foreigners getting caught and having to pay fines? Do the owners of the hotels or neighbours often dob in the foreigners?

Why hasn't anyone suggested the usual response of just staying at a hotel for a night and then getting the hotel to register your address and print a screenshot before going to immigration? Seems like the easiest & best solution.

So volunteer visas are a "no-go" these days and are totally an avoid?

Why would they deny people with volunteer visas? How much are volunteer visas and how long does it allow you to stay in the country? I haven't really seen much discussions on this forum about using one to stay here in Thailand.

What about for a Laos citizen who needs to get a work permit (via a Thai citizen) to run a business for themselves so they don't get in trouble with the police? I was told by a Laos girl she needs to pay 25k baht per year to get a work permit and every 3 months needs to go to immigration. Does this sound correct?

How much do Laos citizens who work here pay to have a work permit and how often do they have to go to immigration to renew them & what's the cost of this at immigration?

Anyone have any agent recommendations for getting a Thai driving licence? I was going to do it myself, but if it's going to take at least a few weeks to a month or more to get it, I may look at an agent if they can get it done immediately to a few days time. I have my English driving licence, IDP, residence certificate, medical report & all the required photocopies.

Everything is in Thai on that site and when I get the page translated, it doesn't look like there's an application form for the license. I came across this on another site.
