Growatt SPF5000ES Offgrid 9kw DIY Solar Project
Muhendis replied to Pink7's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Are the two serial strings joined into a single feed in a combiner box or are they two separate feeds into the solar inputs of an inverter? If the former then only one is needed at the combiner output. If the latter then it's one per string. Also please note that an AC anti surge/lightning protector is different from a DC one so get the right one for the job. -

An emp (electro magnetic pulse) from a nearby lightning strike came into my inverters via the overhead electric supply. Internal mov protection was not man enough in two of the three inverters and the ATS. The damage caused was significant and very expensive. Lesson learnt and protection fitted. Protection of the solar panel output is standard and always fitted in supplied combiner boxes. The cost of fitting a protective device is a one off thing for a few hundred Baht whereas an insurance policy is usually ongoing. So I don't think of it as a scam. -

Small point but the Lazada batteries you mention are not LiFePO4's. They are NMC's same as used in power tools. -

Where To Buy Solar Hybrid Inverter And what to buy

On every roof indeed. My idea which is probably same as everyone else, is that all small communities of say 500 households should be independently solarised and connected to each other into a mini grid. -
Where To Buy Solar Hybrid Inverter And what to buy
Muhendis replied to Pink7's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Have you considered paralleling three units of 4 or 5 kilowatt inverters? That will give you all the power you need. Also since you are talking off grid you will have batteries. If the day is a bit cloudy and you need more power than the panels can supply, the batteries will take up the slack so to speak. You might also spend some time to make up a chart of power consumption against clock time then develop a few house rules about what is allowed to run and when. Grid power is a relatively bottomless pit in terms of power availability but solar power needs to have it's limitations fully understood and maybe worked around. -
Where To Buy Solar Hybrid Inverter And what to buy

If the 500v inverter input relates to the solar panel input (which it probably does) then the maximum number of solar panels per string would be the sum of the open circuit voltages (Voc) of each panel not exceeding 500VDC. In the example label shown, that would be 500VDC/45Voc = 11.11. That's 11 panels in a string. -

There seems to be and increasing number of scams/cons from sellers on these shopping web sites. I got caught once when I ordered a Razer mouse which was cheaper than it should have been. I received a cheap plastic keyboard and mouse worth a fraction of the Razer mouse. When I raised the issue with the shopping web site, the advice they gave was to go to the police and file a report and let the police sort out the fraud. I didn't think much of that idea and took the loss. I would advise anyone to do what I now do which is to take a look at the sellers "shop". If there is nothing in that shop then I don't buy.

Burnt at the stake before he dies perhaps? Or is that just for witches. -
I wonder how many of you have tightened the terminal screw to it's max. But the cable still not clamped, then slackened the clamp screw fully and the cable is solid as a rock. Me too......

Looking at the amount of damage to the boat, those passengers and crew are incredibly lucky there were no fatalities. -
Paperwork is clogging up government departments in Thailand
Muhendis replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Looking on the bright side just for a moment. Each piece of paper has carbon locked up in it which the tree collected over the years so in a way Thailands love affair with paper is helping to save the world ???? -
Trouble is that, for me , I have to add cost in time and fuel to get the new brush. My nearest new brush shop is about 12km away.

Just a little more information. There is available in Thaiwatsadu gallon cans of white spirit which I use and is excellent for cleaning brushes. I have recently done some red oxide painting followed by gloss. Cleaning with white spirit makes the brushes almost new again. Another plus is that the white spirit doesn't evaporate very quickly.

Sorry. I forgot to mention the junior hacksaw blade which I used to weaken the thread in one place.

I had a similar problem with a shower fitting. It was screwed into a brass threaded blue plastic pipe. The metal of the broken fitting was thin and quite easy to brake so I applied a bit of panic + logic and figured that if the fitting could break so easily then so would the threaded bit still inside the pipe. With a bit of judicious poking and levering about with a sharp pointy scribe and a small screwdriver or two, the bit inside the pipe became bits and literally fell out. The threaded pipe was fine and a new fitting was inserted with no problem.

A few months ago I bought a Total pressure washer on line. It was a total disaster only running for a few minutes before cutting off and on. Went to Ruangsangthai and got a Bosch with a continuous running capability of 40 minutes plus. Best one I've ever had.

The true test, as has been said before, is can your non-Thai kids inherit your land after you die. I think that would probably be "no". In those circumstances, I would imagine the land would need to be sold to a Thai at some knock down price or taken by a government agency to be sold at auction. As some have said. It is a blatant attempt to relieve foreigners of their hard earned capital.
