I'll question a guy's memory of how things happened, because my memory isn't as good as it used to be, and never was as good as I remember it being.

But one of my pet peeves is posters who claim I'm lying because my experiences don't match up with their's or their view of how things work around the world.  So I try not to do it to others.   I thought maybe he had let them swipe it when he checked in, or used it to guaranty the reservation (and forgot).  Apparently not.   I'm taking him at his word now that he's filled in the details indicating he didn't give them his CC details until he checked out.  It's a big world and stranger things have happened.

I have stayed at hotels and not paid until it came time to leave.... I don't think its as rare as people think

But when I check maybe they see a permanent visa or speaking to them in Thai makes them think I'm not a tourist who might run away without paying the bill....

Why would you drink it, nobody drinks beer for the taste! Lets face it beer tastes shit.

You sir, must be devoid of culture... Or have yet to experience good beer

There  is not much finer  than a quality Belgian or German beer

In Foodland Pat Pong the cans are located in the alcohol alcove which is fenced off outside booze selling hours. And  'non alcohol beer' may still contain up to 0.5% alcohol.

I thought that was called shandy

This is no different than the U.S., and maybe everywhere? Expansion and growth is global. The things you mentioned, the ups and downs of different areas, are predictable. I was smart to buy in a growth area in the U.S, I suggest people to do the same in Thailand.

Unless your Thai your buying options are a bit limited to condos etc and many people think they're way overpriced

This is the most bizarre thread I've read in a long time and I can't understand why the OP isn't being more widely mocked.  Not that I applaud mocking, but relative to other less-dopey threads, this one has got off very lightly..

"like a vagabond" is a great title tho....

This is true. I note in my area the number of second hand car dealers has increased too. I was told that much of the increase was due to credit debts but whether that is true or not, I don't know.

There is some very nice luxury car dealerships all around bkk selling the best cars from around the world... (rolls Royce, maserati, lamborghini, ferrari, Aston Martin and porsche all available at multiple locations around the city)

They don't seem to going out of business, there maybe even more of them opening and its not unusual to see half a car park full of luxury German cars at any middle class or higher condonium

Whether their all bought on credit I don't know....

I have read and do believe that the majority of households are probably deeper in  debt than they should be but you could probably say the same about most of the west too...

May I ask what tools you have purchased and how often you use them.

    Just curious

I have had sockets that were weaker than the nuts , screwdrivers tips breaking of on relatively low torque jobs

Spanners bending, ratchets losing the ability to change between clockwise and counter clockwise

Things I have never seen before using regular western tools...

Some of them might as well have been made of chocolate

I don't know if they're is counterfeiting of branded tools but I would not be surprised

    Sorry,

Not completely correct actually. You have to read the small print of each hotel policy at the time of booking. They are clearly marked, so no deceitful behavior. Some want three days notice, some 24 hours, some charge for the whole period if you cancel in the week you are due to go there.

It all depends on the hotel policy, not the booking engines.

Youre probably right, I only vaguely remember the details

XGf worked for agoda and she booked all our holidays for years

We used to book the first night in advance so if the hotel is crap you can leave the next day to a better one

Only once in Thailand did we want to extend the stay and they refused cash at reception because fully booked...

I am a POMmie as you call us although I don't come from Pompey - naval slang for Portsmouth, the home port of much of the Royal Navy, but from about 200 miles North.

I brought about 18 boxes of 480 tea-bags over when I moved here 2 years ago, packed in our container. Tesco Red Label brand, fairly similar to PG Tips but cheaper. What you probably call "black tea". When I have my kids and their significant others visit a requirement is they each bring a box of 480 Tesco Red Label tea bags and 2 boxes of Oxo 18 cubes for my wife (these last are a beef or chicken stock cube my Thai wife treasures).

I drink a lot of tea, just cannot get my head around the fact that milk is more expensive here than the exorbitant price of petrol in the UK. But milk does taste better in tea LOL.

    But I LOVE my cuppa!

    This is the good shit!

The price of alcohol free beer is bloody rude considering that it doesn't ( I'm guessing ) get an alcohol tax.

It probably falls under the excessive  "luxury import goods tax" that they put on everything from  chocolate to cheese....

(it is still ~40thb a bottle cheaper than the one with the alcohol in it)

I have bought mostly junk handtools in Thailand, although it was cheap they're mostly Chinese crap and will break easily with even modest use.....

Touché, good point.  I got caught out once at a mall, not long after dining at one of the restaurants therein.  We have to muddle through holidays in Murica.  No bidet or bum guns, so we resort to those moist baby bum wipes.

Century mall has those "dry wipe" toilets too....

Thanks... do you have a legal position for saying I want my money back?  Why would the hotel be allowed to collect?

agoda  and some other travel booking things have a policy of charging you for the room since they can't rent it to anyone else if you don't arrive and don't cancel

(usually they waive the charge if you cancel within 24hrs of arrival so they have a chance to rent it to someone else but it may depend on the hotel too)

Maybe in the bigger cities it can pay well (also depends on the volume of stuff they can sell on). Bigger areas will do their collections during the night, so maybe they pay a bit of overtime.

However, on the most part I am not sure it does pay so well. Usually to secure the job the person will need to pay anywhere between 20-50k. Maybe 15k if a relative. The salary is around 7,000-8,500 per month.

The real money is not the salary itself, its the money you can skimm off from the garbage

All the bags hanging on the sides of the truck are things they are collecting because they know someone who will buy it
