14 days quarantine for arrivals from Bangkok... pretty bad for any business still functioning. A few hotels in the north area of Chaweng are now opened, probably will close again.
Makes you wonder if you came out of ASQ today and were heading to Phuket/ samui then would they tell you to quarantine for 14 days ! ????

Some places I have seen almost halved in price but not many . Most staying same for sale although long term rentals have dropped loads in price and I have even seen some 24-28m bht villas going up 3-4m ????

When I looked into it and the test in Dubai I am sure they aren’t a full PCR test unless they added it later as the one I seen was only £60 with less than a hour results time. Cheapest PCR I seen was £120 in boots chemist I think but they can’t guarantee turn around time and you would still need fit to fly certificate.

As a country that was so sure they had so little numbers , I would say Thailand is well down the delivery list of vaccine suppliers . A place that said only 60 odd dead and 3000 or so infections despite having the same population as the uk roughly and now they seem to have either been the unluckiest country going with this latest outbreak or the fact they are having to test people is showing the figures were off before ! Know which one I’m betting on ????

It has always puzzled me they ban foreign Civil Professional Engineers and Architects but not other disciplines of professional services.
Of course good for me since I am Electrical PE........
I know of architects that are employed in samui for companies there . They are European . Also seemingly a few of the newest high rise fancy buildings in Bkk are designed by some European architect . Guess it’s who you know that lets you work in whatever field .

The GF has told me that the mayor has said no more than fifty people in gatherings tonight. Seems an odd number number.
Anyone heard of this?
30 was figure I seen. Chi have also advertised social distancing, masks, temp checks and hand sanitizer. Sounds pointless if you ask me .

Pretty relaxed outside bar area in Chaloem Phra Kiat Soi 11 (by 3rd road and Pattaya Klang). Never been before and it was probably 50/50 Thais and foreigners chatting and playing pool. There were 3 bars in the complex and no music at that hour. About 01:45am a police "scout" came by and took some pictures/video of the bar/cashier areas. We decided to pay the bin shortly after. Just as we were getting on the bike a police pick-up truck pulled up outside and cops jumped off mob handed and went into the complex. Needless to say, we didn't hang around. Word is that the staff and cashiers from the bars were arrested and still in custody this afternoon. Apparently a pay-off was not possible on this occasion. No surprise today that Pattaya is in lockdown.
Yeah they usually arrest the manager and then they call the owner to come ‘bail’ them out ! $$$

This morning's last minute check in leaves on 31st Dec. I cannot find a logical pattern other than people are coming to Samui. All I know is that I am not looking at a deserted island.
We have had some December bookings for a while. Initially Thai tourists but once the school holidays hit, then mostly foreigners 'taking the children to the seaside'?
Only 18 of the 83 check-ins are over NYE.
The other 65 check-ins have left Samui already or are leaving before NYE.
The thing is that these check-ins are probably 500 guests or more? Where are they eating, drinking, shopping?
Another consideration. The villas that I work with, are less than one third of the villas in this area. The other villas have guests as well. I have no idea of occupancy levels or numbers of guests, but there are quite a few people walking around that are staying at other villas.
So far, I have only counted short stay check ins.
These numbers do not include long stay guests (3 months to one year). There are a number of these as well.
I found a few of these villas the guests stayed for a few days and never actually left the villas at all . The owners sent staff to get everything the guest required and they are now employing a chef to cater dinner etc and employ them on a permanent basis at low wage while charging the guest a high price to eat in . The guests think they paid to rent a nice villa so they use it and spend most of the day around the pool drinking and never even see samui . The other thing these groups do is hire a boat trip for a day on a private hire so they have the boat to themselves and will have all food and drink on board .

I cannot answer your question khunPer but I can give a comparison of the number of check-ins, in my business, this month.
So far, 83 check-ins and still taking last minute bookings. (One just an hour ago.)
Last year, only three months had more check ins than now.
July - 89 check-ins
August - 99 check ins
December - 115 check ins
So we have had more check-ins this month than for nine of the months in 2019.
2019 was open skies and lots of foreign tourists.
This month, zero foreign tourists. Yet 83 large groups of people checking into villas.
Year on Year, Samui where I am, is NOT dead yet.
But hey, what do I know? I live here and work in the tourism business.
The usual TV bar-stool 'experts' obviously know more about tourism on Samui than I do.
Are these for new year ? I imagine most people want to escape where they live if everything is getting closed or cancelled for new year .

You will apply for the COE online here. A round trip ticket is not required. https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/
No ticket out of the country is mentioned here for the non-o visa application.
No need to apply for the 60 day extension if you are prepared to apply for the one year extension near the end of your 90 day entry from the non-o visa.
You can get do a affidavit at the Netherlands embassy in Bangkok to prove your 40k baht income.
You get a under consideration stamp with report back date 30 days from the day you apply for the one year extension after it is accepted (it is not a extension).
No need to do a border run if you have a one year extension of stay.
Hi joe . Can you apply for the one year extension if you are on a 60 day extension 90 day runs out or can you only apply if on the original 90 day you enter with ? I am entering on a single non o based on Thai wife and was going to then apply for year extension based on marriage, but if I can get an extra 2 months out of it I would be as well to. Thanks

I can't believe what my wife told me over breakfast this morning, i.e. a Thai woman posted on her Facebook page that she went to a hospital feeling ill, after first losing her sense of smell and taste, then a temperature and aches and pains, the hospital staff asked her if she had been in any of the affected areas, no she said, so they refused to test her, she later went to a private hospital and paid 8,000 baht and was tested positive with the virus, and the government now has to reimburse her. She was telling everyone where she was and at what times and telling people to get tested, now is this is true, and hospitals won't test people who haven't been in affected areas, but have the symptoms, then this is so wrong.
At first I thought that can't be right, then I though about it for a minute, the government is asking Thai's to donate money so they can buy the vaccines, after only ordering about a 1/3 for the Thai population, so skimping on testing makes sense, although absurd if true.
Totally believe it . I said months ago my wife took her father to three hospitals and not one asked about or tested him for Covid despite him having high temp , no sense of smell etc . She said the hospitals were all packed and people and visitors in wards were not wearing masks and she never heard of one person who was asked about Covid or tested the whole two weeks her father was in hospital. Ignorance is bliss .????

And they are trying to say all the outbreaks now are from 1-2 cases like the woman at the fish market . Utter waffle ! They sat back on their laurels and because air travel etc was practically stopped they thought look how good we are . Then a few Thai women walk across the border and started spreading the disease and they actually had to bother testing people and found some had it . Then the woman at the market had it and that seemingly infected people all over , yeah sure ????. Their smugness has now set them back about 9 months from other countries that have already had outbreaks.
Can write of next year for tourism and their hopeful 10 million visitors as they will be too busy cleaning up this mess !-

Totally agree the prices are a scandal
This would be a good time to open up about why. Do they have to pay off various groups to be allowed to operate or find themselves in trouble. Special licences? Payment to wait in or go to certain places. Forced to join co-operatives?
Threats if they charge a rate others would see as undercutting the 'proper' fare.
Who might the forces be that benefit from all of this? How high up does/did the money flow and how much is for them and how much remains for the taxi driver?
Can’t remember what the cost to get the uniform/ shirt . But the drivers mostly lease the cars at around 10-16000 a month depending on age of car etc , they pay for the car if it breaks down , they pay insurance etc , they pay for the paint job and obviously pay for gasoline. I always used the same guys for years but most eventually left and now I just use a private one . Private and taxi were both same price though give or take 100bht .

???????????????????????????? . Absolutely off the scale deluded !!
They might get that many going through the airport travelling to somewhere else but I even doubt that . I would be willing to bet my life they won’t even get 1-2 million in that quarter ! ????

6000 bht was test price I seen at Bangkok hospital in samui .Government hospital cheaper I would assume.

I agree about the middle east part. i have seen pics of returning thais shared by thai embassies and one common thing was that most returnees were young women.
Saw some pics from my country's airport too. Most of them young women. May be they were in my country to help make a vaccine . because asaik there is no prostitution in thailand and thai women are the most moral women in the world.
Yip I can’t understand why Dubai is on the uk travel corridor when loads of people flying out of there or the area are showing positive in Thai ASQ . Also after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix there were something like 13 Thai women returned from there on one day and 8 were positive . I’m guessing they were massagers for people at the race weekend ! ????

Dirty foreigners like the Thai party girls who skipped back across the border after working in a “hotel” . I’m sure the woman from the market who seemingly infected loads of people or was the main starting point for a outbreak may have caught it from a dirty foreigner . Probably one she employs !
If you look at most of the figures of people testing positive in ASQ you will see they are mostly Thai ! Non Thais all have to have a negative PCR test before getting on a plane into the country, unlike Thais . Mostly coming from the Middle East . Dirty foreigners ????
