  1. Yes very much so, it's only for 6 months each year but probably split into two visits per year, change is as good as a rest they say.

And thanks for your feedback regarding costs, it does look as though an average non-event day is less than 25 Pounds, other friends have said they spend around 50 per week for groceries. In Thailand there are many days when I spend zero and I suspect the same will be true in the UK. Mostly my recreation will be travel around the North of England, Lakes, NY Moors, Scottish Borders etc, I'm really looking forward to that as I am visiting old churches, I miss that sense of history and grandeur

Budget 25-30 per day & you should have more than enough for 1-2 short trips per month.

My parents (67 & 72) took up going on coach trips around the UK a few years back, cheap as chips if you're flexible on dates & locations [emoji106]

  2. Can somebody please tell me what the Man in the High Castle was all about?

Large part of my job is working from home & tend to have these kind of TV shows on in the background but normally good at keeping up with the main plot & this one lost me, seemed pretty pointless [Deleted this part as it would be a spoiler & give the "plot" (sic) away]

So will ask instead if Series2 is worth bothering with?

In a similar vain I went through the whole of Colony Series 1 (whilst working) the other day, quite enjoyed it so watch 1st couple of episodes of S2 & looks good [emoji1303]

  3. Thanks JB300 and Rc2702, sometimes seeing you are not alone is pretty good. My Thai wife want's me to see a doctor but I am concerned if might affect my eligibility to fly. I lived with this supporting my father so am thinking I have some time for choices.
    Thanks

You know yourself best, but if it were me, I'd go somewhere & have a good checkup to see what the score was before jumping on a plane back home (if not just to keep the wife happy [emoji106]).

I can't see how they could affect your eligibility to fly unless the genuinely thought you weren't in which case, surely you're better of knowing!

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

    Cheers

  4. I've got some time (and am chit scared of the cold atm) but thanks for asking. 20k plus seems to get me an open ended return with Etihad. don't care when I fly or route. just looking at options..

Try Skyscanner or matrix.itasoftware.com, easy to check out flights 1 month at a time.

One point, you're #supposed# to show you're settling back in the UK & not just visiting for health reasons so having a return ticket might not be the best idea (not that they could find out I guess).

Plus buying 2 Singles might be cheaper than an open-ended return.

Edit: With Matrix you can also enter airports within (IIRC) up to 2,000 km away so easy if (like me) you use a regional airport (Manchester) to search Scottish & London airports at the same time

  5. I was in all you can eat BBQ place in Pattaya a few months ago whith three Filipinos .When a white guy come up 2 our table put a tiny toy on the table with a card. The card was a begging card saying I am deaf please buy my toy for a 100THB. He sort of gave me a stare as he walked of which made me think he didn't notice me and he was only trying it on with Thais. He then walked about gave out a few more. Then went back and picked them up, 3 Thai people bought a toy. So in less then 10 mins he got 300THB. I said to my friends there is no way he can't work in his own country. There is nothing wrong with his body and there is Hundreds of ways he can earn a living. I really don't know why he thinks that is acceptable. And I wonder if he wasn't deaf.

Edit:^^^ beat me to it by a couple of seconds [emoji14]

I'm guessing you meant deaf, if he really was Death asking you for 100THB, I'd give it to him [emoji15]

  6. The 'where' is a choice based on one's past or even cost. The 'what' is free healthcare on the NHS. For those who think they will never return, one's health is the biggest elephant in the room so to speak.

Will no probably become even more true after Brexit which is why I keep thinking I should go establish EU residency before it happens as I think the chances are they'll grandfather existing rights.

  7.
Or someone who simply doesnt give a shit about football.

I couldnt name 10 footballers if i tried.

Had to look this one up too, though i might have just guessed it was a sporting hero adored by a country with a paltry 65 miilion people wh have been led to beleive they are the center of the universe.

Lol... chill out fella it was a joke (but funny how I guessed right)

I know you guys prefer your own flavour of "Football" & I can only 1/2 name one of those ("The Fridge" iirc played for Chicago) but maybe when you win a World Cup (that other countries actually participate in), I'll remember the captain [emoji1303]

  8. Upon getting ones State Pension we have a choice as to whether we have it paid into a UK bank or an overseas bank account. Does anyone recommend on which way to go with that?

I have heard guys saying they get a much better exchange rate having their pension paid into a Bangkok Bank account in Thailand but will let the guys with actual experience comment.

One thing to think of is that #Technically# you're liable for Tax on any income earned overseas & remitted to Thailand in the same calendar year.

I say "Technically", as I haven't heard of anybody falling fowl of this but something to keep in mind

  9. hello so are you saying that if i dont maintain an address in the uk after i retire in which to claim for increase in pension and heating ect so not to defraud the government that it is ok to live in Thailand after i retire and claim pension or am i not reading this correctly  thanks

Yes it's perfectly ok, you can claim the State Pension you're #Entitled# to no matter where you live.

Just cannot claim Winter Fuel allowance or annual upgrades if living in Thailand.

  10. Lol average at best eh? You must be very hansum man

    Nah,

to be honest I'm a bit fat, In the wallet area :P

Joking aside there are some ropey looking women in this year's competition... http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/miss-universe-competition-2017-1.13029396

  11. Another 9 words in... (there's a golden rule in there somewhere).

But I do take your point, remember chatting to a guy in Dogs Nana who asked me where I was from, Yada Yada Yada later he tells me that he wished he was working in Singapore. But after 10 years working in Bangkok he was dreading the Reception he's going tiger in the UK

Me... I'm moving back, with my Filipina (she's in her 30s so should avoid at least 1/2 of the prejudices)
  12. I said hey... what's going on...

    What's going on...

Talk to us fella, some of us care enough ( well to take the p1ss... in a positive way[emoji1303]).

Ii'll confess, my guilty secret is when the black dog growls (before it barks).. I jack up Zombie (Cranberries)

Everywhere I've ever been that has a live band on I've bribed them to sing it

#1 Favourite is my best mates Son (DJ) rocked the sh1t out of it in KL (wish we'd recorded it)

#2 is a bakla (ladyboy) comedy club in Davao, only foreigner in the room, well mullared so it's time for Zombie... here's 1,000 php (Ms hides in terror [emoji14])

But you're only British once right [emoji1303] (that's fckd the Buddhists up [emoji14])

  13.

Got half way through then lost the will to read the rest...

Your first post on this subject painted you as somebody who was only really interested in having the company of 20yo bargirls, that may very well be an incorrect judgement but if you speak to people in the UK or anywhere else like that then for right or wrong you may very well be judged

It has nothing at all to do with small minds in my opinion but actually more to do with your description of your main reason for living or visiting Thailand, all this bollicks about people saying stuff, well I have lived all over England and a bit of time in Scotland and have seen very very little of what you describe as rife behaviour all over the UK

Will have to agree to disagree but as for the OP I stand by what I have wrote as I have recent experience of what he is describing and have overall had a very positive experience and absolutely no regrets and none of the issues that you describe as widespread in most of the UK

ps I served for a long time in the RM we were well known in the forces for getting dressed in drag for a night out but not too many are actually gay and very very few members of the public ever said anything when confronted by a big burly bootneck in fishnets and high heels.....

You did a lot better than me mate, I got about 9 words in & moved on.

I'd love to have a night out around Warrington town center with the guy & him point out all of the "TS" happily going about their business, (I was born & bred there but even I don't get off with a night on the town that easy)!

But hey... SOHO London is some people's reality of the UK
