Dr Melcher is our go-to guy for everything medical. We've been happy with him for the last six years. I am a dentist, so I know a good doctor when I meet one.
He gave me a very detailed assessment of my dodgy left knee and we decided not to replace the joint at the moment, but to wait. He could have done that surgery himself at Vachira hospital in Phuket.
He is professional, he keeps up with his continuing medical education.
Actually, maybe this is relevant to you: he told me, only a month ago, that he's planning to go to Germany in April 2021, for six months. He's going to do a course in some orthopedic specialty.
In short, I recommend him, but he will not be available for half of 2021.

I'm planning to leave soon, and to do exactly what you're going to do: leaving no Thai accounts open, nor any assets at all in LOS.
I spoke to Kasikorn Bank, with whom I have an account, and they seemed pretty happy with an international transfer, so long as I could prove that the money originally came from abroad (bankbook proof, as you say), or from a property sale in Thailand, with again, the original purchase price having come from abroad.
They made it sound easy. I'll be looking into it in a lot more detail before we leave, though. The guy's English was far from 100%. (My fault for not learning Thai!)

A comment about Dee Money:
I looked into them for moving money internationally, and my impression was that the fees for moving money might end up being significantly higher than a one-off international bank transfer. There were limits to the amount one could transfer.
I'm a bit short on detail, as you can see, but take a hard look at Dee Money.
Bon voyage!

It's not open at the moment, but when/if it reopens, consider trying Full Moon Brewery again.
Last time I went they had at least ten beers on tap, including some excellent brews from Brewdog. I especially liked Elvis Juice which has grapefruit infused in it. It sounds like a horrible idea, but I find it moreish! There was Punk IPA as well, an old favourite.

No, not yet, Chip.
However, I'm in touch with a company in Phuket Town who are asking me all about the problem. They haven't said they can fix it yet, but they sell gate motors and I'm sure they'll be more than happy to sell me a new one!!
???? -
My electric gate motor isn't working.
The remote successfully sends a signal to the control box: I can hear a relay clicking, so I'm pretty sure that's a good sign.
However, nothing else happens: there's no power to the motor, or at least there's no sign of the motor working.
Can anyone please put me in touch with an electrician or company who could help with this?
I'm based in Rawai.
Thanks for any advice ????

Having now reached page 6 of this thread, I am very grateful to everyone who has posted, and who remembered my original question.
I believe that everything has been said that can be said on this topic, but please don't let me stop you from expanding on it.
The core problem associated with a company, involving Thai nominee directors, is simple: it is illegal.Maybe, some time ago, it was considered a loophole. Maybe, even now, you can get away with it. However, as it stands, your investment is unlikely to grow and you might lose it completely, as well as landing yourself in a lot of legal trouble, in a country that you may not understand fully. This will be very expensive, if not crippling.
The 'company' route to owning Thai property/land is now clearly discredited. Don't do it, kids, unless you can afford to lose your investment.- 5

Thank you for that most helpful information!!

My views exactly, especially the last line.
I came here, and bought in Jan 2007 using the company scheme. Had I rented at the same price my neighbour pays then I am now about one year past 'break even' for the initial outlay.
Bloke across the road from me has the totally opposite view, been here sixteen years and rented from day one. Must've paid for one and a half houses and still owns nothing.
That's a perfectly fine point of view, for the First World.
Here, with the chance of investigation by the Department of Business Development, it's a risk of losing 100%.

That sucks. Figured there will have been some people falling foul of the law, just no personal experience. Not having money to burn not something I'd be willing to do given how easy it would be for someone <deleted> off for even a trivial reason to drop a dime on you.
You are quite right. This has happened to people. There are a lot of desperate and sad mofo's in Thailand.

@Salerno
Thanks very much. Good Googling technique! I didn't know how to do that!!
I have already read the article you linked, but thanks for that as well.????

@xylophone
Thank for the info!!!????
I did a search before I asked this question, and could find nothing relevant.
Property seized you say? That doesn't sound good. Are you able to pm me with anonymous details of the circumstances. That would be very helpful.
All the best

Thank you for the comments so far.
I'm looking for a bit more detail:
Do they impound the house and your belongings?
Do they give you some time to sell up, or do you lose the house?Do you go to jail?!!!
Does anyone have any experience of someone to whom any of these things have happened? -
As the title says: your comments please.

By chance, I was looking for someone to make an offset smoker for me, very recently.
For a number of reasons, I didn't go ahead with it, and didn't even go to see this guy, but not because of concerns about his skills.
He made this for my friend:
The quality looks quite good, and I expect he could make your design as well.
I don't have a name, but he has a shop near the Bangkok Phuket Hospital as shown in the map below.
Apparently, he's always working outside it, surrounded by BBQ bits and pieces, so hopefully you'll find him.
Good luck! ????

I have no commercial ties with them, but I recommend Sea Fun Divers, in Phuket.
The guy to speak to is René. He is as knowledgeable as anyone on the island, about anything diving related, and I know that Sea Fun are in business now, because they filled my cylinders only three weeks ago.
If your girlfriend qualifies and likes it, you might consider a trip to the Similan Islands, on the west coast, north of Phuket. It's the only truly-world-class diving in Thailand and well worth a trip. René will be able to tell you all about it.
Have fun ????

OP here.
Four days have passed, and eight pages of comments, yet none I can see from any representative of the British consular team.
Isn't this supposed to be a Q&A subforum??- 1

With its enviable record of no new cases of COVID for weeks now, Thailand is still not on the list of countries from which the UK doesn't require 14 days of isolation on arrival.
Why is this?

You can't beat hardwired LAN!!

I've just ordered 25 metres of Cat 6 network cable, from Lazada.
Only 250THB!!
Who wouldn't want Gigabyte internet!!! ????

The 3BB men came today and checked everything out.
They spoke good English and left me a local phone number to call if I had further problems. That's good service!
As often happens, the main issue had sorted itself out before they came!! The wireless speed at my PC (5G, and 10m and two walls away from my router) was back to an acceptable (for my usage) 150/50.
The wireless speed at my router was 390/200.
The LAN speed, straight from the 3BB fibre router, was over 900 Mbps down.
When I had checked the LAN speed yesterday, I used my laptop which I forgot only had a 100 Mbps network card, not Gigabit!!
Thus, I got a speed of 97/95.
Duh!
Stupid me!!My obvious solution is to use wired LAN all the way to my PC, then Gigabit speeds would be mine!
Still, the problem that made me originally start this thread, had disappeared on its own, which is good in a way, but quite annoying and confusing, as I don't know what caused it.
Is turning left at the traffic lights illegal now?

Signs or no signs, that particular junction: turning left on Soi Sai Yuan, onto Viset Road, is now a haunt for BiB who stop people who turn left on red.
I have witnessed it twice. I sometimes still turn left on red as do many people, but I have a very good look round for BiB.
Good luck!
