  1. Artisi,

The footvalve is down 10 meters and the water level is down 15 feet ( just over 4 meters).

    I checked the voltage,   230 v.

I haven't tried turning the tap down to reduce the water flow, as was suggested. I just don't know, but it would seem to me that would make the pump work harder?

  2. cooked,

I understand I will only be able to suck to 8-9 meters. Thats all I want. My submersible burned out, and I just had this shallow well pump that I will use till I get a new submersible or the water level gets too low.

  3. carlyai,

I think you read my op wrong. The outlet is 1 inch, reduced to 3/4 inch.

I used the 1 inch pipe I had and it works fine, except that it overheats and shuts off after about 15 minutes. I can't think of any way to stop the overheating.

  4. I'm going to use a 1 inch shallow well pump to pump out of a borehole.

I will put 10 meters of pipe with a footvalve down the hole, then at the outlet, reduce it to 3/4 inch.

As I understand it, it will be less strain on the pump if the suction pipe (in the borehole), is larger than 1 inch.

My question is, how much larger, 1 1/4,......1 1/2......2 inch?

  5. Thanks Pib,

The way the Pu yai Baan explained things to my wife was a bit confusing. He told her what month she had to sign up, but also, told a neighbor who is a few months younger than her, he had to sign up the same month.

Then the PYB said she wouldn't get her first payment till next year.

So, I guess if you're lucky and were born on the right month, the payments will start right away. If not, it will take awhile.

The wife opened a Krung Thai savings account and filled out the paperwork so the 600 a month will be deposited there. We just got connected to the Ubonrat dam water system and will have the water bills automatically deducted from that account. The 600 a month, of course is nothing to us, but if we just leave the bank account alone, we will never have to pay a water bill. Just makes life a bit simpler!

Thanks again for clearing that up,

  6. r136dg,

I agree 100%. I was a concrete finisher for 25 years and some of the work I see here is unbelievable, it's so bad. But people here think, (Hey, it's hard, what more do you want?)

When I first built our house, I was a young man. I poured and finished our driveway by myself, no help. Now, like you, I do walkways, one section at a time. I have a plastic mortar pan, big enough for one bag of cement, 14 shovels of sand, and 28 of stone. That will do a section 1 meter wide and 2 meters long. I'm so damn feeble now, my wife has to help me pick up a bag of cement!

When I moved here, I brought a magnesium float and a bronze edger and jointer. Those tools make all the difference in the world. They do sell cheap steel hand tools here, but they just don't do as good a job.

DIY concrete work, is really not something one should do unless they have some experience.

  7. I suggest you get a profesional concrete company, and look at some of thier work. Concrete is something you will have to live with the rest of your life and believe me, you will care what it looks like.

They tend to make a real mess also. I've seen concrete splashed 6 feet high on walls. You should mention this concern to the concrete boss. (It might or might not make a difference.)

I think spending a bit more to have it done right is well worth it. If done wrong, it's very expensive to fix.

  8.  We have rescued 3 dogs over the past 20 years, and although it's been rewarding in the end, it was a lot of work. For that reason, I was very impressed to visit an animal rescue foundation near us. They care for over 500 dogs!

It's run by a very nice Swiss lady and a dedicated Thai staff.

I often read about foreigners looking for volunteer work and this organization welcomes volunteers. There is a good youtube video about the place, titled, "Volunteer at saved souls animal sanctuary khon kaen".

  9.

I was in touch with him a couple of weeks ago. He has some more surgery ahead, but said he is ok.

I owe a lot to him. I was in a bad place last year and went to him for advice. He went out of his way to help me and never asked for anything in return.

I had laser prostate surgery with his surgeon in New Delhi and I'm back to my old self, enjoying life!

I'm not the only one he has helped, and he has done it all while going through some difficult health problems of his own.

  10. giddyup,

The catheter wasn't painful, but uncomfortable.

I was getting up to urinate 7-8 times a night before. Now 1-2 times.

As I understand it, laser surgery is available in Bangkok and Pattaya. I believe it's fairly new and the surgeons are not as experienced as in other countries.

  11. My prostate was really causing me a lot of grief and seriously affecting my quality of life. Medication wasn't working and it looked like it wouldn't be long before I would be unable to urinate at all.

After reading Al007's, (the OP), posts about surgery in India, I sent him a PM to get more information. I really wasn't sure if I could go through with the laser surgery. Just the thought of having anything inserted in my urethra gives me the creeps. He explained the process and said it wasn't a big deal. They give you a spinal block and you don't feel a thing. It was starting to sound better. By the end of our conversation, I was convinced.

He gave his surgeon in India my contact details and after a few emails back and forth, I headed out to New Delhi.

The surgery was nothing really. I spent a week in India, one day in the hospital, three days with a catheter then back home. I didn't enjoy it, but well, I wasn't there on holiday.

That was back in March. Today, I'm a new man. I'm pissing like a kid again. Having the surgery was the best thing I could have done. I went through 20 years of urinary problems and to be free of that seems too good to be true.

The cost was US$ 4,000. It would be about double that in Bangkok and 3-4 times that in a western country. The money wasn't really a concern. To me, the most important thing is the surgeon. The Dr. that the OP and I went to has had a lot of experience in the US and India. He was very confident and even guaranteed I would be satisfied with the results. I am VERY satisfied.

  12. When they poured the roads in our village, a government engineer who came to inspect the work, brought some test cylinders with him, so I know they have them here.

They filled the cylinders at about a 3 inch slump, very impressive. Then they added water and poured the road like soup!
