  1. (I've not been following this thread, so my apologies if this product has been discussed.  The size of the thread is too intimidating to try to go back and read it from the beginning.)

This showed up in my Facebook feed today:  SmartFlower.  It looks intriguing, but the big question I have is how much it might cost.  I could imagine a high-rise office or condo rooftop with a "garden" of SmartFlowers tracking the sun.  They also have a FAQ with more information.

The Austrian company seems to have geared its info toward the Euro market, addressing such things as sub-zero temps, frost and snow.  Would it be any less appropriate/effective in Thailand's tropical climate?

Is this a realistic product, or just a gimmicky "feel good, look nice" product?

Smartflower looks cute, which to me means expensive..my cousin started solar in Hawaii..
I never got any, but now it's less than $1 per watt.
My neighbor has 64 solar panels to hopefully produce 13K watts. 240 watt panels are $225- 300 per panel depending on made in u.s. or china.. he said I can pay $1 per watt including da mounting brackets.. no leaks, cost extra!
    Alohz
  3. I have 20 or so ungrafted trees all around my house.. all within throwing (seed) range. There are also some on our road, along with a few flowering ungrafted trees. Very few, with very few fruit. Two avos is a blessing when that's all there is..
Don't leave trees ungrafted, though it's good to use seed stock, but graft "em, unless You like da shade trees..
There are also, Winter pears, and Summer pears.
I have a big root stock tree that grew four big trunks after being cut down. I could graft different scions to each trunk, but would be sure to have the same fruiting season on each.
    Or not..
    Aloha

  4. Sounds like 5 years should have lots of fruit.. I wonder if Sharwils would do good, developed in Hawaii at same latitude as C Mai, but its not as hot. Looks like a long way still to go before a super avo in Thailand is found. I'd say: ask Your neighbors or fellow farmers but You Guys are the Pioneers! If I find what works great over here in a hot area, I'll let You know, and get some scions..
    Aloha and good growing!

  5. The 250W panels I bought second hand 8 months old were about $61 each. And they will be getting cheaper, and even the 310 W  panels too.
Bought another 24 x 250W panels recently and will install 18 of them, the max. the second identical Midnite controller will handle.
This will make 9kw.  Even with the existing 18 panels the aircon can run all day and the batts are still fully charged by sundown.   22kwh per day with the aircon running is typical collection at present.

Do you expect to get full voltage from used panels?
    Aloha!

I see many folks seeming to confuse privacy with security. Like they feel more secure if a post is private. My advice is never feel
secure about ANYTHING ever posted online, no exceptions. Any sense of security you derive from anything online that you believe
is not to be shared with others is nothing more than a false sense of security. Of course it goes without saying to never post anything
online you don't want to share with the world. Just like never tell any secrets! Same same, but different! :shock1:

I heard it called transparency today on BBC, the internet is the world's biggest copy machine.and world's largest tracker.. deal with it or..
    (nothing personal, my friend)
    Alohz everyone..

  7. One thing that I set out to find this year was how many metres above sea level an Avocado tree needs to be in order to fruit without grafting. I have been up and down many mountains around Chiang Mai searching for trees and talking to owners and last week a local Avocado grafter confirmed my conclusion that you need to be above 500 metres.

I don't think you 'need' altitude, everything seems to do better, at same latitude, in Hawaii, but we have cooler breezes, I live at 4,000 ft, some beat without grafting, but it's hit or miss.. grafting is the key for consistency.. Aloha
  8. 42f. at my unheated cabin in Hawaii, high altitude, place.

No complaints at latitude 20 from You Guys. kidding if course , I wanted to say no flip flops, cause I'm older, but their not so good, and can be googled .

I like the UPS idea, dark, soap in eyes..

    I know..

My friends started Solar in Hawaii, Water and PV in 1979, and I learned about the brass sandwich panels earlier , which are very efficient, and 98% wet, instead of pipes over a black background..more later.

coiled black hose can work in Morning Sun

photo is just an experiment,I was never able to upload.. Windows phone

thanks and Aloha to You All

  9. Sorry, like doesn't make it visible to others.. share does but you can control that with privacy settings.  A world symbol is public, but the little people holding hands is friends only and when I try to share it, it warns  me that only your common friends can see it. (again)

    Aloha
