  1. You stated that the mother is the guardian, so I assume your daughter lives full-time with her. Do you plan to provide child support for your daughter until you die?

It sounds to me you’re number one goal is to build a house and live in it alone until you die.

After your life expires, you don’t want your ex-wife to get the property and want your daughter to get the property instead.

Unless your plan is to continually provide child support and emotional support and educational support for your daughter,

it sounds like you’re trying to use your daughter to bypass the laws about ability to buy property and live in it until you die and then pass the property onto your hairs(daughter)

  2. Maybe discounts on the vaccine can be given based on the percent of their country GDP they invested in developing a vaccine.

I am guessing the country’s effort (snd money) toward developing a vaccine is similar to their effort helping their own people that lost their main source of income due to lockdown policies.

  3. In America, each application for credit appears on your credit report.  I do not know if it is the same in Thailand.  In America, a good credit rating can result in lower financing on a car or other things.  But - I heard this is not true in Thailand - but I do not know.  Applying for a credit card where you get your paycheck deposited makes it easy for a bank to check your income, but taking at least 4 months payroll statements to another bank also works.  Banks care about ability to pay and integrity to always pay your bills.

I think credit cards are convenient and useful for buying airline tickets and many international online purchases.  But - a great added benefit are the discounts you get from using them.

I have 2 credit cards already, I would only consider a 3rd if there were many promotions on the card and no annual fee.  As little as 100,000 Baht in credit is a Platinimum card in Thailand and many benefits.

  4. The reason any country offers visas is because they believe it benefits the country.

What skills do you have to offer the country?
Are you from a rich family and don’t need to worry about money when you retire?

If no degree and no job skills I would suggest you get both of these before planning to stay in Thailand a long time.

Do you have 10,000,000 to invest in Thailand?
Getting married may cost 500,000 baht and a party?

Enroll in an international university and get a degree. This offers long time benefits.
    Thai Elite visa.

Enroll in a school to learn Thai. Many schools advertise their ability to get you a visa (I have never seen a school advertising their ability to teach you Thai) Not sure if they are still checking on you every 3 month at extension time about your progress learning Thai.

Good luck with that...not many countries do consider these couples. I see many hassles with that

Once the relationship is established, if it can be proven, what kind of visa will be issued ?

A crucial matter, which may upset some, the list includes gay couples as, they too, are not tourists but lovers.

555 and that is only the tip of the Iceberg

Either marriage should be the requirement or documentation showing at least 2 years of the people (straight or gay people) being In a committed relationship in Thailand.

I think there is a need to increase the available capacity of quarantine facilities to get people with retirement visa and people  normally living in Thailand in a long term committed relationship.

  6. I frequently get 10% discount for using my credit cards and collect points that can be used for movies and food - as stated above - petty nice since it cost me nothing.  I bought a new IPAD and got 10 months payment with no interest.  My biggest reason was to gain access to the lounge on international flights.

I think you can not use debit cards for online purchases because they do not have your name on it.  But best to have the full amount of the bill deducted from your saving account each month - no chance of late payments.

What are the best cards for promotions?  I think KrungSri and Kasikorn.  I think SCB required 100,000 a month income and I am about 5% short of meeting that requirement - but not sure if they have many promotions.

I also think it is good to build credit.  If you pay each month - almost the same as a debit card - but I have a record of repaying money (if I ever needed to borrow money)

  7. I was on holiday in Loei province a couple years ago when it was raining.  I was looking at the river by my hotel rising.  The hotel assured me the government said it will not open the water gates and the river should not rise much more. Water was still at least a meter below the banks and the hotel was above that.

About 2:00 AM I get a knock no my room and they told me to evacuate immediately.  About 0.5 meters of water in water in the lobby.  The government decided to open the water gate and let the water flow.  They took me to another hotel in Loei.  Fortunately, I was flying out the next morning.

Having just 0.5 meters in the lobby (and rising) was scary.

Loei is very beautiful - very green and beautiful

  8. How to get higher credit limit - ask them?

I don't really need it - I charge about 20,000- 30,000 each month and have 100,000 limit on each card and automatically pay in full every month. I never have a balance and never pay interest.  It would be nice to have for an emergency - I always pay my bills.  In America, if you pay your bills every month and get close to your limit - they often increase your limit.

Now with Covid maybe not a good time to be asking for an increased credit limit - maybe many defaulting.

I did once have 160,000 in medical bills and used my 2 credit cards and paid immediately.

  9. Is triple my monthly salary normal for a credit card?
i only got 100,000 from Krungsri and Kasikorn and that is not much e than my salary. I believe both have no annual fee, but I haven’t checked my statements closely. I thought about Bangkok Bank, but I seldom see promotions and they want an annual fee.
I got a second credit card because of the promotions offered by the credit card and also because I want to use the lounge at the airport when I fly international.

I frequently get discounts on those credit cards at restaurants.

She needs to walk. They're trying to take her for a ride.

Just look at the job ads, teachers "URGENTLY NEEDED". They all want somebody to walk in and start teaching immediately. None are saying "Oh, but we'll need 11k for your visa". Utter rubbish.

Many foreigners have left and still none can enter. It's a buyers market for teaching jobs, even for Filipinos. They'll take any English teachers, rather than have none.

She needs to keep walking until she finds a school that'll give her what she wants, not the other way around.

It is very likely many schools will be desperate and will take anyone willing to fill that spot in the classroom. But without the proper paperwork, they will be working illegally. But many schools will not care because they need teachers.

A lot will depend if you want to have a non-B with the work permit and working legally or accept a job and work illegally

People with a valid extension of stay will probably find it easy to get a job and work legally. People who are here with amnesty from the Thai government may have to pay money to change the “overstay under amnesty” to a non-B extension.

Unfortunately, the international schools I have seen pay Thai teachers around 20,000 baht a month. A lower international school might pay a western teacher as low as 60,000 baht a month. Mid-level international schools should pay between 70,000 to 100,000 baht per month

At 73 years old you and everyone else should have already had that amount insurance as minimum for many years. It's foreigners like you that make it difficult for people like me to get back to our homes in Thailand. That would cost you 10 times more in most other countries. I understand why they don't want people like you back. Hell...i don't either.

If people felt they were good health and wanted to take a chance at self-insuring, then having a locked account with a minimum 500,000 baht for possible medical care, is a possible alternative. Although this would not be enough to cover all illnesses, it should cover most life-threatening illnesses until well enough to travel home. (We are guests here)

But having no medical insurance and no savings could very likely cost the Thai government a lot of money for a non-Thai citizen.
Even though my family history has no history of heart attacks or cancer, I do not feel comfortable self-insuring.

  12. Based on 4 different schools, it is the teachers responsibility (cost) to get the Non-B and police check.

From a tourist visa, with enough time left, could pay around 1900 Baht to change to Non-B.
With the cooperation of schools, coordinating the termination of one work permit with the start of s new work permit, then no need to get a new non-B

Now the problem of people with expired extensions of stay being allowed to stay without penalty changing to Non-B.

This amnesty period does not seem to be functioning as an extension of stay, but being allowed to stay with no penalty. Changing from no extension to a Non-B may be expensive.

I am not sure what most schools are doing about the cost of quarantine and the $100,000  medical insurance requirements for teachers trying to enter Thailand from other countries.

  13. The people who have no money to buy medical insurance are the same people who have no money to pay medical bills. Although I wouldn’t trust Thai insurance companies, international medical insurance should be regulated to charge reasonable premiums based on expected cost. As a person gets older, expected medical costs rises rapidly.

But US$100,000 medical coverage is crazy. My colon ruptured, many expensive tests, private room in a private hospital, heavy expensive antibiotics for two weeks and my total bill was about $7000. My school provided medical insurance had a maximum payout 40,000 baht. Fortunately I had enough cash in my Thai bank accounts to cover the rest

The number of posts from people using short time visa and border runs because they don’t qualify financially for long-term visa demonstrate the need to require medical insurance.

I think if someone has 800,000 baht deposited to an account in Thailand, then they can be exempt from medical insurance. Insurance for 2 to 3 week visit is quite cheap.

The Intended purpose for short times visas was to come to Thailand and visit, then return to their country for a few months and then come again. It was not meant to live in Thailand with border hops.

Assuming It is possible to fly out of Thailand, but heavy restrictions coming back into Thailand maybe the government will use this to get rid of people living with short term visas and border hops.

  14. kingofthemountaun had an interesting thought on tourism

Thailand is probably thought as exotic and cheap location with beautiful beaches for international tourist. Although the owners of resort hotels and activities have realized the price tourist will pay, and increased the price to that level. Unfortunately they are still paying their staff minimum wage while charging high prices. But they do increase employment, but the profits go to a few.
The tourist industry in Thailand is charging higher and higher prices, paying their staff low wages, and frequently offering low quality products.

I would like to see an increase in domestic tourism with hotel prices, and food at a price is appropriate for the pay they are giving their staff.

Maybe a restructuring of vacation hotels and activities would be good, and the people will follow. Reduce the scammers, and offer quality for the price. Distribute the money received at tourist hotels to the staff as well as the owners

  15. That reflects a question I asked earlier. They seem to imply opening the island can contain any outbreak of the virus to that island. But that can only be contained if there are no local flights to Phuket, no local people are allowed to enter or leave Phuket.
I am sure much of Phuket wants the tourist back, but are they willing to sacrifice their freedom and remain on the island? Thai people would not be allowed to fly to the island, unless they did two week quarantine on return to Bangkok. To leave the island, Thai people (and foreigners) would need a two week quarantine

  16. Since they’re talking about limiting tourists to a couple islands, then have to assume no quarantine. If they’re willing to do 2  week quarantine, then open up the entire country to them.
The only way this could work is if all local flights to and from the island are shut down and only international flights are allowed. It local Thai people wanted off the Island, they would need a two week quarantine before allowed to go to other parts of Thailand.
If the tourist don’t need a quarantine, then the island has to be locked for all flights and roads on and off the island

  17. It is amusing that some people see the reason for marriage as the ability to get a long term marriage visa, instead of a declaration of love and commitment. Most gay people that get married in other countries are both citizens of the same country.  Although gay marriage couple benefit a small number of relationships if marriage visa was possible.

For straight unmarried couples, is living together accepted as partnership over medical issues, or funeral arrangements?

Interesting world, Gay couples want their love recognized, and many straight people are deciding there is no value in getting married.

  18. I understand that no Thai can refuse entry to Thailand, even if sick. If a Thai person shows up with a high fever and coughing and a fit-to-fly certificate,  will they be allowed on the flight because all Thais must be allowed to enter Thailand?

Have there been foreigners that tested negative 72 hours before flight, but positive one week after quarantine that was on a flight with the Thai person that tested positive on arrival?

I’ve heard the tests are very accurate if you test positive, but not sure about the sensitivity about being able to detect during early stages of infection.
