  1. This whole thread is about Thais poor language skills and you're asking why Thais don't go anywhere to work abroad!

    Seriously?rolleyes.gif

You wrote, "It's such a basket case that it's economy outperformed every other country in Asia,INCLUDING THAILAND,for the first 2 quarters of this year! Why do clueless, uniformed idiots insist on posting utter garbage on here,it's actually embarrassing how little they know!"

I guess you did not want anyone to ask you anything about what you wrote, seriouslyclosedeyes.gif

PS 134,000 Thais worked abroad in 2012. But not many went to the Philippines.

I think I'll take the word of Reuters over a muppet like you,is this an act or something? :

Oh and 10,000,000 Filipinos work overseas! If you can't say anything sensible that is backed up by facts PLEASE stop making a fool of yourself!

Thailand has a GDP per capita of $6,500 US Dollars per year. Philippines has a GDP of $2,400 US Dollars per year. The average person in Thailand makes about 300% more than the average person in the Philippines.

Calling people names normally goes out of style in early adolescence, Try and post maturely.

Next year people in the Philippines may make more than this year (Peso down 8%) but they will still only make about a third of what the average person in Thailand makes.

You should really read the news stories that you quote. Feel free to quote the estimated GDP of both countries per capita for 2013.

Can you put your Mother on because this really is like speaking to a child?

Just because the size or volume of a country's GDP is bigger doesn't mean that the economy is perfoming better. The UK,Spain and Italy all have MUCH bigger GDPs than Thailand but are their respective economies performing better?

    Of course not!By percentage gains for the 1st and 2nd quarter the Philippines has outperformed Thailand's economy,this is a stone-cold fact,get it?rolleyes.gif

If you were right and he was wrong would you expect Thais to go to the Philippines for work? Or people from the Philippines to come to Thailand for work? I just asking. Mexican people come to the US to work and Polish people come to the UK to work. If the Philippines economy was doing so well one would expect Thais and others from SEA to be flooding the Philippines looking for work. Are they?

  3. Out of all of the people posting, how many have actually spent any length - longer than six months -of time there?

Accents or not, the current Thai educational system cannot compete with that of the Philippines.

One of the major sectors of employment in the Philippines is call centre work. These aren't call centres for local businesses in the most part, but huge international companies use the Philippines for their call centres due to their proficiency in English.

Hmmmm. Well that explains why the Philippines is such a regional basketcase, with crime, corruption, and poverty much worse than Thailand. And it also explains why Thailand, with a population of around 30 million less, has about 40% higher GDP than the PI. Per capita GDP of Thailand is over double that of the PI. So education and English proficiency doesn't really mean much, does it?

  4. Just to clear up a few point s here,a large amount of Filipino GDP is based on the remittance of funds from abroad by around 10 million overseas foreign workers from the Philippines.Half French, half Pinoy Michel Huillier is one of the big names in this massive shadow banking industry.Just imagine the commissions from 10 million people sending money back to the Philippines week in,week out! blink.pngMost Filipinos don't speak Spanish at all,I have native-speaking Latino friends that were teaching Spanish over there and they use to laugh at Pinoys saying "Yo soy España",which of course means I am Spain and not Spanish!laugh.png

Having said that in Visaya all the numbers are Spanish so if you speak Spanish you'll have no problems, plus a few other words are the same like mesa, cebolla etc.I'm pretty sure that Tagalog numbers are Spanish also?

I lived in Cebu in 2011 and still have many, many friends there. The call centres are all based in a place called the IT Park in between Banilad and Ayala Mall. It's effectively a 24-hr place with all the fast food outlets open all the time for day and nightime workers plus some good nightspots like Penthouse and Sunflower.

There's also a massive, blue JP Morgan building that can be seen form the road and the lights are always burning there, apparently the starting wage there is around 12,000 pesos/month or around USD$250!

I've called my bank in the UK and spoken to a Filipino,I asked him where he was and he told me in Cebu, the IT Park.I was just down the road in Talamban!blink.png

  7. Had the wife's son and wife stay over weekend some time ago. They left very early Monday morning, leaving curtains closed in lounge. I got up, saw what I thought was a scarf lying along the bottom of the curtains, went to pick it up and it "slithered" away under the TV stand. Called in the gardener, who brought his two sons along, to extract a very large - over five foot long - spectacled cobra, who growled like a dog whilst being pulled out! I always thought snakes hissed, but not this on!

I think you mean Monocled Cobra don't you,Spectacled Cobras are mainly found in India?

They are very, very toxic and dangerous snakes. In fact the Monocled Cobra causes the highest fatality due to snake venom poisoning in Thailand!w00t.gif

  8. For everyone saying there's thousands of languages in the Philippines there's two main ones.On Luzon Island, where the capital Manila is they speak Tagalog and in the South they speak Visaya, that's it.
Huge amount of BS about The Phils going on in this thread, from people who have obviously never been near the place!

  9. ok ok pedant anonymous member here,

but Philipines was colonised that is why they are catholic , or some branch of Christian and all speak bludy good English

Yeah, it was a Spanish colony before. Then the US took it over. I have met some people from there who speak Spanish (along with English and Tagalog). They have a saying about it...don't remember. Ask a Filipino and they will probably know it. Several have told it to me and laughed.

During one visit to Luzon, a Filipino friend said, "The Spanish gave us religion (Roman Catholicism), The Americans gave us English and Civil Service and the Japanese gave us Kamikaze drivers". I thought it was funny and he continued the conversation is fluent English, complete with the latest jokes and comedy.

They do mix there "Fs" with "Ps" though, which can be kinda funny. I had a Filipino girlfriend of mine (lived in the SF Bay area) tell me a bunch of jokes that were a play on words that Filipinos couldn't say well. Her English was flawless, so the jokes were pretty darn funny.

    Here's one:

Q: What do you call two Filipino pilots?

    A: A pair of pliers.

    Ok, two:

Q: What do Filipino tennis players wear on their feet.

    A: Tenacious.

What utter nonsense, have you EVER even been to The Philippines?rolleyes.gif

  10. Well the United States won the Philippine's from the Spanish as a result of the Spanish American War in 1898, after the Philippine- American War 1899-1902 the Americans defeated the revolt of the people of the Philippines and made English the primary language of, the government, education and business, The US controlled the Philippines from 1898 to 1946.

So to answer your question, Why the people of the Philippines have more English speakers and teachers then Thailand, was a result of 48 years of English language was forced on the people of the Philippines as it official language!

    Cheers

First of all sir it was never forced on the Filipino culture. They did have two bases there but are now down to one and Subic Bay is located outside of Angeles city.

English is there second-language because of the American influence, that is correct! I visited many schools when I was in the Philippines basically because I was a principal from the USA. They are taught English on the first grade level through the 12th grade level. They are the third largest English speaking country in the world. They have approximately 94% literacy in the Philippines.

I visited a first grade class with 51 students and you could hear a pin drop. When working for my Doctorate I also did a survey of some of the Filipino educational systems. Their curriculum is very sound and their universities are basically top notch. The number one University is located outside of Manila in Quezon City and the number two is in Dumaguete. The International Universities are totally top notch and with the core of instructors that they have it appears that they are extremely sound.

To sum up most of the questions asked here, it mainly depends on the lecturers or the instructors at the University that makes them a sound and quality-based educational system.

If Thailand had this quality of instructors I truly believe that their educational system could have possibilities, But they must change the curriculum in order to meet the accreditation requirements. Thai students can only be as good as the instructors or the leaders of that individual school. Thai students are extremely intelligent if Instructed properly with quality educators. Once again do not give total Autonomy to the owners of the school and the school must meet accreditation because the teachers are qualified but not in English. This is not the problem of the teachers but the leaders of the school.

I guess you were not a geography major in school check a map Subic Bay is not outside Angeles City but a good 80 or so kilometers away. The US doesn't have one base in the Philippines as we have an agreement with that country that allows us to use there base. We left the Philippines in I believe 1991 after the volcano explosion dumped several feet of ash on Clark Air Force Base (which is outside Angeles City) and several inches on Subic Bay and the government as for an outlandish amount of money for the rent of the two bases. The Philippines Government was feeling there oats about then and wanted the US out. I was in the US Navy for 10 years and spent a bit of time in Subic Bay and I know where it is at. And they do not speak good english

Clark is the old US base and also the airport for Angeles City which is about 11km away. It's a military runway and even though you land halfway down it you still can't see the end of it when you get off the plane!blink.png

  11. I've just come back from a trip to Bali,Indonesia and guess what?Everyone speaks perfect English there as well,at least as good as the Philippines if not better without the silly accent!

The truth is it's just not cool or "Gangsta" in Thailand to speak English and that suits the governments just fine, keep 'em stupid, uneducated and therefore much easier to manipulate!sad.png

What has not speaking English to do with being stupid and uneducated? Silly accent? Oh God we need a thread on that. biggrin.png We could have a poll what is the most difficult accent to understand as opposed to the silliest accent.

You talk about what not speaking English has to do with being uneducated? It is learnt for 10 or more years by EVERYONE in school in Thailand!

You then go on to post a video with the title "Funny French Guy Learning American Accent",with Steve Martin,a 100% born and bred American,as Inspector Clouseau!

And expect us to take you seriously?rolleyes.gif

  12. To anyone berating the Father,he is the one that you should feel the most sorry for.

Why?He will punish himself far more than anyone else could, every day of his life until the day he dies, for leaving Cartoon in that pick-up!

Anyone wanting him prosecuted really doesn't have a heart and it would be pointless anyway as he is in his own private, living Hell now and right up to his own death!sad.png

Prove to me that he will punish himself every day and that he will be living in his own personal hell.

Again, prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the case and that he actually feels this way.

Bit difficult, eh? Thats why there is rule of law, and neglect is most certainly a punishable offense.

Either your post is a joke,or you have serious mental health issues,I can only hope that it's the former and in very, very bad taste!bah.gif

  13. Always been stunned as to how anyone could send large amounts of money to someone on the strength of an unsolicited phone call.

Quite a few people will suggest that he was greedy but there's sweet FA wrong with wanting to profit from investing money.

This cat just went about it in the wrong way.

    cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Is that what keeps you in the job then?whistling.gif

  14. Why all this hoobra over Thai/Philippino English skills? What is the point of having good English language skills like the Ph yet your country is still a basket case?

It was the fastest growing economy in ASIA in the 1st and 2nd quarters this year, hardly a basket case, why comment if you have no idea what you are talking about?rolleyes.gif

  15. IMHO you are describing a typical sex tourist. In fact, most tourists dress like slobs.

All foreign residents I know, wear sport shirts or golf shirts and walking shorts or slacks. None would never wear a T shirt in public.

While at home, I wear a decorative T shirt and Pah Kao Mah style shorts.

However, when in public, I wear tailor made Hawaiian style shirts and walking shorts - sandals being the logical choice of footwear.

Please, please post a photo of yourself in Hawaiian shirt and "Walking Shorts",as opposed to "Non-Walking Shorts",as we could all do with a good laugh!cheesy.gif

I just know you have a greasy, gray ponytail to make up for the hair missing on the top of your head!laugh.png

  16. I saw it before on the Chiang Mai forum, this guy's dreaming if he thinks they were operating from that pokey little apartment in the crappy looking block, from what I know these operations are big,well-funded and state-of-the-art technology like VOIP systems and the like! They also have security teams and corrupt officials on their side so maybe just as well he lucked out?
Sad story though,I think he got some closure by travelling to Chiang Mai,just think he was a very OCD person bordering on Mental Health problems!sad.png

  17. Don't be put off by the righteous satang counters here, reality is that she would not have lost anything, any cashier always has a little coins buffer because people leave small coins behind all the time. In the US you see it as "give a penny take a penny", In thailand you don't but is there anyway.

Nobody in Thailand makes a fuss for 15 satangs, she wanted to give you a bad time and surely had resentment toward foreigners.

Are you serious? Now the race card.

    This is too funny.

That she had "...resentment toward foreigners" before this happened is not certain.

That she has it now, almost surely is.

Great festive username you have there mate, gave me a giggle!laugh.png
