I'm blaming the embassy because it's 100% their fault.
Things don't go our way? They've withdrawn the service. A bit more than "things don't go our way".
I suppose we should blame ourselves for being born British.

Over the many years you have used this service the embassy has provided and now you all turn against it when things dont go your way.

No, no ,no, here we go again, feeling sorry for yourself.
If you must blame someone, blame it on the guys abusing the system, not contributing to the economy, false declarations etc.
How does the farang riding around with his wife on the noodle cart contribute, a Thai can do that just as well.
Thailand is very lucky, people are knocking at the door wanting to live in this beautiful country, they can be selective.
It's foolish to think the system will not change, why have you no plan B, C or D.

For those Thaivisa posters who demonstrate so often that they cannot read, this development is nothing to do with the Embassy refusing to provide a service any longer, it is Thailand's Immigration asking the Embassy to do something that is impossible for them to do, something that the Embassy has never done before!
The British Embassy has never confirmed or guaranteed that any incomes shown by British citizens are genuine. Read your previous income letters if you don't believe me. How can the Embassy provide a service that they cannot fulfill?
You'll find this great information will not sink in, the blame will continue sadly.

Aww that sucked, I’m a ways off from retiring but understand the panic, wait until they also require you guys to have proof of a 40,000baht plus health care plan every year.
I'm not retiring, I work offshore and over the years I came back every 28days. I recently turned 50 and chose not to abuse the loophole and went down the 800k baht retirement visa option.

Seems to be some confusion here.
I own a couple of condos and all the electricity meters are in my name, these electricity charges are paid directly to PEA.
I take it if you rent an apartment the electricity rates are set out in your contract.
So I gather if owner occupied or you have a decent landlord you can pay directly to PEA.
The water charges are always paid to the condo management and have a minimum use, i think 100 baht per month.
Please correct me if this is not the case.

"There must have been changes for them to act"
Your sidestepping. I asked you to provide a link to the "must" changed laws on their website.
You need help in comprehension? I can do that.19 minutes ago, blackhorse said:27 minutes ago, VYCM said:Please read my post and understand before replying, if you cannot read english i will try my best to translate to your native language.
I mentioned nothing about the embassy changing any laws."There must have been changes for them to act"

Let me know if you need translating.

When are farangs going to wake up. Thailand doesn't want us here. They want tourists who they believe spend more than long term residents. I know that to be not true but it's what they believe.
Can you provide a link please or is it just another conspiracy theory.
Doesn't want us here, please explain.
they dont want deadbeats here, makes sense to me.

Therefore they are abiding by the laws that are in place.
There must have been changes for them to act and soon to follow are the other embassies.
The embassy can NOT Change immigration law!
They can change internal policy.
Why is that so difficult to understand?
Now where is your link to thai immigration backing up your statement... Nope didn't think so.

Everything has changed. I dont use a Thai bank account, so how do I prove I transferred money here? Well I'm not dead yet, and I manage to pay my rent and utilities, so I guess I must get living expenses from somewhere.
How on earth can you live here and not use a Thai bank account.
Yes as a tourist this is possible.
Bring on the new lawa, let's get the quality visitors that Thailand deserves.

Why would you write that, you are just compounding negativity.
They just want you to be contributing to the economy, it’s not a lot of money.

Does the British embassy do anything useful any more ? Seems to me to be a waste of time and money. Might as well close it down.
They have chosen to go down this path for legal reasons. They are protecting themselves, too many British expats are doing the wrong thing, signing false documents etc.
Don't blame the embassy.

The logic is not there, it it?
They'll issue me a work permit and extend a non-B every year as a teacher on 37,000 per month.
But now that I'm retired. I've gotta have 65,000 per month. With all my free time, I'm going to drink 1000 baht a day?
This is the logic
It is a clever move by the Thai authority, I have notice over the years the 800,000 baht is quickly spent over the next few months after the extension is issued, the funds being in a Thai bank account are easily accessible, I often spend on unnecessary items as others will do also.

So you want only the elite here !
Lots of good , honest persons on low income also supporting the Thai economy!
Yes get rid of the bad guys and trouble makers. But the ones who always show up on time at immigration , who never overstays , and followed the rules. now they will also get in trouble.
If you want an elite society , this is it.
the legitimate ones will have to sell some of their assets back home to fund their retirement in Thailand.

Think about all the empty condos , and lost business .
The old retired pensioner has to move out , he can afford a life here but not 800k in the bank. I would think there must be at least 100 000 people who will get in trouble.
So it will affect the Thai people and the economy , if you live on a small pension , lets say 50k per month , you can still live a decent life in Thailand.
It’s about bloody time, it should filter out all the dead wood (all the lousy miserable B@st@rds) and the legitimate ones will have to sell some of their assets back home to fund their retirement in Thailand.

I heard on the radio (local station here in Pattaya 103fm) this morning the presenter referred to it (800,000 baht) as DEAD money - What stupid reference.

From what I have heard and read it’s the Good Guys in Bad guys out.
I’m sure it’s only the ones that do not comply, false statements etc that have a concern.
There will always be the lousy miserable moaners and blamers.
These people will never be happy, they are in the wrong and are desperately rocking the boat, making waves.
For those of us that are genuine it looks good, possible to stay with the statement option.
At the end of the day it will make all of us doing the right thing benefit as these horrible moaners will go back home.
I’m looking forward to posting on Thai visa and not to have to put up with the delinquents that reply.
