I will never understand either. Thailand has large foreign currency and gold reserves. I checked recently. But their fiscal dicipline has not helped and personal debt levels must be at breaking point for many. Any democratic government would typically worry about political instability.

The astonishing nature of this story from a personal perspective is not the horrific news itself, but that I am not surprised or shocked by this news.
Horrific and grotesque incidents such as this in Thailand have been normalised by their frequency.
Had this occurred in the UK I would have been a lot more horrified, but as this has happened in Thailand my initial impression was... A lorry has hit someone and left the body on the roadway for more cars to drive over - another normal day.
I’m wondering if here is not a trashed motorcycle somewhere on the edge of the road... a motorcyclist knocked off and then hit and chewed up by a following big vehicle (lorry). Amazing that no one following noticed a body (even partially dismembered) on the road - quite worrying at that apparent lack of attention while driving.
If there is an explanation, your's sounds entirely likely. A fallen motorcyclist in the road and run over more than once.

Thanks. I knew about this but there has been some question about the use and efficacy of the AZ vaccine in the elderly (65+) as well.
I had the first AZ jab last week in the UK and I'm retired.

Just yesterday they came out right here on TV and said Sinovac is limited to ages 18-59, so the PM can't take it. But so many TV commenters will take any excuse to hate on anything Thai.
C'mon, it's staring you in the face !

Here in the UK we are prevented from international travel anyway till mid May and have quarrantine on return from red zone countries. Europe is still gearing up vaccination programme. Thailand will decide when the time is right.

what do you call hearding them into an abattoir, slitting their throats and slicing them up so you can eat them? that sounds cruel and inexcusable to me.
As a vegetarian and aspiring vegan I agree. This particular incident sounds like an awful fit of revenge for something on an animal.

For sure, there would'nt be many buses left on the road if the Police pursued this policy. !

The Mayor and councillors seem mesmorized by the graphics of a Tomorrowland Pattaya and the contractors salivate over thecontracts to be won. Meanwhile the people were employed there continue to suffer along with families they supported.

ok.. lets do some maths..
450,000,000 / 40,000,000 tourists = 11.25 baht
so where does the other 289 baht go?!
on the other hand..
300 baht times times 0 tourist arrivals = oh, never mind ????
I could'nt say it better myself, where are all the tourists ?

The Sports and Tourism Minister is or was Kobkarn Wattanvarankul will be delighted no doubt to see Pattaya like this.

Seriously, does this apply to thais or just falung and migrant workers. This fixation with trying to track and monitor people is breathtaking.

I know the UK message is confusing, but Thailand's message seems to be 'create as many holidays as possible to boost the economy and get people moving about whilst closing everything for covid
Richard, we can all see how this being "played". As Churchill said , Why waste an opportunity when a crisis comes along.
I am not hopeful that I will be able to return this year and age is not on my side now.

I'm sure the extra revenue will be coming from expensive ASQ Hotels and repeated covid-19 tests.

This government rolled up the Welcome mat long before the covid crisis. The virus has just provided the government an opportunity to press the reset button. Of course there are environmental concerns due to lack of regulations and profiteering, the rest is xenophobia.

Sounds like paranoid xenophobia to me. There us absolutely no evidence in this story that these devious Myanmar deviants eve actually have the virus !
Paranoid xenophobia started on 23rd March 2020 and it is'nt ending anytime soon.

Anutin assures us that things will return to normal when the vaccine arrives. The Oxford vaccine may be approved soon but how long will it take to vaccinate everyone or a majority thais ? Do we know if the vaccine prevents re-infection or transmission ? Only then things will return to a very new normal.

Worldwide about 1.5 million have died from Covid 19. Annually, about the same number die in vehicle accidents worldwide.
The reaction to Covid-19? Shut the world down, quarantine all populations, economic catastrophe be damned.
The reaction to an equal number of vehicular deaths: "Ho-Hum"
I will never understand the disregard for the road statistics in Thailand set against the complete paranoia of covid-19.

The Sports and Tourism Minister Kobkarn Wattanavarangkul has clearly said she wants an end to the places like Walking St. But it's all very well for her to have such high ideals, people need the work.

On the contrary, that suggestion very much does take into account the reality. Don't adjust your driving expectations and then, as @transam would do, just run into the guy 'cause he shouldn't be there, then pull out your trusty copy of Thai driving laws and read them to him while you're both lying bleeding in the street waiting for police, ambulance, and a big bill to follow. Or, just move to the right out the way 'cause you've adjusted your driving expectations to Thai practices and knew you might need to do so to avoid an accident. And then go merrily on your way. Now it could be much, much worse.
Common mentality on the forum. We have guys walking around in Pattaya with bleeding foreheads all the time 'cause they insist that signs should NOT be hung so low over the pavements, 'cause that isn't allowed in the UK. ???? I'll expect to see you among them.
Ha ha, Big Star, Yes, I won't forget walking into that scaffolding bar across the pavement at eye level in Pattaya Klang.

Only post that makes sense to me, if the farang wasn't gobbing off for his next you tube vlog then he may have been able to control his bike, really embarrassing to be honest.
Agreed, I don't use a camera myself, it just seems that many with them are just looking for the next incident. Never assume anything in LOS, drive slower and scan the road ahead.

Spoken as a selfish expat would. Well done.
Well said, so many smug posters lately on TV obviously in Los at the moment. If restrictions were lifted tomorrow tourist numbers would not return for years but those who have connections can get on with their lives and relationships.

I can remember when Thailand had 4 million tourists per year. That figure became 39 million in 2019.
The place was much nicer and more beautiful back then. Thailand has been spoilt by the scourge of mass tourism. I hope that they never return.
I guess you are in Thailand with that POV.
