They will fill the 1,200 seats per month but only because so many people are desperate to get back to their loved ones.

Hopefully the generals will have the good sense to use this as simply the first step in re-opening tourism, and use the "success" of the first month as grounds to rapidly expand access.

Hopefully they will also be smart enough to know that, beyond these initial desperate folks, the quarantine requirement is simply not going to fly with regular tourists.

Poet,  we will find out soon enough if 1,200 people enter the Kingdom with this STV. I can't help thinking this is the way they want to continue for what ever reason. Just let them find out if they can survive on the well-heeled where ever they are coming from.  "Up to them"

I have not found it difficult to retire here, been on a retirement visa for 7 years now.

The big mistake many retirees make is to sink all their assets into Thailand. I've always operated on the principle 80% of my assets stay in Australia.

My only non-liquid assets here are a secondhand car and secondhand scooter. No big loss. My funds in several banks would be withdrawn lickety-split, and converted to currencies which are not printing more money, or gold. I could do that in the 7 days the authorities give if they are kicking someone out.

I'm sure my contribution is appreciated and valued by my Thai GF and her family. The Thai ruling class and their opinions are irrelevant to me, it's only the regulations I have to watch out for.

I'd agree that so far, retirees who have been caught outside Thailand have been treated badly. It's not as if they are in an age group that is reckless with coronavirus, unless they are Trump supporters.

What kind of country is it you only invest 20% of your assets for fear of losing it. I'm sure your thai gf and family appreciated what you did for them yesterday. Today what you can give me falang ?

And like always, NEVER any news of retirees being allowed back on the currently suspended Non Imm O & O-A visas (unless you are married and/or married/spouse with Thai child) continues.

Retirees are being treated with zero consideration.  Thousands of us stranded abroad, yet special tourist visas have become more of a priority and will sidestep retirees with their 800,000 baht bank deposits.  WHY?

Because, it's all about the money.

People don't believe me when I say the reason I never had or wanted kids, ex was of the same mind, because I really didn't want to bring kids into this world and I'm talking about 40+ years ago. The mess this world is in now has, for me anyway, proved I'm right.

Over populated, over polluted and heading for deep doo-doo in a hand cart. All countries in the same cart.

I wonder what my parents were thinking conceiving my two sisters and two brothers during WW2 while Hitler rained down his bombs on Britain. Life goes on believe me.

I really think you ALL are wasting your time on this... NOTHING will happen until Flights come and people are allowed in......

end of story!! everything else is just hot air....

Seeall, You are so right, Thailand just throws googlies at ya every time. the airlines need clearance as you say and they need passengers with a chance of getting in at the their destination.

The issue at hand is that Thailand knows this and realizes how much money they can make on those rinse and repeat 6 month tourists. Not just pure greed but lunacy.

ThailandRyan, Spot on, I think we can conclude this Phuket model with the expense of three weeks quarantine and tests will disappoint. I wastes this valuable time left to salvage anything of the high season. As you have forecast before the future for many thais is bleak, and our frustration continues - stuck here in UK too.

What she needs to do, and what is extremely difficult to do, it seems, is study what the result has been of allowing foreigners into other countries that did not totally shut their borders. Did those countries show a marked spike in infected casers from abroad? Otherwise it is just baseless speculation.

"because the government has to consider too many details"---

Is this not where the problem lies , perhaps?

compie69, is'nt the UK a good example of that. We critisized the gov't for not locking down inbound flights but six months I'm happy with it and visitors sor returnees self-quarratining at home as required. Would this work for Thailand ?

These are the few that you can see what about the many unseen destitute and desperate Thais so badly hit by the covid crisis owing no fault of their own. Surely they deserve help and quickly. So Sad

Dialemco, yes, and it will get worse for many not just tourist areas and will not get welfare. I can't help but respect thai people for their restraint in such hard times, but for how long can an empty stomach without a roof keep it in.
