Sorry, but the gov't killed the golden goose on 23rd March when they locked down and closed the country to the outside world. What sort of statistics do they expect ? Hair-brained schemes to allow people back in should consider they need to allow airlines to start flying again.
-
I'm thinking- go along with what they want like this tracker stuff and block the signal somehow.
-
I understand the thai gov't seeks to limit and restrict any possible spread of the virus but this idea will never give airlines enough potential passengers to start scheduling regular flights again and the monthly "state of emergency" continues.

Flights don't mean squat. Passengers entered through immigration is the valid number.
Yes, all this is smoke & mirrors for another audience. The immigration numbers would be important for us as you say.

Pattaya City Council members and planners must have all have dream to make Pattaya look like "Tomorrowland" the movie. Most visitors still appreciate a nod to the charm and beauty of a tradition Thailand.

I have allways thought a re-programmable implant has a lot of potential. This is the future not a mobile.

Self-quarrantine in your own hotel or home is a start , like UK and the location tracking app. The supposed zero cases of covid in Thailand has become a noose round their necks. What is going to be different in spring next year ?

I hate to say this but I will, make them all get a license and wear a helmet first, stop under age riders most of the guys I know with a so called big bike are more experienced
Yes indeed, getting priorities in a twist again. Most people who have worked their up to larger motorcycle have a more professional approach as you say.

Thailand is truly the land of contradiction and conundrums for foreigners who must be wondering if they are wanted or not. One hand offerd you sweet discounts and promotions, the other hand points you to the way out and waves goodbye.

Question to thai government: Why all the fuss over a virus that maybe killing a couple of people in thailand when you have a mass murderer "Thai Roads"? The reaction to a virus if transferred to roads would mean closing all roads and returning to buffalo carts.
Scott123, this is so true if the thai gov't does'nt change it's policy soon they will be dusting off the buffalo carts soon. They have destroyed their tourist industry for years to come.

Meanwhile countries with a sensible attitude to the virus have mostly open borders and open skies.
Live with the virus - people die all the time.
50 people die on average every day on Thailands roads.......should Thais be banned worldwide from driving motorbikes and cars and lorries ?
UK, USA, Europe.......open skies and borders..........life is going on, economies are recovering.
Cases rise but deaths continue to fall, soon everyone will see................the virus is weak, and only kills the very weak. Just like flu, pneumonia and all the other diseases there are. Median death age worldwide is over 80 years old.
RR2020, a great post putting the virus into perspective and how to continue which we must for social and economic reasons. Thailand has backed itself into a corner.

RichardColeman, I know how you feel, if I got a vaccine jab to enter Thailand no doubt I could'nt afford the prohibitive Insurance. I'm not getting any younger. Many oap's will call it a day.

Currently, here in UK we have specified countries to travel to and self quarrantine measures on return are at home. A compromise at least we can adjust and better than complete closure.

Mung, back last year I visited a thai gov't hospital to visit a family member of my partner and could see the overcrowding and lack of facilities. I doubt any emergency facilities have been constructed if the virus got out of control.

They have no idea how to restore a once thriving economy and continue to avoid farang at all costs. It is a failed government that not only made no attempt to restore and welcome future farangs back. They also promoted hatred against the very people that fed the country for decades. You honestly deserve what's coming.
tomauasia, How very true, even before the pandemic started the mood music towards farangs was changing. Unable to extend my VOA I returned home last December in spite of ten years in Thailand. With more impoverished thais across the economy one wonders what is coming ?

2 hours ago, Mr Meeseeks said:I was in Pattaya yesterday and the beach was empty. It looked pristine.
Businesses gone everywhere; boarded up, shut down, for sale and rent, gutted out, entire blocks fenced off...
The odd foreigner wandering about, but it was like a ghost town.
The party is truly over for anyone involved in the tourism sector. And for the foreseeable.
If you are a foreigner with a business in tourism, you should have cut your losses and ran already.
Worse to come too, travelling to these areas will become more dangerous with more scams, gouging, crime rates will rise exponentially against foreigners, envy and jealousy of people with money will kick in and things will get nasty.
Those that were prudent and squirreled away money for a rainy day may get through this.
Spendthrifts and money-wasters that live hand to mouth are in trouble.
Chok dee!
Mr Meeseeks, The situation you describe in Pattaya has been on my mind since the lockdown began. I have been warning my lady who has remained there of rising crime and to be careful. I've been stunned by the civility of thai people queueing for food but the rent has to paid. Where is the support for them. ? Regards.

This is the sort of mistake you make when your speech is straight off an autocue.

The Thai baht remains strong in spite of all it's problems because it has huge foreign exhange reserves apparently. Whereas UK has thrown everything at supporting the economy through this pandemic and will take years to balance the books.

No predictions when the covid-19 will go away of course and when flights can start again. But this $100,000 insurance looks like an issue as I am approaching 70.

I have to agree sadly, was looking forward to going back to my apartment at some point but now I wont be renewing my contract and will have to sell my stuff through friends. I worry about a lot of my Thai friends who are already experiencing severe financial difficulties, a couple of women I know are living off dried noodles and looking quite ill in there recent pics. The land of smiles is fast becoming the land of frowns and worried expressions
7fish, yes, it's a hard time for many and then I hear thr economy hss troughed now and will recover in the fourth quarter. Really ? ?. Meanwhile in the UK it's the worst for 300 years.

The Thai government appear to think when the airports reopen tourists will come flooding in, what planet do they live on !Jumbo1968, my thoughts exactly, the airlines need time to re-schedule flights, aircrew and support staff and enough time to secure seat bookings, same for travel companies. Sorry, but it was all too easy to shut it all down but starting back is a long crawl. They take it all for granted tourist will flood in as soon as they give the nod.

Rough sleeping is fraught with danger and maintaining personal hygeine and appearance must be a nightmare. Your comment seems rather callous to be honest.
