Repeat tourism used to be very common here. Many people I know come here 3 times a year...some once a year. It used to be great here. But the junta, police and army have ruined it.

Yes many people I know came 2-3 times a year too but of the 40m that visit each year, I'd be amazed if  more than 1% are repeaters.

forget it who is going to put up with this stupid s#it stupid brain-dead country  ..what they they must realise is Thailand is not the country it was  better and cheaper places in europe

once you lose em  you wont get them back but these idiots cant see that

Let's face it, unless you have vested interests, most people who travel to Thailand probably only visit once in their life time anyhow.

    Nothing to really lose.

Nov 1st: Quarantine free countries named -  curfew lifted, bars stay shut...

And when Italy offers the same entry with the condition that I can't buy pasta or pizza or drink red wine, yeah, I'll be sure to go....

    Idiots.

Drinking aint a deal-breaker for a lot of us. Quarantine on the other hand is.

    I'm booking up for December...

  4. Apologies for resurrecting an old thead but I am in a slightly different situation

My wife lives in Thailand with her child (my step-daughter). The daughters father is Farang but has not had any contact with her and I have been supporting the family. We do not have any intention of living in the UK as I am close to retirement and we're building a house in Issan.

So the question is, if I were to adopt my step-daughter, is it possible/easier as the birth certificate has a Farang father rather than Thai father ?

Why is that strange... Guys still hit on my Wife she’s 43.

It seems like the Swiss-Thai couple have a healthy relationship, she was enjoying some time with her friends.

There is nothing strange about that either.

Smacked his head in the fight and was knocked unconscious...  the Swiss guy tied him up before he regained consciousness. He never did, died of the head injury ??  pure conjecture of course, but it would appear that this is what happened if the Swiss mans story is correct.

Nothing in the story seems too far fetched or stinks...

The SAME guy who was hitting on his wife happens to be the SAME guy who held up the Swiss guy at his home

    That's what's fishy to me.

    what ?

The Thai was armed with a firearm and made an unauthorised entry to the property to commit armed robbery and discharged the firearm when challenged, he was then disarmed during a violent struggle and incapacitated - the Swiss man should be getting a medal

    pretty clear to me

That's based on what the Swiss guy and his wife told the police. It might be true but the things that strikes me as odd are

    1) The intruder knew the wife and wanted to initiate a relationship (according to her)

    2) The intruder was tied up and he subsequently died (according to Swiss guy)

    Something stinks...

looks like someone has given up upon re-opening and is trying the insurance route instead ????

You'll be surprised how many bars and nightclubs are now insured for a surprisingly large sum.

And that's what an efficient vaccination policy achieves.

@ukrules     I don't see it as reciprocity - just predictable.

It was almost a "given" that Thailand would be added to the Red list - unfortunately!

I still disagree with fully vaccinated people being affected, however - also, carrying Covid into a country that has vaccinated 85% of its people should NOT be seen as dangerous - here nature should now be allowed to take its course....not the case in Thailand.

I, and most people I know here in UK don't care who we mix with now we're vaxxed - otherwise what would be the point of vaccination at all?

Best case is that around 63% have been vaccinated, excluding under 16's. I think the Government are more concerned with variant strains making the current vaccines redundant

Honestly, with current travel restrictions (which may last longer than we hope), the 5 years Elite visa at 600k is not really worth it. the 1MB 20 years without limo may be more appropriate and worth the money.

Since you are over 50, like many said before, you may be better off applying for a retirement visa. If you don't want any hassle, use a reputable visa agency. They can do 90 day reports for you as well. If you have Elite, they can also do these reports for you but the cost will be higher.

It's all about you in the end, do you want to spend the large chunk of money now for Elite or keep it if ever needed and apply for much cheaper extensions? Both Elite and retirement can be done relatively easily.

I suppose the other factor is that you are always at the mercy of the Thai authorities and as unlikely as it may be, paying a huge amount of money upfront means that if you did get chucked out of the country there is no recourse to get your money back.
