Did you have a re-entry permit ?

Thought so , mine was with the overrun NHS who I don't think would take too kindly to that request . As it stands my next appointment in the UK with the NHS spinal surgeon is next June and that is just for a review of my condition . He is reluctant to operate on me and preferred me to take pain killers , none of which work or 2nd step was to be physiotherapy . BTW , I took my Thai MRI pics with me to the UK but the surgeon said they were inferior and could not be enhanced on his computer and so I had another MRI done . Trying to contact them , even when in the UK , is very long winded as they put you in a queue and sometimes up to number 20 something . ( once I queued for 45 minutes, spoke a couple of words and was cut off ) . I was not a happy bunny . Sorry to say that the once great NHS is broken and as an example there are waiting times of up to 5 years for hip or knee replacement operations and with the winter around the corner plus the covid pandemic there are serious concerns for the NHS .

Can you recommend a VPN , cos there are so many . A couple of years ago I did have Tunnel Bear which was quite easy to use .

If they do reopen Pattaya bars etc , I will not be surprised if there are opening time restrictions such as closing at 9 or 10 00 pm . and to the guys who are openly drinking in no alcohol allowed bars , you are playing with fire and are sitting ducks for the out of pocket police . I can understand your ordeal cos the first time I had an MRI it was a bit scary being so confined and the 45 minutes seemed like hours but I have had 3 since and learned how to control my nerves and put myself into a semi hypnotic state .

I returned to Thailand 2 months ago and went to renew my D/L . The I/O said where is the tm6 in your pp . Well to be honest I hadn't noticed it was not there . Long story short , he would not help unless I had the tm6 . My lady went into see the big boss who simply printed another one and all ended happily ever after . However , I have since been told that because I entered Thailand on a re-entry permit , no tm6 was required and so there was not one attached to my pp . All rather confusing . Have to take a stance here Jack cos a lot of the older guys and also those with pre existing health problems who are finding the new health insurance policies difficult to afford may well have been here for many years , have families , built houses etc , all when there was no sniff of such insurance . There are farangs who have amalgamated into the Thai style of living which is easily achieved on a western pension . Their health care , by way of government hospitals . Everything was going well until this latest Thai pass . A one size fits all policy is inconsiderate and discriminates against the less wealthy and less healthy . You mention a safety net , well as far as the UK is concerned that has all but disappeared .

Most of their problems stem from lack of education , not only in schooling but in areas such as road traffic training , a highway code , no proper driver training , plus of course the government do little to patrol the highways nor do they televise road safety tutorials . On average 5 children drown a day in Thailand . That is avoidable by teaching kids to swim , however where I stay there is not 1 school with swimming facilities . So I repeat , I Q should not be confused with a lack of education which seems to be the case in Thailand .

I had an MRI spinal scan at the Bangkok hospital in Korat last year . The doctor wanted to operate on me the next day to ease up the pinching by 4 vertebrae on the sciatica nerve . Operation in excess of 1 million baht . I declined as I had a need to return to the UK . In the UK I asked my doctor for some pain relief tablets but instead was given a referral to my local hospitals spinal unit . The surgeon viewed by MRI films from the Korat BH and said they were not clear enough to be enhanced on his computer and told me to have another MRI scan on their more modern equipment , which I did and it took 45 minutes . However the interpretation did not reveal anything too untoward accept that of spinal stenosis cause by degenerative bone disease . He decided trying pain killers , which I did and no benefit , 2nd would be physiotherapy and finally surgery which he said would carry a risk and was loathe to operate . When I sit down there is no pain but standing and walking ( maximum 100 meters is my limit ) just knots me up with the pain radiating to my hips and I have to sit down. If the cost of MRI is a major factor , there is a company based in Bangkok that specialise in MRI/ MRA scan only and appear to be very competitive . Hotel bookings must be at an all time low in Pattaya . Seems it has fallen out of favour as regards alcohol permits and bookings for this high season will have been made elsewhere already . Only a couple of years ago there were rumours of completely overhauling Pattaya and even to the extent of allowing casinos for use by the tourists . Hope I am wrong but why the ban on bars which are the life and soul of Pattaya . The majority of workers must have found alternative jobs by now .
