Report Global Luxury Shift: Bangkok Now Top 11 for High-End Living
alanrchase replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Not sure you read the article? Nothing to do with popularity, how nice it is, or how it compares to Florida or the Med. The article just states that it is the 11th most expensive city in SEA for luxury living. -
TRUE/DTAC Prepaid SIM 'Account' Self-Service Numbers
alanrchase replied to a269652's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
If you don't want your phone to connect to the Internet why don't you just turn mobile data off? Maybe it is different on an IPhone, but on Android I can turn mobile data on when I need the Internet but don't have a WiFi connection and turn it off if I don't want to use any mobile data. -
Tourism Foreign Tourists in Pattaya Feel "Short-Changed" Amid Local Deals
alanrchase replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
The topic of how much the hotel cost used to come up now and then when I have talked to other guests. There was usually a wide variation in how much each guest paid depending on how it was booked, who was paying for it, which country it was booked in, special offers, discounts for multiple bookings,etc.. No one used to bother too much about it then. -
My computer has a similar problem. Can't recall when it started. May have been after changing the damaged HDD for a SSD or possibly after updating to Win 11. As soon as the computer goes into sleep mode the WiFi turns off, when you come out of sleep mode the WiFi reconnects. Only really a problem if I am downloading a large file overnight. Unchecked the "allow computer to turn off device" box in power management but still the same. Will change settings so that the screen turns off but computer doesn't sleep if I can't find a solution.

Immediate Emergency Flight Home Experiences?
alanrchase replied to Packer's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Had no trouble booking flights. What I totally forgot to do was arrange transport from the arrival airport to my parents house. Walked out of Heathrow 15 years ago and asked a Black Cab driver how much to go to Salisbury. £320! Told him I would think about it and went for a ciggy. Came back and we agreed on £280 as that was all I had on me. Could have got a private driver that lives just around the corner from my parents to do it for £90. -
Transferred my wife's land to our son earlier this year to avoid wills and probate. Land was valued at the appraised rate on this website. https://landsmaps.dol.go.th/# Only 1% tax was charged, I was expecting a total of 2.5%. Didn't question it as I was happy with the 1%. All three of us needed to show up. I was required to sign a document due to being married to the land owner. Wasn't asked to show any identification which I thought was strange.

SIM card and Bank.
alanrchase replied to Fabio1980's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I am with Bangkok Bank. My SIM card is registered with my old passport number that expired eight years ago and the bank has my current passport number. I have had no issues with the bank app. All the information on SIM cards and bank apps I have read say the names must be identical. No mention of passport or ID numbers matching. The bank has the numbers of my last 5 passports on record. -
You can check the appraised value here. https://landsmaps.dol.go.th/# On a mobile you tap the three dots at the bottom right and select current location while you are on the plot of land. It takes a while to do do its thing but should zoom in to your location and show all the plots of land. Double tap the plot you are interested in an the appraised value will come up.

Economy Thai Baht's Rise in Jeopardy Amid Political Uncertainty
alanrchase replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The typical moaning about Thailand manipulating its currency without acknowledging that the USD has dropped about 10% against a basket of currencies over the last few months. Maybe it is the US that is manipulating its currency? -
My SIM is on my old passport number from eight years ago, and I have had no issues. None of the information I have read on SIM registration and mobile banking mentions passport numbers, only that the names on the account and SIM must match. The bank has all my old passport numbers on file. That said, there is often a lack of consistency in Thailand when applying new policies.

It appears you have an infestation of mango bark boring beetle larvae. Not a lot you can do about it as far as I know. I have occasionally had success cutting into the bark and killing the larvae, they feed just under the bark and chew holes into the trunk. Had a few trees die because of them. Some YouTube videos from India on how to try and deal with them. Normally the tree kills them off before they take a serious hold, beige coloured sap from a spot on the trunk is an indicator that the tree has stopped an attack.

Tm30-new passport
alanrchase replied to RotBenz8888's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
A few years back, but when I went to immigration to get the stamps transferred to my new passport I asked if they required another TM30 to be done. They said no. I have had no problems with online 90 day reports or extension renewals. -
I made pizza when I first bought it but can't be bothered getting all the toppings and sauce when I can easily get one delivered. Decent bread ,on the other hand, is hard to come by locally.

I've got a Samsung EO-42K fan oven. Had it about five years. Only use it for bread and reheating pizza.

I am 68kg, 32 waist. Below are my size XL shorts. The waistband is elastic. Where is there a standard for how much a waistband is meant to stretch for size measurement?
