  1. On recent flights to and from the UK with Emirates we encountered turbulence, seat belt sign was on announcements made to return to seats over the PA system but passengers just ignored them, going to the toilet ,opening the over head lockers. They repeated the announcments but still passengers ignored them. No surprise they get injured, what annoys me is they could fall and injure me !

Yes. Witnessed some of the strangest things while flying. Flew out of Hong Kong once and as the plane went down the runway to take off several people left their seats to check their luggage.

  2. Wow, there's a lot of experts on this thread who are giving out bad advice.

So expert they know more than Ohlïns.

    NOTE!

The spring pre-load affects the ride height, it does not affect the spring stiffness. Therefore, on models with a linkage to the shock absorber, the suspension may actually feel harder when you reduce the pre-load and the shock absorber gets into the harder range of the link system.

I'm really trying to stay away from this thread because it's obviously toxic, but incorrect statements need to be addressed.

No expert. Played around in my youth. Accept that upping preload is better than nothing. Rode the odd big bike in my time. Rear suspension dalliance will not stop the front lifting.

  3. Rear Height Adjustment

If your shock has a ride height adjustment and you wish to use it, you must measure the ride height (as for Rear Sag). We are recommending to make adjustments of only 5 to 10mm increments at a time. Larger changes will cause the bike to steer considerably quicker, and if you're not ready for it, you may find yourself in trouble! Raising the rear ride height will put more load on the front and may make it necessary to tighten up the front to compensate.

    From here:

    http://www.suspensionshop.org/tech_suspension_setup.php

If you up the pre-load ride height stays the same. More weight on bike less compression on suspicion. Sorry but will do bugger all to prevent front end lifting.

  4. Fully justifying Thailand's well documented reputation as being one of the most dangerous destinations for tourists in the world.

    Seen the Daily Mail today?

What justifies "Thailand's well documented reputation as being one of the most dangerous destinations for tourists in the world"...someone getting pissed out of his brain and dying?

TV tells me so it must be true.

  5. It's a worldwide phenomenon, people die every day, in every country, for various reasons.

Now that is not very analytical at all. You look at the population first. How many farang are there in Thailand on a given day? Two million? Maybe five? How many of them get murdered or die by other means in a week? I've made this point before: In Houston, for example, a city of five million, white people hardly ever get murdered or die "suspiciously." and among other ethnic groups it's mostly drug dealers in the bad neighborhoods. Comparatively speaking, Houston looks safer than Thailand for farang.

Seems like Houston has a higher crime rate than the US average. And I very much doubt they are all drug dealers or non-white (quite a racist remark actually): http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-Houston-Texas.html

Houston we have a problem? Take your population figures etc? Tis a land of somewhat strange visitors for whatever reasons. Statistics from elsewhere do not apply.

Will have a look. Can get the Mail again since I discovered tor browsers.

What is it about the Daily Mail? A lot say it is blocked, app on Android works, good source of journalistic entertainment. I personally believe everything they say as long as I have the tin hat on.

Get a grip. Not too many Ferang population wise but most on holiday. Do they drink excessive amounts of alcohol? Been there done that elsewhere in the world and things happen. Fortunately no one died when I was doing it. Several serious injuries, such is life if you drink. Not a good advert for drinking and would suggest moderation but that doesn't happen generally.

  8. Enough. The original question was about lack of weight on front end with luggage and pillion. With just a pillion front end is light when accelerating. Upping the pre-load on rear will do very little to change that whatever formulas you come up with.

Than obviously he doesn't have to do it. He can either try and balance out the weight any way possible or be deleted and think I'm full of deleted. I'm not riding with him so I don't care either way. Was merely trying to help him.

Did not say it would do nothing to help, better than doing nothing but as pillions ass is directly over rear axle front is light under acceleration. Had front pop up with my lad on the back (65 kg ) pre-load one down from max, mild acceleration in second.

  10. 100/90r17 front not sure

140/60 r17 back. You can go up size to 150 back and 110 front up to you

Used to up sizes years ago, there is a limit. Fatter tyre looks good. Can waste a lot of money if you get it wrong.
It's a waste either way. IMO you don't really need it. But in my case I might need it as I get down to the far edge!!

By the way its 110/70r17 front and 140/70r17 rear. Sure

Still got the original? Not a lot of wear. Still dubious about the quality of factory fit.

The original tires are okay for me. I've got about 8k them and I'm in no hurry to change them. They slip a bit and don't give the confidence that some Pirelli would. But either way they work and get the job done.

About the same. No need to throw it into a corner, not a lot where I live. Will stick with original till needs a change. When changed will get a better tyre. The original is the only tyre I have ever had that has spun up.

with the right conditions any tire will spin up. But yea it about why spend extra money when you don't really need it. I'm just not in the best financial situation at the moment. If I had a spare 6k then share why not. But I would probably buy an exhaust or some steal breaded break lines with a brembo front master. But that will run me a little more than 6k

Granted, ride the same. Know the tyres limits and ride within. No bling on my bike, still bog standard. Went to buy some gloves this week at an independent dealer, gorgeous Ducati Monster for 450,000 there. Thinking.

  14. and that in Thailand...Don't know what some crazy US cop would have done....
shoot him if he were black...

Why is the US always thrown in the mix?

Not sure. Where there is smoke there is fire?

Not necessarily - We use smoke simulators for fire drills

Think the point was that nowhere is perfect. Wish to compare another country? Most have their stereotypes. US was mentioned but probably because they are often used as a benchmark for other countries behavior.

  15. Got to love those self-righteous foreigners that will complain non-stop about the week law enforcement, corrupt police, poor driving standards but themselves are, of course, above the law (or so they think).

In the US he would have been tazered multiple times:-)

Which is one of the reasons I live in Thailand and not the US... I can do pretty much whatever I want here as long as I don't piss someone off, especially the BiB... And without fear of being shot while doing it...

Now back to the tattoo debate...

Would agree. If you get nicked pay up. No point complaining.

As for tats, each to their own.

  16. is there someone preying on young western girls at that resort?

It sure looks like it. A cold blooded serial killer is a better description.

Now was that necessary - may I call you ignorant?

Two Western people were killed by Myanmar illegals and you say that there is a serial killer on the loose!!!

You really believe they were murdered by those Burmese boys?

Sure the Burmese were found guilty but ... did they really do it???

Trial hasn't taken place yet. No facts required when posting here though.

But they have been found guilty, guilty by association of being on that island by all of Thailand it would seem and by some know-it-all-silver-surfers.

Which category do you fit into?

Please share some 'facts' about yourself.

Got a bit of a hangover this morning, that's a fact.
