  1. I will be either in a new job here with another work permit and non-imm visa or working elsewhere.

At least now we know that it is possible to stay 60 days in a row with tourist visas and 30 day stamps for tourists. It is still unclear if I would be granted another tourist visa or 30 day stamp if I was to try again. This is the old 'time will tell' scenario eveyone has been talking about.

  2. Ok, since I finished my contract April/May this year and my work permit expired I have been holidaying in Thailand and the region doeen doing some travel and whatever. I have been getting 30 day visa exempt stamps at the borders when I come in. I now have a new passport (old one full) which shows entry on visa exempt x 1 before October.

Since October, I have come in twice on visa exempt, and each time given 30 days and a '1' and '2' written above the stamps (first around 5 October - then around 3 November). 30 days was running out so went this time to Penang and applied for a 2 month tourist visa. No problems. Got it and came in yesterday and was stamped to 31 January.

So it seems possible to stay longer than 90 days on a combination of visa exempt stamps and tourist visas. This might answer some questions for many.

Got the Air Asia morning flight down, on time, landed bang on 10 am and used an agent to collect me. Went straight to agents office, filled in form, they got it in on time and I picked visa up next day. Stayed a few extra days and got the Air Asia afternoon flight out which was also on time.

No complaints and a nice stay in Georgetown and Batu Feringgi.

  3. So i just called the embassy in PP and after about 30 seconds of different people getting on the phone and saying "hanlooo" and then nothing and then giggling in back ground...a guy comes on and talks and tells me I can get a 2 month tourist visa, need photo and copy etc, but it takes 3 working days!

Any other experience? Is it worth getting a visa service in PP to do it?

  4. It doesn't matter if you have a 60 day tourist visa or a 30 day entry permit at border. They all count the same according to official policy towards the 90 day limit in 6 months. But of course, enforcing it is a totally different matter entirely.

Wrong. (well as far as my understanding goes anyway).

I thought the 90 days was 90 out of 180 while on a 30 day entry permit. I thought when coming in on any other sort of visa (tourist included) the days weren't counted towards the 90.

But I guess as mentioned already, no one really knows...

  5. Why do Thais press the open button in the lift when it gets to a floor - as if it will not open automatically?

Why will Thais not move for you when coming head on at them, even when they are walking several abreast and clearly blocking your rightful passage?

Why are there so many degenerate farangs in Bangkok?

Why do I sweat more when I'm standing still and less when walking?

Why, when people are the first to reply to a post, do they often copy the actual post and include it in their reply, as if we needed reminding of what they were replying to?

Why, when the OP has specifically asked for no answers, must people feel the need to try to provide answers?

  6. Stupid responses by some. Not all guys want a relationship with someone who has nothing at all in common with them, can't engage in an decent conversation and considers 'face' more important than moral values.

You will find them at all the usual nightclub haunts posted, also Cheap Charlies (actually there will be a few there tonight as it happens), at chamber networking functions, especially European Young Professionals and Bangkok Young Professionals, and in sporting clubs such as Southerners.

    There are plenty...

  7. Jeez, that is a great post Swagman (or Swagwoman?). That is similar to how I have understood it but never could put it so well.

This, in part, explains why many Thai woman might be with an older less attractive man (farang or not) which might puzzle a lot of Westerners.

Many cultures haven't come from a history of having the luxury to marry for love, so it is often not the first thing thought of when considering a partner - sad as it may sound to us romantics.
