I will be either in a new job here with another work permit and non-imm visa or working elsewhere.
At least now we know that it is possible to stay 60 days in a row with tourist visas and 30 day stamps for tourists. It is still unclear if I would be granted another tourist visa or 30 day stamp if I was to try again. This is the old 'time will tell' scenario eveyone has been talking about.

The Thai consulate in Penang just gave me a 60 day tourist visa after 3 30 day stamps, one before October and two after. Went with an agent.
Immigration stmped me 60 days at the airport no problem.

Ok, since I finished my contract April/May this year and my work permit expired I have been holidaying in Thailand and the region doeen doing some travel and whatever. I have been getting 30 day visa exempt stamps at the borders when I come in. I now have a new passport (old one full) which shows entry on visa exempt x 1 before October.
Since October, I have come in twice on visa exempt, and each time given 30 days and a '1' and '2' written above the stamps (first around 5 October - then around 3 November). 30 days was running out so went this time to Penang and applied for a 2 month tourist visa. No problems. Got it and came in yesterday and was stamped to 31 January.
So it seems possible to stay longer than 90 days on a combination of visa exempt stamps and tourist visas. This might answer some questions for many.
Got the Air Asia morning flight down, on time, landed bang on 10 am and used an agent to collect me. Went straight to agents office, filled in form, they got it in on time and I picked visa up next day. Stayed a few extra days and got the Air Asia afternoon flight out which was also on time.
No complaints and a nice stay in Georgetown and Batu Feringgi.

Awesome game!!! Mason's break and grubber was impressive. Bloody tough game I must say. After growing up a leaguey then converting to Union the last few years and going off league a bit, this series has got me back on the bandwagon!

The 'harried-ness' is due to committments I have on Monday. Need to be back and can't leave till Thursday so I've got 2 days to do it. Its not the expense. Plus the missus has to be back for work. I am quite happy to spend a few days in Penang.

I thought 90 tourist visas were pretty rare these days?

Thanks guys!
Taxi to consulate or taxi to agent?

Presuming its on time, what are my chances of getting my tourist visa application in by midday at Thai consulate or agent?
What is the best way from the airport and how long will it take?

This city always seems to be ignored when talking about tourist visas. Anyone got any experiences?
Otherwise guess Penang is the best bet?
-
Cheers for that. Think I will avoid it.
What about Hanoi - any experience?

Any word about Phnom Penh? I am wanting to head there next weekend? Anyone recommend I DON'T go there for a 2 month tourist visa?
-
So i just called the embassy in PP and after about 30 seconds of different people getting on the phone and saying "hanlooo" and then nothing and then giggling in back ground...a guy comes on and talks and tells me I can get a 2 month tourist visa, need photo and copy etc, but it takes 3 working days!
Any other experience? Is it worth getting a visa service in PP to do it?
-
Anyone applied for a 2 month tourist visa in Phnom Penh recently? I have only a couple of 30 days stamps in my passport and no visas. Should I expect any problems?
If so, what neighbouring embassy is advisable for this?
Also, can I present it one day and get it back the next?

The Office in soi 33 is owned by an Aussie.
The BUS STOP in soi 4 is owned by an Aussie and is a popular Aussie hangout.
And as mentioned, Tenderloins is owned by an Aussie and has an Aussie feel about it.

It doesn't matter if you have a 60 day tourist visa or a 30 day entry permit at border. They all count the same according to official policy towards the 90 day limit in 6 months. But of course, enforcing it is a totally different matter entirely.
Wrong. (well as far as my understanding goes anyway).
I thought the 90 days was 90 out of 180 while on a 30 day entry permit. I thought when coming in on any other sort of visa (tourist included) the days weren't counted towards the 90.
But I guess as mentioned already, no one really knows...
-
It's max 90days(3x30) stay on visa exempt in every/any 180 day period
So on day 90, you leave, go to neighboring country, get a tourist visa for 2 months, and come back on day 92 (for example), you will be allowed in to stay until day 152 (60 days)???

That's a shame. It hasn't happened to me before. Also a shame ABC doesn't show it live. But there really only seems to be 2 places with that PNG feed and thats the Office and Bus Stop so we are at their mercy I guess.
-
For live coverage via the Papua New Guinea satelite feed, the Office in soi 33 shows all Tri-Nations games.
The Bus Stop may or may not be showing and likely won't have sound.

Why do Thais press the open button in the lift when it gets to a floor - as if it will not open automatically?
Why will Thais not move for you when coming head on at them, even when they are walking several abreast and clearly blocking your rightful passage?
Why are there so many degenerate farangs in Bangkok?
Why do I sweat more when I'm standing still and less when walking?
Why, when people are the first to reply to a post, do they often copy the actual post and include it in their reply, as if we needed reminding of what they were replying to?
Why, when the OP has specifically asked for no answers, must people feel the need to try to provide answers?

I have always found the Thai consulate in Sydney very helpful regarding visas, but haven't been back there for some time. Anyone applied for a non-imm B or any other visa there recently? Are they giving 90 days or 1 year?
Cheerio...

Hi, have family coming soon and planning a holiday in Krabi for a week or so. Would rather rent a multi room villa instead of hotel rooms.
Have heard there are some good ones around Ao Nang but happy for suggestions anywhere.
Cheers...

Stupid responses by some. Not all guys want a relationship with someone who has nothing at all in common with them, can't engage in an decent conversation and considers 'face' more important than moral values.
You will find them at all the usual nightclub haunts posted, also Cheap Charlies (actually there will be a few there tonight as it happens), at chamber networking functions, especially European Young Professionals and Bangkok Young Professionals, and in sporting clubs such as Southerners.
There are plenty...

Jeez, that is a great post Swagman (or Swagwoman?). That is similar to how I have understood it but never could put it so well.
This, in part, explains why many Thai woman might be with an older less attractive man (farang or not) which might puzzle a lot of Westerners.
Many cultures haven't come from a history of having the luxury to marry for love, so it is often not the first thing thought of when considering a partner - sad as it may sound to us romantics.
