Well, you only have to look at a map, and Saraburi is a on a kind of traffic nexus, and is not too far away from the economic centre of Thailand (East BKK down to Rayong), a major tourist artery (Bangkok and Ayutthaya to Changmai), and a labour source (Khorat and Bangkok). Its not far from the main airports, and is connected to the road routes to Burma, Laos, and Cambodia, and it's just off the floodplain. New capitals have a tendency to be centrally located, so it seems likely that the zone from Saraburi to Chachoengsao and adjoining bits of Nakhon Nayok, NE Chonburi, and Pluak Daeng of Rayong will be considered.

There are still many manufacturing industries in Bangkok which should be moved out. Also the wholesalers can be moved out. Bangkok can remain as the financial centers and headquarters of regional companies. Government services can remain while universities should be re-located. There should also be a moratorium on new condos, hotels and malls.

The Future Forward Party could expect a lese majeste accusation soon if they keep pushing this one.

They do have Parliamentary privilege which is a legal immunity enjoyed by members of certain legislatures, in which legislators are granted protection against civil or criminal liability for actions done or statements made in the course of their legislative duties.

Sorry, Eric, I have to disagree with you. 'A vote of no confidence' - and every and all 'laws' and 'procedures' - are clearly a complete and meaningless joke now in this land. The junta reign supreme.

The ruling mob CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT - IN PERPETUITY. No laws, rules, edicts, parliaments, politicians or anything at all can stop them (that's surely so obvious and plain by now) -

UNLESS THE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF THAI PEOPLE DECIDE OTHERWISE (and don't hold your breath on that one!).

I agree with you but respectfully wish to point out that the junta don't reign supreme. The junta act on the behest of larger power. In an way, I see the oath omission has a double edge jeopardy for this government that their destiny is not in their hands.

Watching the debate and seeing Prayut blandly sitting there while the charges were brought against him by the Opposition made me think: 'He can do what he likes - say what he wants, or say nothing at all; he has no need to fear: he is PROTECTED. Those opposing him are like mere ants. They have no power'.

And why do they have no real power? Simple: because the Thai people en bloc have chosen not to give that power to those brave dissidents - for nearly six long years.

It is clear: freedom and human dignity do not mean enough to the Thais. They are simply not willing to fight for it.

End of story. Game over and done. The Powers That Should Not Be have won - without anything like a valiant fight from the millions and MILLIONS of Thai people ...

I share your frustration but will not think that Thailand need another civil unrest after the carnage by the military in the last decade. It will damage the economy and the ordinary people will suffer; not the rich and powerful. We will have to see how the opposition representatives will move with a vote of no confidence. The prime minister can be removed by a vote of no confidence. However the process can't be repeated within one parliamentary session so the opposition lawmaker must meticulously planned and calculated their move with a good chance to win.

The choice of new capital site should be a mixture of geology, economics, transport links, and centrality.

Places like Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok seem more suitable than Nakhon Ratchasima. The empty space north of Rayong that comprises the empty bit of Chachoengsao is maybe more economically suitable.

I believed these are the 4 satellite cities that was in previous government plan. Prayut need not have to be visionary (not that he has) but just copy previous government plan like he did with the infrastructure and water management plans.

Yes Indonesia is moving its capital, deal done according to the politicians.

Which other neighbour of Thailand recently moved capitals? Myanmar ? Bet Prayut won't go down the route of changing the country's name just to keep up with the neighbours.

It still need go through the Indonesia Parliament to get the greenlight. The location in East Kalimantan has been identified.

Deputy PM Prawit: Flood news, updates to be broadcast every day

Got to be a big fat joke to ask for updates now. The storm was forming in Mid August and the government has the meteorological warning of storm Podul and also a tropical depression forming in the South China Sea. By 29 August, the storm has hit with enormous flooding and 32 people has been killed due to the flooding and number of people have already moved to emergency stations. The Fatso now decided to ask for flood updates. Will someone slapped a malfeasance on this inept government.

They were convicted with proof of corruption yet you still defend them. I guess we should not go after people who kill others with their car either as long as red bull guy walks free. I hope you see the error of your ways once.

I rather have some criminals punished then none at all just imagine the thefts and chaos.

You still don’t get it. I am not condoning the criminal indictment but am questioning the justice system. You just can’t see the forest from the trees.
