The pro Shin fanboy posters have already started to play your attached article down, probably without even bothering to read it!

They prefer to present anyone anti Junta as honest, ethical, a man/woman of the people and out for real democracy. Just like Thaksin and his pretty were!

Come on BB. You read that stuff from Neo. Funded by Russia and being call the poster child of fake news. What happen to you?

The junta’s brainchild – the Eastern Economic Corridor –

Rich beyond comprehension. EEC was promoted by Ahbisit to Japanese automobile manufacturer investors and by Yingluck who emphasized on physical connectivity and linkages to Laos and China. Even Somkid's EEC initiative on being the 'Kitchen to the world' was borrowed from her initiative and her push for investments on automobiles, hard disk drives and electronic products. More like a junta's copycat like all the other economic initiatives.

What do you expect from a military led regime... a fair playing field?

Look at all the military regimes world-wide over the last 70 years & you get some idea of how it usually plays out!

I thought this is a benevolent "good people" military; different from regimes world wide. At least this was how it is being framed by our local junta apologists.

I would say that it will probably bankrupt the SRT but they are there already.

I Googled SRT debts and came up with this from the Nation back in 2016.

SRT and other state owned enterprises will never be bankrupt under the law. I think this kind of law applies to most countries. Tax payers will have to bear the burden.

I thought the rail link to Laos was originally a project that was started by the Abhisit Vejjajiva government? And after that the Yingluck Shinawatra government later stopped it?

The rail link that you referring was an Asean initiative in 1995, long before the China’s Belt and Road project. It was supposed to build a railway from SIngapore to Kumming; not Laos. The project was never implemented. This China and Thailand “Road and Belt” rail link to Laos was a junta and China initiative with financing and technologies from China.

Your Siam? Are you a native Thai? Here, listen to what my PM had to say about China:

If you are a native Thai, better learn to detect Western anti-China propaganda.

Developing country status is not something that you can simply give up. To be considered a developed country, the GDP per capita must be over $12,000 per year. China's GDP per capita is around $9,000.

Your PM is elected and he therefore speak for the people and will be accountable in the next election. This junta PM is not elected and therefore do not represent the feelings of the people and unaccountable to his policies. Non of his policies were discussed and debated in Parliament. You need to understand the underlying sentiments of the people and judged fairly.

  7. The Thai economy has been harmed since the coup. What is it so hard to understand that every coup dealt a body blow to economy. We nose dived to GDP growth in 2014 to 0.7% and since then struggled to achieve the growth of past and previous elected governments. When we hit such a low GDP base, anything above was spun as positive. To put salt to injury, the junta messed up the election to stay in power and created even more harmed to the economy. They embarked on excessive defense spending rather than put more money to creat productivity like in education and healthcare. They spurged on large infrastructure spending without determining if they will be profitable. The political uncertainty scared off FDI which went to Vietnam and other neighboring countries. Pity that the BOT is not forthright in condemning the junta and coups in general for harming the economy.

He also plans to extend cooperation in support of the Thailand 4.0 policy and the Eastern Economic Corridor that will link economies in the sub-region.

Amazing he can do all that while in caretaker mode and parliament not in session. Remember a time there was an uproar when the elected government agreed on the Chea Vichea temple as world heritage site without parliament approval.

I agree, definitely not the 'ideal' situation politically. While loud motorbikes and partying teens can be annoying at least I don't have to listen to war weapons fired on my soi or getting my ass burned going to a torched mall or read about another child being the victim of a RPG round. While I agree accountability to folks has a low priority, what I've seen here since '03 is that NO politician has been accountable to anyone and the ones that were being held accountable to the people, ran out of the country like the rats they were.

Yes we read lots about those killings on both sides with large portion of fatalities by the hands of soldiers firing war weapons from their armoured vehicles or military snipers. We also read about indictments on one side and those who choose to live aboard than end up dead in the cells or dumped in Mekong River. The fortunate correctly aligned need not fear the law too.

In the 16 yrs I've been here I've never seen a reduction but even if Prayut was raising people from the dead you'll please no one here. Most expats blame him for causing them to not having enough money to cover a visa.

Most expats blame him for being a non elected coup lying ex-general. He can say nothing he like without accountability to the people. That’s why he is being blame for saying a lot but really not doing much.

Nothing in the article was an attempt to convince  as I read it. To me it was a clever enough illustration of the naive polarization of political persuasion.

Graft and corruption exists regardless. That reality is that one side it is devilishly blatant  and on the other angelically disguised which makes no honest difference in effect.

No difference in effect but certainly difference in consequence. One side was and is being pursued with indictments, assets confiscation, political bans, party dissolution etc while the other side was and still is untouchable and out of reach by the law. Honestly the author should labeled the article "democracy vs corrupt coup".
