And while the protestors protest the PDRC leaders are all smiles just before they face their insurrection charges.
I wonder what their punishment will be.
Insurrection is a violent uprising against an authority or government.
It's going to be tough to prove the peaceful protesters were violent.
And now that the military has stepped in, it's going to be tough to prove that PDRC wasn't right for protesting.
Might be better to wait for a conviction before contemplating any penalties.
Just more vacuous charges by the DSI & CAPO who are really the ones most deserving of investigation.

So the number of farmers waiting to be paid is 80,000.
Somewhat adrift of the fork tongued PTP spokesman's claim of only 3000.
Expose more lies expose the <deleted> the nation has been fed by the PTP
We don't know the number of people who are owed money. We only know that suddenly who will get paid is 80,000 people. Do you think it would be the first time that some names appeared on the list of who should get money.
So you are accusing the military of adding 77,000 names to the list.
My observation is that Prayuth doesn't suffer monkey business gladly.
The odds are greater that PTP lied.
Again.

Some powerful images of the protests on the latest video on the BBC website.
More photographers than Red Shirt protesters.
anti-coup protesters actually
Check yesterday's Live Feed. Red Shirt protesters actually.

1 less than 8 hours over two days does not constitute much of a chance to sit down and thrash out a solution .... that is a lack of patience.
At the first meeting, Prayuth told told each delegation to come back the next day with three items on which they could compromise. Each team had around 20 hours to prepare for the next meeting. It seems to me that Prayuth wanted to see progress, and not necessarily the solution on the second day.
On Thursday or Friday of the previous week, Suthep aligned with the Senate showing both his ability and willingness to compromise.
Thaksin, on the other hand, forbid PTP & UDD to compromise, which sealed the fate of the negotiations and forced Prayuth's hand.
3 Your claim of a rent a mob is based on nothing but speculation, it could be but equally it may very well not be, you really think people cant protest here based on their own opinions or outrage ?
If you check Sunday's Live Feed, the anti-coup protesters have already admitted to being a Red organization. And we all know what that means.

Anybody know why the stored rice is not being sold on the world market for whatever Thailand can get for it? And the money used to pay at least part of what's owed?
I heard today that under the rules of the WTO (World Trade Organization), subsidized crops and/or subsidized manf goods cannot be sold internationally, as it represents unfair competition. I also heard that the US and other large members of the G8 or G20 were putting a great deal of pressure on Thailand not to sell its warehoused rice on the international market -- or face sanctions if they try.
Has anyone else heard anything about this?
It seems the government tried dumping a load of rice just before they got the boot.

How stupidly cleaver of the General to make a payment to the farmers that should ensure him some support from the one place that he needs most, the hart of the red country. Chuck them a few crumbs to day and screw it back out of them tomorrow.
Shameful.

Court martial is the most effective way of fast tracking the removal of the filth from society instead of choking the civilian courts with apparel after appeal and just trying to drag it out.
You are sat in front of a single set of judges, you have a chance to defend yourself with a limited set of witnesses, then your fate is read out. No appeal, marched straight to prison.
There are people they have in their possession that would be better lead straight to a firing squad, but there you go.
That's just my opinion.
Just like the Nuremberg trials.... the sooner you round up and deal with all the scum, the quicker the place can recover.
Expect a while bunch of that 150 scumbags to get an extension to their 'rest'... those are the ones who will be heading off for a long time. The army are already compiling the evidence on the UDD lot, I doubt we will ever see Jatts again, or Thida.
Well can only hope...

So who appointed the judges, and who made the laws and institutions through which Yingluck has been brought down. What was she guilty of again? Not corruption you will find.
There are still cases working their way through the system.
There are still investigations ongoing.
The future does not look bright for Yingluck.

The Army left Chidlom at around 3:00 and Chitlom/Ploenchit BTS stations were reopened. Still a few protesters and the typically ineffective Police opposite Central World but most protesters seem to be heading to Victory Monument.
Lots of angry shouting and emotion - I don't think anyone is being paid to demonstrate and with such strength of feeling I worry about the future of this country.
Of course they're being paid.
And the Reds were just as loud and obnoxious back in 2010.

Oh, those protesters against coup?
How many of them had received their 400baht?
The Red's couriers have been severely hampered due to martial law, and are now paying them off in french fries.

Don't know if McDonald's is a pro-government company or not. But 7/11 sure is, and they closed shop quickly when they saw the Reds coming!
I'm lovin'it!
-
Good! I hope they do come out to protest. Easier to round them up that way.
I do not support either side - but why should they be arrested just for being red shirts? I understand the need for peace - but if they are not violent - why should they be arrested?
I also support a temporary martial law but I don't agree with the news black out and would like to hear a timetable about when they expect to return to democratic rule.
If there are more than five, round them up!

BANGKOK: -- About 200 people staged a protest against the military takeover at Ratchaprasong shopping district this morning.
The protesters, who called themselves Red Sunday group, gathered in front of McDonald outlet and shouted abuses at a group of army troops dispatched to contain the protest.
Meanwhile Mr Sombat Booonngarm-anong, editor of Lai Chud magazine and a supporter of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, posted a message in his Facebook page threatening to launch a protest campaign, Eat Mc to Protest against Coup, every Sunday at McDonald outlet against the coup.
He urges supporters of his campaign to wear red and to gather in front of designated McDonald outlets to conduct any conceivable activities such as eating or exercising.
More thuggish behavior by the Reds.

Thailands Defense budget in 2013 was 178,441,000,000 Baht. The US Defense funding cuts are only a political gesture. US has for years threatened to downgrade Thailand to Tier 3 status due to human rights abuses, that includes the militarys involvement, that again would be a political gesture with no meaningful financial measures.
Wasn't Thailand one of the countries where rendition was used after middle-eastern prisonners were shipped halfway around the globe by the U.S.?
Yeah. Been to Soi 3 lately? They came. They saw. They loved the place!

So it's pretty clear where the United States stands in the current power play, wouldn't you say?
Considering the US cut aid by only $3M, it looks like the US quietly supports the current power play.
You're missing a hellova lot in this, historically between the two countries and presently.
It was a token gesture by Obama, and nothing more. The least he could have done considering the mounting pressure he's under.
Obama is telling Prayuth, "I gotta do something over here because I'm really in the weeds. So I gotta say I'm holding something back, but here's $7M; go have some fun. And, hey, now that Yingluck is free, could you send her over for another visit?"

Sad situation for this mother. Unfortunately, because of the coup there is no Court - only General Prayuth. And you know how he feels about red shirts.
Prayuth has specifically said he is preserving the courts.
Although some might prefer military tribunals, watching the cases against PTP in the courts will have to do.

That her daughter was a red shirt who got killed, let me rethink the whole innocents of the victims killed in 2010.
I witnessed red shirts shooting with automatic rifles towards the army, on Phatunam that day, so wonder if some of the deaths were really so innocent.
You and me both.

Beauty!

Yes PTP is corrupt. Solving it by ripping up another constitution appointing a bunch who are only 50% less corrupt at the core is NOT A SOLUTION, it is a sticking plaster.
Reducing corruption by 50% is a big deal, and a hella good start!
-
Ironically Yingluck said the same thing about Thawil's transfer and she was removed from office by the Constitutional Court. But Prayuth doesn't need to be concerned about his actions; he suspended the Constitution and eliminated the Court until further notice.
Hadn't heard Prayuth eliminated the Court; in fact, earlier he specifically said he was preserving the Court.

Interesting the protesters today have limited their use of English signs?
And why are they so afraid of wearing their red shirts?
because they're not all 'red shirts'.
RT@pakhead: There are people identifying themselves as red shirt leaders organising Amarin protest.

Under martial law, the Red Shirts chose to hold a demonstration. They deserve to be dealt with appropriately.
