"Officers surmised that the perpetrator did not have lethal intentions and merely sought to intimidate Mai’s family".The officer surmised wrong when you consider the projectile entered the back of the childs neck.
If the gunman wanted to intimidate only then you put a shot into the house at a higher level that has less chance of killing any occupants.

Of course the moderators will remain an important part of the forum, yet the question on will there be change is a fair and valid question.

I'm thinking when was this legislation brought in ? do we perhaps in all my wisdom I'm thinking during John Howard's era?
Ned Kelleys era I would say.
The draconian rules on portability of pension points earned have never been challenged in a court of law.
When you consider how many immigrants that have earned pension points and receive nothing due to the portability rules it is surprising that there has not been any challenge through the courts.
Just pure theft.

We've all got different circumstances.
Some single, some married, some married with kids.
Different budgets etc.
Scorecard had access to the RSL and cheap rent that most won't before he returned to Thailand.
Still kicking has gotten himself cheap rent but looks as if he's staying in Oz.
My biggest gripe is that you have to do it (return to Oz) if you want the pension.
But it is what it is I guess.
It is what it is because nobody being ripped off by the Australian goverment is ready to do something about it .
Sadly that incudes my self.

Must be living like a lord with 15000 baht more each month than a miser.

When you offer money to the other party it's called a settlement offer and is something completely normal and common thing to do. The other party can accept the settlement and that's that. Or they refuse and press on which is what this woman did. But there is no bribe. It would be a bribe if they paid off the police, the judge or other third parties. But this is not a bribe.
Out of court settlement .I agree with your comment

And what happens when you have a dispute with your tenant and he visits the Revenue Department with his girlfriend and shows all the transfers he has made in to the account of the landlord who just happens to be your wife. I guess your accountant would say mai pen rai!
Be a well behaved landlord and you should avoid that scenario.

Yes exactly. When they restocking the fridges they don't move the bottles from the back to the front. The other thing some bars do is turn the fridges off overnight and then on when they open. The fridge then has to work extra hard to chill the beer and use more electricity. At home my beer always goes from the fridge to the freezer for 30 minutes before I drink it, I like it ice cold. I also drink from a Yeti stainless steel tumbler which keeps the beer ice cold in these hot temperatures.
Agree, most bars have little idea about the importance of cold fresh beer .
OK, I try your 30 minutes in the freezer before consuming.

The supermarkets like Big C and Lotus's are the worse. They do not rotate their beer stocks. Its quite common to see a large stock of beer ie Leo with the new cases on top whilst underneath there are cases months old.
Seen the same rotation method in bars and when you point to there ignorance they look at you like you are mad.
I had a bad experiance in a bar one time when buying a large bottle of chang . The taste was terrible and voiced my objection to the bar staff and i was informed that we dont drink beer so we would not know if it was good or bad .
They also have bad planning when to get a fresh load of beer into the fridge to maintain a supply of cold beer. I am often served hot beer and need a large amount of ice to be made drinkable which results in watered down beer.
I drink at home more often now.

He doesn't really seem to fit the profile of a 'high-risk foreigner', but he shouldn't have overstayed his visa.. At his age, and assuming he has a nice Norwegian pension-check coming every month, it's quite easy for him to get a proper (non-o) long-term visa.
Not all Norwegian pensioners end up with all there pension if they owe child maintenance over the years.
The law allows the state to take a large percentage of there pension when owing child maintenance which many Norwegians fit that situation.

His wife has grandchildren and the man has paid a dowry?
I understand that there is no obligation for a dowry when a woman has a previous relationship with children.
I am sure you would not see any Thai males lining up to do the same.

This was normal behaviour in Bali where I just left, due to them. They stole from the small mom and pop grocery shops, and they were well known for running off without paying for their bills at restaurants. In fact they had to start making people pay in advance because of them.
Mcdonalds demand you pay in advance .
Perhaps the company were protecting themselves from Russian customers.
