  1. I have seen that Australia has a similar problem as the UK has also.

I saw that Norway has NOT a problem. On there lead up to there national day on the 17th of May the local people would them selves clean up any rubbish on the sides of roads.

Thailand is not as bad as other  countries.

I pick up rubbish within around 200 meters of our house. Not a strain to do.

That's one opinion, though not sure I agree with.  In USA, welfare system and Social Security Disability certain assist folks, though barely at a level of existence, but better than nothing.  Healthcare is outrageously expensive and not that accessible.

My living in a lower cost of living country, especially if labor is involved, isn't really my concern or doing.   If I wasn't here, nothing would change, except a few folks, might not be employed.   Especially the ones contracted and worked for the builder of our houses, or installation of our solar system.  Or at the auto manufacturer or dealers for the 5 new cars I've purchased since being here.

As long as I'm spending money, injecting that into the economy, Thai's are benefiting.  Win win for all.   I certainly don't feel guilty or ashamed of my choices, and doubt if they resent me.  Mutually beneficial for all involved.

If the locals aren't happy with the govt's support of them, that's an issue for them, not me.  I can't help or hinder that, except to provide work and income for them, every time I spend my pensions.

Yes its just my opinion, yet USA is not a typical nanny state, far from it compared to many countries in Europe where health care is provided from the taxes each citizen pays.

I realise that most foreigners living in Thailand believe as you that we are doing them a favour by spending money here. I think many Thais think differently.

I think many Thais do indeed resent the difference in income of foreigners.

I am quite sure the Thai people are not happy with there government when the majority saw there vote disposed of in the last election.

  3. I used an agent in a different area for the retirement visa for two years and the 90 day reports were done for free by the agent.

I just had two send him copies of passport and visa details to the agent 3 weeks before the due date .

This year I did the 12 month visa myself and i will have to do the 90 day report at the end of April.

I hope all goes well after 2 years of using agents.

It's best not to get on a motorbike in Thailand no matter how good the clothing you are wearing. Motorbikes are a death wish in Thailand.

Obviously motorcycle's are higher risk where ever you are in the world.

If you can't handle them don't ride them .

Keep left in Thailand by the way, no wonder you don't want to get on a motorcycle in Thailand.

Imagine also. In order for this new invention to work, the fuel (excluding all the work that goes into extraction and refining) would need to be pumped into huge ocean going tankers to be shipped all around the world. Any accident on the high seas could cause oil spills and ecological disasters. Then, it would need to be loaded onto road going tankers and delivered to the thousands of petrol stations around the country. Talk about wear and tear on the poor roads (a 2 ton electric SUV does not come close in weight to these oil tankers. Imagine if one of these have an accident and explodes). All these vehicular traffic just adds to extra congestion on the roads as well as noise and air pollution.

The ev SUV will have more chance of killing pedestrians, especially in cities around the world.

Pathetic comparison you raise about this type of transport.

The BOT day rate of 2.5% is probably the lowest rate in SE Asia

If ethical and responsible lending was applied instead of the current gouging employed by the Lenders there would be no problem.

With Household Debt regularly posted at over 16 Trillion Baht, the recently published numbers for current Debt outstanding is " special Mention " and NPl " in the region of 1.3 Trillion

That as a percentage is roughly 8.13 %

Why are figures of 2,5 % on bad debt seen published

Who are the Authorities trying to fool

From what I understand about Thai banks is that if they declare that a loan is not recoverable then they must place an equal sum lost from the loan into there reserves, That would give the banks a problem so it is better to sit on there bad loans.

I would certainly like to see far fewer farangs here. Maybe they could jack up the 800K in the bank for inflation over the past 20 years....it might make it 2 million and jack up the income required to 200K per month, and then treat the people here much better than now and stop this vile overcharging for farangs.

My only suggestion is for you to change your name to retard.

    Good luck with your wishes

  8. I am not surprised that China is hurting Thai manufacturers and suppliers.

I bought three 6500 watt instantaneous water heaters from China through lazada for the price of one in Thailand.

Now I am waiting for a 12kwh diesel generator from China that is costing 48000 baht with an automatic transfer switch freight and taxes paid through Alibaba.

Local suppliers are up in 65000 baht plus for the same unit.

agreed ... unit price is not excessive but usage seems to be; meter needs checking and / or recalibrating

Have the airconditioners checked for how much electricity is being used . Maybe the airconditioners are not so high end anymore.

If this a 1 year extension of a previous 1 year extension then they will quite possibly want a 12 month statement showing every transaction to be sure your balance never dropped below the required minimum amount.

They won't accept one though printed from your online banking. You will need an official one printed by the bank no older than a week from your extension application date.

The ones from the bank usually only show transaction amount, date, and type of transaction. Usually it doesn't show payee or payer.

In the future use a different bank account for your daily expenses. Could even setup a separate account at the same bank just for that. This way in the future your 12 month statement won't show anything more than the ongoing balance and the interest deposits.

I had a 12 month statement accepted at Chiang Mai immigration a few weeks back that I downloaded myself from internet banking.

There are two immediate things that could be done :

    1) Put bars on the drains. If you walk along Sukhumvit now, there is universal bars on every drain. The rats use these drains to sneak up and down, and live down there on mass. In Silom barely any drain has bars on them, and the ones that did, have been chewed up many years ago by the rats.

    2) Rubbish collection. There needs to be a better system than just chucking rubbish on the streets in black bags.

    3) A better breed of cats set lose. Cats are rats natural predators, but the breed of rats around Silom are bigger than the cats. We need some well trained hardcore cats.

You must be really silly to say let the rat population grow and nothing can be done.

Disposal of food waste is the main problem in Thailand.

There needs to be a system to collect food waste only.

Less food for the rats can only be a positive.

I find my smartphone quite useful for things like reading books ( IMO Kindles are obsolete ), playing music, or having video calls with friends and relatives. They are multi-functional. I have not worn a watch ever since they came on the scene, and they are all I need for the occasional photo or video.

I won't use them for paying bills, due to security concerns.

Thais being among the most social people on the planet, smartphones must have been like manna from heaven.

My only gripe with them is at checkouts, I swear people using them to pay take far longer than cash or a card.

Paying with a phone at a checkout is taking longer than a card for sure , Annoying

Security has not been a problem regarding paying any bills in my three years of internet banking. Useful tool to have.
