  2. Leo has another bar on Naklua soi 18 just down the road from his soon to be closed bar.

When it comes to music venues for jammers (amateur musicians to play together), they have dried up in 2014 like I've never seen before.

RIP in 2014 (where musicians could jam):

    -The Blues Factory.

    -Rose's Garden.

    -The Lounge.

    -Leo's.

    -_________.

  3. I need to renew my 5year licence.

    The documents required are,

    1. copy of passport and visa

    2. copy of work permit.

    3. ?? is a medical required ?

Anything else that I have missed ?

12/23: Renewed my 5 year license today in the afternoon. Some notes:

-A fellow who spoke fluent Thai with an Indian passport was rejected from applying for some reason.

-Had to do color and reaction tests only. Not distance test.

-Watched a gory road accident movie for nearly an hour until our documents were ready (bring a book or play on your phone if you're not into real gore).

405 baht later, I have a 6 year license as I went just after my birthday.

    Any questions?

  4. I'm starting to think the same thing.

I have met people at one of the expat clubs who have been close mutually dependent friends for over 20 years. Through thick and thin.

I've been in town over 10 years although I have been ripped off financially for small amounts by people I was close with.

I recently had a close friend throw me under the bus by revealing some very confidential details about me to a lady I was courting. Women come and go here but from seeing their chat transcript (thanks to her), it was apparent he was making a move for her.

There are many musicians in Pattaya who work together on a very regular basis. One was recently hospitalized and the others who play with the sick player all rallied behind him with frequent visits and whatever help he needed.

I'm at a frustrated point now of feeling somewhat abandoned by people I thought were friends. Maybe best to just keep to myself and everyone as acquaintances.

  5. It's a matter of opinion. I like Brian Thomas (very entertaining) although he plays very seldomly.

Scott Ecie is very entertaining too but also plays seldomly. On a regular basis, there's Patrick the Swede who plays most nights. You need to be active on Facebook to see who is playing where and when.

In the bars, I would recommend Blues Factory on Walking Street.

  6. I've lived everywhere in and surrounding Pattaya and now I'm happiest in Naklua.

I like the food courts of Big C and Central but I don't enjoy living there as you're always pegged as a tourist from tailors, bar girls, baht buses, ladies selling wooden frogs, men selling lazer pointers, etc.

Jomtien has a wider beach road but the closest food courts are on Sukhumvit. When I lived there, I found myself always traveling over the hill to get into the city.

Naklua works for me because my goal was always to assimilate and now I truly have. I live in a 100% Thai apartment. Prices are Thai and the respect I receive is somewhat like that of a native. I also speak fluent Thai (I would expect Thai people to speak English in my country) so joking around with the gentle locals is a pleasure. It seems once they get to soi 6 to the end of Jomtien, they're often pretty ruthless. Out here, it's mellow.

The closest shopping center is Tesco Lotus on North Pattaya road which has a food court. There is even a little park near the fish market which has grass to sit on and is used by families of all ages every night for exercise, dance, sitting on the grass, etc.

This is the real Thailand right here in crazy Pattaya. There's also Banglamung hospital. Want to avoid the long waits? Go at 4am. There are doctors just waiting for emergency cases but when there's nothing, they've got you.
