  1. Umm feel sorry for you but friends are friends BUT there are no friends where money is concerned don't discard these people for not being able to help you maybe just maybe their respective postions are not all that great could be running short themselves.

Do you have any assetts you can sell can you move in with someone explain your postion offer to clean the place do the cooking washing etc to help pay your way it's worth a try...DON'TGIVE UP please

WHATEVER you do don't discard your friends money comes and goes true friends are always there for you.

Wishing you all the very best and I really hope things get better for you tomorrow is another day .

    Take Care

Your post is encouraging. Thank you.

I asked 4 people I'm close to for a loan but not so much for the money but to see the reaction. It wasn't nice. Door slammed in face type of thing. For all they know, I only needed $20 but they wouldn't even ask. One friend, who receives hefty disability payments from US govt, has offered to help without me ever asking (this was a year ago when things were still good for me). He doesn't want me to sell my motorbike. He said "I'm your guardian angel." No, he's heterosexual. :)

Still working on finding a good web designer.

  2. March 4 Update: The wheels are turning. I have not borrowed from anyone but there have been offers from 1 friend. He does not want me to sell my motorbike and has re iterated that the loan is on the table, if it comes to that. I still stand by my feelings that friends, if they can help (have the means), should offer if they perceive or are made aware a friend is struggling. This is exactly what I would do and have done. Everyone else is an acquaintance but I’m very surprised that some people who I really considered close and I have really treated them like brothers have shunned me. Wow, I’m learning a lot. We’re all different and I can’t expect everyone to think like me.

I've written to heaps of web designers around the world. They are a pretentious lot and want thousands of $$ rather than partnership and potentially regular income but some have the entrepreneurial spirit and we are moving forward. I would prefer to run the entire business myself but I cannot post ads from here on free sites like Craigslist. I have no choice but if I work with many people, maybe I’ll be making so much $$ that I won’t care that I give them 50% of the profit. Using past income stats, that’s about $500 each per day. If I make what I used to make doing this same business, the web designers make a lot of money for doing very little. If I’m making a lot of money, then I don’t really care and quite happy if we’re all raking it in.

But this could all fail and then I’ll be no further ahead. So we’ll see how it goes. Dealing with the web designers has kept me busy and having positive thoughts so even if I haven’t made any money yet, it’s nice to have nice thoughts. :)

  3. 5pm: I've been in touch with web designers all day to relaunch the business that made me rich in the first place. Wish me luck smile.png

I'll update this space whether I go up or down within the next few weeks. I can sell my motorbike and go from there. Not taking any loans smile.png.

You've all inspired me in one way or another. Cheers.

Well best of luck and all but based on my experience (many years back) and based upon reading stories more current, it won't be soon before those web designers and all say to themselves:

If he isn't going to pay us and has no money to invest in getting the business up-and-running, what do we need HIM for?

What I'm trying to accomplish now is finding web designers in North America (my target market). I can't afford to order a site myself now so I figure better to split the profits with a designer (for now) who will invest in making the site and handle hosting while owning the site. I handle production of my service, sales, and customer service. We both need each other. I'm the expert in my field. :)

Once I have enough $$, I'll branch out solo and/or have a slew of designers all over N. America, Oz, and Europe, splitting the profit under the aforementioned setup. Both have their merits but I'd rather take it all. :). We'll see how it goes. In talks with many webbys all day yesterday and today. I'm seeing the light...

If you are in North America and can make websites, please contact me. Thank you.

When i won my large lawsuit. I had a shirt that said "i am not a bank". Boy did i ever wear that sucker out.

Needless to lend and needless to borrow, will only lead to sadness and sorrow!

Easy to say all this when you're on the top but ever been hungry? Again, my reaction and yours obviously differ. If I had a few hundred dollars and my friend was homeless and hungry, I would never lecture or turn my back. I've been very close to these people for a long time. They came to me when they had problems (not financial) and I was there 100%. The door shuts on me for financial and at least one is a multi millionaire by inheritance. OK now I'm venting but I hope I can make this work out on my own before lighting charcoal and saying goodbye. Thanks everyone.

How are you going to pay for the charcoal?

Seriously, no need to top yourself. Get some help.

I need 10,000 baht by 3/12 for rent and food. That's all I asked from my friends. I already have the charcoal and metal pan. I have no family in my country so no plane ticket or somewhere to go. I have until the 12th to hopefully get my old business up and drawing income. Wish me luck.

  6. Is there any reason you can't get a job teaching? The standard 30k a month can tide you over until you get your online stuff going again.

One needs a work permit and the correct documents for the ministry of labor and immigration. This takes time and mine is almost gone.

    Very interesting...

What kind of visa are you here on that you don't have money for food or rent or a flight back home

,..... but have enough to qualify for a visa?

Education visa as I'm under 50 years of age. I just paid school which tapped out my last 30,000 baht.

  9.

In Thailand, it is rare for people to pay back money they borrow.

With no employment, plan, or prospects, I am sure they don't think you would / could repay a loan either.

Would you lend money to someone like you?

I do have a plan but it's business so there's no certainty but I used to be rich doing this line of work (online sales) and my friends were always with me when the chips were high. They know my situation and things could be better without having to run back to my country. I cannot afford a plane ticket anyway. I cannot pay my rent or food soon. My friends can help but don't want. If I was in their shoes, I would help a friend. We have a lot of history and that's credit in my eyes. I'm imagining myself in their shoes. Help put food in a friend's mouth? I would never even hesitate and pontificate. They know what I've accomplished and were quite happy to be there for many years when I was spending with them. As soon as my situation changes, who are you?

  10. I've known my best friend for 30 years. Would I loan him money because he can't afford to pay the rent? Hell No! He's financially irresponsible...period. Yes he gets a steady pension. But he lives beyond his means. Now, if something happened because of an accident or unforeseen disaster...that would be different story.

Sounds like either after 10 years your business took a dive and you failed to recognize it or even have a safety plan for back up or you too, are simply irresponsible enough to know when to bail. But then again, I know nothing about your situation other than you seem upset no one around you would loan you money. Need to look "inward" before you look outward. Try a bank.

Thank you for the reply and advice. I hear what you're saying but at the end of the day, if someone cannot pay their rent and feed themselves, friends should turn their back and say "hell no?"

  11. Is this a troll post?

Shouldn't you now be concentrating on what you will eat next week, month or year ?

That's why I asked for the loan. I need to pay my rent and eat. Can't believe my friends wouldn't help a few hundred dollars. They make that every day.

So if you get money for rent and food for one month... what about the month after that ?

I need money to hire people in North America to help me try to make money online. I've sent out dozens of emails today asking business people to partner with me but no replies yet. With my current savings, I cannot hire anyone outright.

  13. Sorry to hear you have come to this situation. I don't think you should hold your friends responsible for your well-being. Friendship is not same as financial support..

    That's my opinion

Sent from my HTC One using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I disagree. You know the expression "through thick and thin?" My mark of a real friend is when they are there not only in the good times. Bear in mind, I'm asking some people who have very good income/savings. One recently inherited millions of dollars. They share with me their highs and lows yet when I come to them with my low, the door is shut. Should I even consider these people friends and continue seeing them? What does it say about our friendship? I've never asked any friend for money before. It's not like this is a habit. "Nobody knows you when you're down and out."

  14. I need advice.

Been living in Thailand 10 years. About to hit rock bottom financially. No idea how to remedy the situation. I've already received help from family. Losing hope and the desire to do anything about it.

I have known some people here between 1-6 years. I asked all for a small loan to cover rent/food. All declined.

In your opinion, are these people my friends? Would you continue talking with people who don't help in your time of need (although they comfortably boast how much money they have)? What does it say about our friendship?

    Serious replies please. Thank you.

  15. Go to The Grill Restaurant. Very Good 200 baht all u can eat or Grill, plus that Soi has some a Good Nightlife... It's on Chiang Phuek Rd near Maharat Hospital, great Party Scene next to 7 Bar , Hotels in the area, close to bus station...

The more I read about The Grill, the positive reviews are non stop. Thanks!

  16. Thank you for all the replies and great tourist info. If I live there as an expat, what can I do from day to day? I don't drink alcohol nor wish to meet the ladies of the night. I am eager to see the park for recreational cycling and I guess meeting Thais at the mall. From my research, this is, it seems, what Korat expats do.

  17. About 70 km West of Korat, on the way to Bangkok, you can visit Khao Yai National Park (Pak Chong).

You'll need transport for this trip though, there is a park entrance fee too.

Also, South of Korat in the Pak Thong Chai amphur is an area known as Wang Nam Khieo, you'll also need transport.

    https://www.google.com.my/search?q=Wang+Nam+Khieo&sa=X&rlz=1T4NOOH_enMY501MY501&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&ei=26r5Uoe2O8SOrgf61YDQCw&ved=0CFoQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=618

This is great for a picnic, love going here and does not cost that much, also Korat Zoo is fun, the night markets are great and if you are lonely at night you can try Ya Mo park in the evening as you will find uni girls looking to make some extra money to help with there uni fee cost biggrin.png

Thank you all. Anything to do in the city itself? People offline have been saying "go to the mall" and not much else. Any hotel recommendations near the mall then please?
