Best move I ever made 10 years ago. Began learning Thai online using YouTube as I was planning my 2nd trip which became the foundation for moving here. I have stayed as far from bar girls as possible and can make some genuine friends. It's all about integrating and Thais are really cool when they see you're also loving their country. I just follow their lead like I won't wear sleeveless shirts or do anything that would considered impolite.
I live in Naklua in a 100% Thai apartment. The Thais here are extremely cool with me and there's a lot of respect going both ways. A lot comes down to the lifting of the language barrier. They see I love their country too so they treat me like an insider - outsider. Like any native, you don't want all these foreigners coming over and never learning the language and only speaking their native language (I cringe a little when foreigners say "thank you" when Kob Khun Krab is so easy to say and remember or "soda water" when nam soda is so easy to say.
Good luck and feel free to send me private message if you have any questions that you don't want to publish. I recommend Naklua for the easy transport, proximity to the beach, you can easily walk to Central, and it's inexpensive. The beach here is quiet and the bulk of the foreign tourists are along the beach but hardly ever east of Naklua road.

I refill my own water bottles in those water refill machines outside my apartment. Never buy new if I can avoid it. Got the same bottles at least 6 months.

The seating of old day was filthy so not worth a seat unless you were heading to the laundromat anyway.
The path is so wide now. I can easily walk or cycle back and forth without a care or a cost. All free
If I'm hot, I have my choice of 3 large and air conditioned shopping centers to cool off, grab a bite, get an ice cream for 9 baht at McDonalds or see a movie. Or walk to the north end and cool off at the Tavern outside the Amari hotel. We are spoiled in this town! It keeps getting better and better.

Do you mean Jenny Star Bar (ladyboys) next to Marine Disco's escalators? In that case, it's long gone. But there are several ladyboy bars around town. The biggest is probably Pook Bar on Soi Buakow.

When you pass a sleeping soi dog curled up peacefullly on the side of the road, you are forced to consider and are never 100% sure whether he will pacivelly allow you to pass by unharmed or leap up and chomp your leg.

Private hospitals are most expensive.
Clinics are often run by doctors on government hospital doctors on their spare time so they are between the two.

The school I attend charges 17k baht annually (cheapest in Pattaya). If you write that you study Russian, you will not get questioned at immigration. I receive a commission so contact me privately and I'll buy lunch.

2 near identically dressed friends/brothers/lover(?) who tend to walk along the beach road path. They wear long trousers and shirts, both their outfits are identical and not compatible with the day time weather. Ever seen them?
At Big C Extra Pattaya Klang, I often see an adult Thai wearing a boy scout uniform and a long walking stick. Clearly has mental issues but seems harmless as security allows him to enter with the stick.
Lastly, and most commonly known is Don from Hawaii and his bird that rides on the back of his motorbike.
Honorable mention is Andy/Sandy, the tall English ladyboy with a big nose.

For the most part, better. I love the skytrain, the big shopping malls on a hot day (basically every day is hot!). I also feel that Thai ladies are eager to meet a farang now because it is more socially accepted and most cannot get a good Thai man these days so we're the next best thing.

None of those numbers work when you need them to. Many Thai business numbers don't even work, just as many government offices don't answer their phones. It's pathetic. Don't know why they even have them.
You know about the Asian concept of "Face?" The signs look good for the city but in practice, nobody could care less. Reminds me of the 100 day mourning for an old monk. There was big talk by officials of bars closing, etc. How long did that last? 2 minutes?
