  1. I've lived everywhere in and surrounding Pattaya and now I'm happiest in Naklua.

I like the food courts of Big C and Central but I don't enjoy living there as you're always pegged as a tourist from tailors, bar girls, baht buses, ladies selling wooden frogs, men selling lazer pointers, etc.

Jomtien has a wider beach road but the closest food courts are on Sukhumvit. When I lived there, I found myself always traveling over the hill to get into the city.

Naklua works for me because my goal was always to assimilate and now I truly have. I live in a 100% Thai apartment. Prices are Thai and the respect I receive is somewhat like that of a native. I also speak fluent Thai (I would expect Thai people to speak English in my country) so joking around with the gentle locals is a pleasure. It seems once they get to soi 6 to the end of Jomtien, they're often pretty ruthless. Out here, it's mellow.

The closest shopping center is Tesco Lotus on North Pattaya road which has a food court. There is even a little park near the fish market which has grass to sit on and is used by families of all ages every night for exercise, dance, sitting on the grass, etc.

This is the real Thailand right here in crazy Pattaya. There's also Banglamung hospital. Want to avoid the long waits? Go at 4am. There are doctors just waiting for emergency cases but when there's nothing, they've got you.

  2. As in music?

There was a recent birthday party for a man named Paul at The Lounge bar (now closed). He hired a brass band. You can check the recent archives of Pattaya People Media Group to find the footage. Paul's full name is revealed (he's also their voice over guy) and you can contact him directly on Facebook.

  3. The foreigners can open a resident Thai Baht account or a Non-Resident Foreign Currency account to receive the money transfers from overseas without having a work-permit at the Bangkok Bank anywhere in Thailand. I mainly go to the bank branches where they are more familiar to the foreigners.

You need to bring along your passport with validity visa-stamp entry Thailand + the another official documents from your country such as your ID Card or Driving License.

You need to be able to provide the bank with your address in Thailand. It can be your rental property or your friend address in Thailand. The bank do not accept the hotel addresses or P.O.Box.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

That's exactly what my dad did and brought along these documents this morning at the main Bangkok Bank branch on Silom Road. He had with him 1) passport with 30-day entry stamp and 2) driver's license from home country and 3) Thai address

Nothing else was required even though we expected the possibility of requiring a confirmation of address in the form of a statutory declaration from the Australian Embassy, like they require for buying/selling vehicles, or driver licence applications/renewals, but this was not asked for. Even if it were, the Australian Embassy is just over a km away.

Apparently the clerk told my dad that all Bangkok Bank branches operate in the same way with the same documentary requiremnets, but I specifically told him to go to the main branch as I remember opening my account there a few years ago with just a passport and I didn't want him to be given the run around in case smaller branches (particularly the ones inside shopping malls) suddenly want all sorts of documents. My account has since been upgraded with internet banking access due to working here, but is otherwise the same as his account.

I just opened a Bkk bank account on 2nd road/soi 6 last Monday. Today, Monday, my new ATM card was ready and I was able to get internet banking and a verified by visa shopping card. I needed passport, residence certificate, 500 baht to open the account + 300 baht baht for the ATM card.

Firstly, we would like to inform you that we have no policies which force customers to purchase any insurance with opening accounts. Secondly, there will be a required minimum deposit of account opening is 500 THB for Saving Account and 10,000 THB for Current Deposit Account.

So this is what they're trying to do , maybe not scamming but they want customers to open a fixed deposit account instead of a savings sccount. That's why they ask for min. 10000 baht deposit.

Next time , ask them to open a savings account for you and show them the official kasikorn website that shows min. deposit is 500. I would not leave the branch until they accepted it , if they refuse, call kasikorn customer serice on your phone while you're there. They speak excellent english , explain the problem to them and hand the phone over to the staff. Then you will have no more problems.

Or just go to Bangkok Bank as I did and open the account for 500 baht.

Much luck, when reporting all Pattaya branches and their staff...

    Welcome to "Corruption City".

I do agree with the "much luck" comment although I once reported the cashier at Sizzler Royal Garden and I received an over the top compensation all for firing off a brief email describing how I enjoyed my meal but the cashier was a little rude (which didn't take away from the quality of the meal or dining room service).

Account opened with Bkk bank at 2nd road/soi 6. They asked for passport, residence certificate, 500 baht to open the account + 300 baht for the ATM card. *

2 female staff at desks 7 and 8 made a few comments that were impolite. Unexpected for 2 educated and trained employees.

*Must wait 2 weeks for online banking to be activated.

I did not have to produce a residence certificate. They probably just used that to get your local address which you do need. They didn't do any checks on that address and they will never send anything there if you don't want them to as far as I know. I have it set up for everything to get sent to the bank if there ever is anything.

The employees told me it's a new rule as of 3 months ago (June 2014). 300 baht = 1 residence certificate but one may open multiple accounts on the same certificate I was told today at the bank. The feature I like about online banking is that I get the web shopping card which is needed to validate a PayPal account.

  7. I have an extra free ticket for tonight's muay Thai gala at Boxing World on Sukhumvit opp. Bkk Pattaya hospital at Mini Siam at 8:30pm. Regular price is 1500 baht but you get in free. Anyone who contacts me by private message before 8pm gets it.

Please leave a phone number. I will wait for you inside the mcdonald's restaurant in front of the boxing stadium. Thank you.

  8. There's a simple reason, why these issues only affect the K-Bank!

Maybe one of the guys, who need/want a K-Bank account and ONLY a K-Bank account without any alternative, might "bring light into the darkness"

I use Kasikorn's online banking so I prefer having all my accounts with 1 bank. On Monday, I will try Bangkok bank on 2nd road/soi 6. Failing that, I'll open with Kasikorn by depositing 10,000 baht.

  9. A friend who is well connected to the Pattaya City Expats Club has confirmed that the branch manager of Bangkok Bank 2nd road at soi 6 has given speeches at the club and reports are that any foreigner can open an account there with only their passport, proof of address (not residence cert.), email and phone number, possibly a small deposit (typical) that could be immediately withdrawn, and a fee for the card. There is no history or reports of 10,000THB for insurance payments.

I will be there Monday morning.

  10. Yes it seems to be all about the staff getting commisions from offering different packages , avoid kasikorn branch central beach . They try to trick foreigners into buying something you don't need. Try Jomtien or the branch inside garden plaza.

Saturday, August 30, 2014: Kasikorn in Royal Garden Plaza wants a residence certificate + 10,000THB. Employee confirmed I may withdraw the deposit immediately.

  11. I went to open an account at the local Kbank...showed them my passport and they said need work permit, i told them a work permit is not possible on this visa, As a last try i showed them my thai DL...she said oh thats ok,

20 minutes later i walked out with a book and atm/debit card.

Which branch please? Has anyone had a foreigner friendly experience at ANY bank anywhere in Pattaya?

  12. I have never been asked about it ,but maybe they have changed the rules now. When I opened up my last account there a year ago all I had was a tourist visa and I gave them my address.

    Friday, August 29, 2014

Went to 2 Kasikorn branches today looking at which is foreigner friendly.

-Central Festival Beach: wants 10,000THB to open + card fee but I can withdraw the money immediately. Documents: Passport only.

-Naklua road near soi 18: wants 40,000THB or work permit to open + card fee but I can withdraw the money immediately. Documents: Passport only.

People: what's the latest: where can I open an account at ANY bank anywhere in Pattaya with just my passport and less than 2000 baht? Thank you very much.

  13. Yet another thread waiting for a follow up by the thread starter.

Not so useful to discuss without knowing details of the treatment.

Other posters' fresh input is useful too but I don't think we need 2 concurrent local hospital threads. Can we merge and live happily together?

    I'll get me coat....

  14. "Fun" fact: If Thai mom takes the half Thai child, they both pay Thai prices. If foreigner (whitey) takes the half Thai child, the child is charged as a foreigner.*

*Based on some reports. Your mileage may vary based on racial inclination and amount of somtam ingested by cashier. Welcome to the land of Smiles....wai2.gif
