If that's racist than I suggest you spend a few hours time locked up in a steel tube at 35k ft with 300 Indians (or just a normal non-ventilated aircon resto in, say, Bangalore or anywhere else in the country). I "did time" there before retiring. S-hole. Worst 2 yrs of my life in terms of overall quality of life (having maids/drivers etc doesn't mean a thing when you're in hell) but the package my company offered was simply too good to turn down.
Not even joking, my 2yr stint in Lagos/Nigeria was like Switzerland in comparison, and Nigeria is one of the worst places on earth to be an expat.
Better to be a racist than a truth-denying snowflake. Not sure what that has to do with self esteem as I'm obviously superior.????
I lived in India in the past as well and I also have my thoughts about the country, culture and people.
What I don't do is looking down on Indians by mocking them in a public forum. That would indeed make me a racist.

As long as they finally start wearing deodorant and don't smell like a woodpile of anal glands I don't really care. Hell, I totally approve of their cheapness. Anyone who minimizes the greedy bar owners' profits is ok in my book.
Rather racist comment, you must have a very low self esteem.

One of the nicest towns in Thailand with beautiful promenade and Ao Manau around the corner. Very quiet at night, but quaint town with small expat community. I always felt Prachuap is totally underestimated.

Well, I may be a big dummy. But, it can't be argued that those nations are amongst the top ten in the world in birth rates. And I call that an issue. For everyone, not just them.
That is indeed a big problem, you are correct.

It is nations like Niger, Mali, Angola, Benin, Uganda, Chad, Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, Liberia, Cameroon and Afghanistan that are of a far greater concern. Some of the poorest nations on earth, that can least afford exploding populations. One could argue their populations are both undisciplined and misled. There is another aspect to this, that is better left unsaid.
Only people of minor intellect would make such generalizations about the population of entire countries.

Getting babies is for most people the best thing that happens in their lives.

Birthrate has been declining here long before Covid.
It is the economy that makes people decide against making a lot of babies.
Correct. Debt levels, health care and cost of education are the main worries for young couples to not get kids.

If it was, you wouldn't be here. If you want to live 3rd world, go to Africa and experience the real thing, then come back and assess Thailand.
A low birthrate is actually a sign that Thailand is approaching developed nation status. Compare Thailand with the Philippines. The median age there is 24, nearly half of Thailand, and in the 1970's their populations and birthrates were similar. Now the Philippines has nearly 50 million more people than Thailand with over 117 million currently.
Using GDP per capita as a factor of its world status, would place Thailand around 70th in the world (PPP not nominal). Hardly a developed economy. Now also throw the income distribution as variable in the mix and you could easily come to the conclusion that Thailand is 1st world for the happy few and 3rd world for the majority.
The reason why people have many or few children is correlated with one's household economy. No money, lots of children, lots of money, few children. Thailand is an odd one out here. Thailand's population is poor by definition, but its birthrate is on par with the modern richer countries. Total recipe for disaster in the present political set up. Who will support the older and progressively top of the population pyramid?

That's about 14% of their population, babies and aged people included. That's quite a number.

You're right, sorry I misread the wiki reference to the election results. I live in Hua Hin but travel around a bit, just back from 3 weeks in Isaan - PT stronghold but many in the very large family are now favouring MF. I hope they are good opposition and will be able to form government next time. This new government will be interesting.
My Thai family is quite on edge since May 14, like they are losing hope. Shame to see this happening to them.

If you know Thais in business, all of them would have done the same or similar, given the chance.

Thaksin has been neither charged, tried nor convicted.
Cynical as I am as to the actual "crimes" of which he was convicted, and of the independence of the courts which convicted him, this "crime" exists only in the more fevered imaginations of his detractors on these forums.
His corrupt dealings that led to unusual wealth were well documented at the time. My favorite was the soft loan to Myanmar so they could buy his products. How about changing the Foreign Ownership laws to sell his telecom assets? His wife's crooked land deals? Just to name some of his shenanigans.

They would given Phuket is a Palang Pracharath stronghold and have always loathed PT. PPRT got decimated in the election and their only seat is now in Phuket. Maybe you ought to get out more.
Yes, I will try to go out more. Seems you dont know that MF won big time in Phuket and mot the military parties. Maybe you ought to venture away from Patong's bar scene and explore the real Phuket

PT are not exactly, "army thieves and goons" and are well respected by the lower echelons even though they've lost a lot of credibility with their new "partners". Many of my Isaan family now lean towards MFP as a consequence. "Army enemy of the people" aw c'mon. Maybe you're confused with our neighbours.
But you do like to exaggerate and will doubtless get the real goon support.Don't know who you are talking to, but around here (Phuket) people are livid and do find the PT an army of thieves and goons.

I get your intent and emotions, but inflation levels are not sky high, government debt is within pre set limits, personal debt levels are no higher than they usually are and global economic events are not only not frightening, they actually look better than they have for some time.
Have a G and T and relax a bit
Dont know where you go shopping or fill your car, but where I stay inflation levels are sky high. Thailands household debt levels are at record highs, and with a looming Chinese real estate implosion, the global economic forcast doesnt bode well at all.
I wish I could be as relaxed as you come across.

I prefer an unlicensed teacher for my kids than someone as rude as the above, which is clearly an indication of a low EQ.
